/walloftext

It started with an obscure, japanese freeware shmup called Fraxy, created by a man known to us only as MON. Fraxy is a sandbox shmup. An arena shooter where almost every aspect of the game can be customized. The main draw is the Boss editor. This extremely flexible program lets you create almost any boss you want, using various plates, weapons, cores and joints. Over time, Fraxy is constantly upgraded with new versions which have included more plates and tips, more exact turning joints, cores, weapons, and the like. Also added is an event system which just further increases the flexibility and possibilities.

Many people were able to find this game due to some it's noteriety (such as being called best Freeware Game of 2007 by a forum whose name escapes me) and they began making videos showcasing their bosses and custom graphics. These people finding eachother by chance of related youtube videos sparked the beginnings of the community. One user, JPteeto, decided to begin a 100 meg pbwiki, which he called the Fraxy Compendium. He rounded up all the youtube users to contribute and advertise. He never thought it would go over the 100 meg limit.... The videos made the game insanely popular, garnering a large number of new members fairly quickly.

At the Compendium, bosses and images were shared, ideas exchanged, wishlists compiled, etc. Eventually I stumbled upon the game, and before downloading it, I researched it a bit. I found the Compendium. I swiftly joined and began contributing, though it took a while for me to start making videos of my own. I watched it grow from it's`early stages to the point where we began a Theme of the Month, made a User Index, upgraded to the 1 gig pbwiki, and the like. Then, for whatever reason, JPteeto left. No notices or anything, just vanished. We were left to our own devices, like a god had created a world of sentient beings, helped it get started, and backed off, leaving only fond memories.

A few members rose up to help lead. Nightkev, myself, and another user named Screature who may or may not join here, were the most prominent. We ran the Theme of the Month for about 2 months, started an official wishlist, watched the community slowly expand further, and helped out people new to the wiki and Fraxy in general. Then there was a nagging problem: we had no admin to ban or help in case we were attacked. Nightkev then conversed with his friend, Arbe (who I'm sure you all know in one way or another), and we moved from an unprotected pbwiki and a freewebs forum to a more active forum with a nice community and a more customizeable wiki.

Around the same time, some of the more youtube-centric users created another pbwiki, an "Expansion Pack" so they wouldn't have to deal with upload times of the Compendium. This, spearheaded by Gemstonehelix, split the community nearly in two. The expansion is still used and is home to some of the youtube-fraxyers and more story based role-playing through fraxy.

Me and Screature, who had become one of my good buddies, became mods and helped protect the new wiki, were still judges in the TotM (theme of the month), and became very active in the community. Slowly but surely, the users all migrated to the new wiki. We were happy to have power, and a still growing community, and a larger community around us. Though the TotM ran a bit more sluggishly, everything progressed, and all was fine.... for about 3 months.

We arrive at now, where Arbe is relinquishing GenericBoard, the wiki may or may not be preserved, and the unknowing Fraxyers, who just wish for a stable base of operations, so to speak, are forced to move to a large, more alien community. Not many know about it yet, but I'll do my best to bring fraxyers here and keep the community going.

It makes me sad to see the Compendium grow, split, move, and then move/split once more. It feels like the community has changed from a large continent to smaller islands, scattered about.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for bearing with my, admittedly cheesy, metaphors and near overbearing serious tone. I hope to make this a stable home for the Fraxy Community and a happy one for all involved. I hope I enjoy my stay, and you all don't mind the move of (possibly) a bunch of users ^.^

thanks much, I would hate to see the community die out because we can't stay in one place. Watch us end up at the original compendium again somehow in the future xD

hehe thanks, I thought I wrote it pretty well. It really fit the melancholy mood I was in haha

Screature said he'll probably join eventually, but not right away, which is nice.

note: I'm not always this serious haha

I did some gym recolors a while back when GB was around and we were gonna make a Pokemon Leaf Green hack. Now that that's gone, I figure I should put up the gyms here, in case someone wants to use them.

... I also LOVE feedback hehehe....

So, here they are:

Fire Gym:
My first ever sprite recolor. Turned out damn good if I do say so myself haha.

Grass Gym:
One of my