Who has been flying in an airplane or any other flying vehicle? I've only been in one round-trip, and it wasn't really fancy at all. They only had salty peanuts and Diet Coke. And hat was back in 2007.

I'm just curious, did anyone ever made a sprite list for SMB3?
Thanks for that info meng...

http://www.spriters-resource.com/nes/supermariobros3/mariobros.gif - Mario/Luigi

http://www.smbhq.com/users/sprite/smb3enem.gif - all enemies except for Bowser.

Anybody used the Goomba's Shoe in their hack yet?

Mineyl, How is your "Mario in the Curious Kingdom" and Mario Dreamscape going?

Looks like everyone here either forgot or didn't care...

I'll probably change my font size from what I had set it to all those months ago.

Oh. The little hack won't get to see the rest of the world?

I guess that's just spending a lot of time doing barely anything as far as ROM hacking goes for you. I can tell you that it won't be released for a while, if at all. I'm not saying that I'm against it or anything like that; it's just that the way things have been looking gives Reuben a very far outlook right now. What is it exactly that is going on in your SMB3 hack? World 1 crashing? Levels not loading? Backgrounds have issues? Some of those sprite oddities you've spoken of have been discussed before ever since SMB3 has been known to man, but I spoke of a few here. What does your End Castle look like? Take a glance at it because it may be why you can't start your Airship level there.

Well, as far as learning ASM goes... I guess the more about hex you understand, the more times you could attempt to read a single ASM document, like this one. I'm not good at it myself. I don't know...

EDIT:I know it's old, KP9000, but that TSA issue is probably just a mix-up. That object in the upper-right corner is used in Hilly levels to place some kind of background to make some sprites appear properly and to make Mario look right when he enters quicksand. Remove it and see what happens, if you wish.

Three or four days ago, Google implemented something where you got random suggestions in the search box as you typed. It hardly brought up anything I was looking for.

Yeah...I wish Reuben could see the light of day, but alas.

I was referring to Mario in the Curious Kingdom as well...

Yeah. Place the Hammer Brother in the middle of three objects that he could land on. If he's in the very bottom half of the level, then there'd be no way he could fall through the floor. A similar kind of glitch related to the Boomerang Brother issue exists in 4-3; in a few instances, you could bump a nearby brick and kill a spiny. Nothing's really wrong if a Boomerang Brother delays his throws; it could actually add a trivial challenge to the level. If you really want to stop it, try removing some coins. As for Mario's position after he exits the pipe, simply change the exit pipe to an upside-down pipe, and change the entrance pipe if you wish. Again, it doesn't really matter at all. In fact, individual videos and interest may spawn showcasing that glitch in your wonderful SMB3 hack. Take your pick?

EDIT: Silly me, if I'd bothered to scroll a few posts down from the original message, I'd see that you already responded to this list of mine back then.
At least you didn't do that purposely (I hope) like someone else here did!

One of the big differences between puzzle design in SMW and SMB3 is that SMW has a lot of extraneous gimmicks that can be used, whereas SMB3 has a lot of different power-ups. In SMW, it would generally be nothing to include a reset pipe (as well as an ASM hack to make Mario small at the start of every level), but in SMB3, these things aren't possible because a reset pipe or door could potentially screw up your puzzle by allowing the player to re-obtain an item box he used up earlier (if you'll recall my video, the ultimate solution to the puzzle was to make your way to a pipe in order TO reset the power-up block containing a super leaf).

Needless to say, I also lack the necessary assembly skills to make Mario small at the start...
I don't know. Maybe a gimmick where Mario would have to go through two Thwomps? Then he'd be normal. Eh...

Posted by Mineyl
By the way, has there been any discussion about the usage of certain features of SMB3 that allow the player to reach more levels than just the one pointed at in the level header? A good example of this is in 1-5, where the invisible note block takes Mario to coin heaven, but the pipe at the end of the stage takes him to the end of the world level instead. It sounds like it'd be really handy to abuse this feature, since I only used the header and pointers for my hack before (I'd really like to flesh out my hack as much as possible, and I'll probably go back and make all of my old levels longer 'cause I believe short stages are one of vanilla SMB3's only true flaws).

http://acmlm.no-ip.org/board/thread.php?pid=133172#133172

Read on from there.

All levels allow you to go to at least two levels: the level designated in the header and the pipe that was claimed to ignore pointers. Level types like Underground, Giant, and Cloud levels contain a pipe that says "[Upward or Rightward] Pipe to End of level" that takes you to a level specified, as explained in those posts. So some levels could have 3 different destinations.

Hey, I remember you logging in and viewing the thread when this stuff was posted. What's going on? It's a good idea to read all the new things that get posted in this thread. Maybe you could try to remember the number of replies and find out which ones were new?

I suggest that you ask one of the major ASM guys out there and they'll help you understand ASM better. I Hope continuing your SMB3 hack goes well for you! Anything you're interested about, post it!

I believe it's good to have a page welcoming the new users once they've registered. It would give them an idea of what goes on here, where they could chip in, and the few things that they shouldn't do. I think it could reduce the number of "stop 'n' go" users that register. The page could appear right after they register, and some links at the bottom for specified sections, and a link for editing their profile. It should give them a good feeling when registering instead of dropping them inside. Agree?

I've hit the ground rolling with this SMB3 hack again. Below are some screenshots I had ready for 7-6, a neat pipe level submerged at first. Why does the fish splash underwater? That's for you to find out later.

Bad video of the RPG engine thing I've been working on.

I need to find something better than gtk-recordmydesktop and istanbul...

Not bad. That looks quite interesting!

Well, obviously, if it's great, then it wouldn't be bad...

It really has been quite a while since I picked up on some ROM Hacking, but since we were out of school all last week because of a really large amount of snow, I was able to use that time to work on Mario's Trials (we are expecting another bit on Monday). There were strange things going on in the ROM after I implemented some data found in the SMB3 thread, so I pasted all levels, graphics, and some map data into a fresh, new ROM. So far, I have done most (if not all) of the levels in the first four Areas and the 7th Area. The screenshots below describe a fortress that will be presented in Area 6:

EDIT2: Not blurry, but the last image was a duplicate. Replaced...

I still want to continue hacking SMB3 some more, but with all the other SMB3 hackers disappearing it's sort of a slow process getting back into the swing of things.

I just wanted to express my appreciation of all the hospitality!
Well, you have to realize that you did have to do with some of it. Why aren't you giving me the same hospitality?

Hi everyone, I'm Steamboat418. I just stepped into the World of ROM hacking (got this phrase from someone below) some weeks back, so I was directed here by z-byte. I trusted him, and 96 seconds ago, I registered. It looks like I'm at the right place so far!
You said that stuff in parentheses to make sure I wouldn't get you about it! You stumbled upon the right place! Like I said to you elsewhere, post to your fill! On a completely different note... do you have the starting date for that ACTE thing?

You mean the original GFX, yes, but the palettes will change when I reach World 3 of my two SMB3 ROMs.

These two hacks look like amazing first levels so far! One thing I will point out though; in Luigi's first map, the North-South road above the START space can be moved on, and Luigi can look garbled if he goes across a road in that direction on that edge of the screen. I advise you to use the fake horizontal road, called "E.W. Road C" in the SMB3 Map Editor. There's no fake vertical road. Also, when using screenshots, I'd advise you to have some pictures side-by-side instead of all vertical. Use the Enter button to separate pictures every two or three pictures.

Keep up the great work on these two hacks man!

I quickly made a website to cover the basics of SMB3 hacking. Please don't laugh! For some reason, all files that I try to upload are "too big" (this has been happening since the host made changes some weeks ago), so I can't make any changes.

Thanks for the positive feedback, GreyMario, Googie, and sspp03! You like Boo's palette? These enemy palette editions were experimental at first; I know that a Boo has a white color along with a bold color's line, so that's probably going to change, sspp03. The light blue will at least be darkened, if not changed to another color completely.

Actually, we were delayed from school for 2½ hours, so I did get to make some changes... I will be making some changes and additions.

Sounds like a plan! Are you still thinking about some rearrangements? Also, did you take in mind the information in my last post? Just making sure.
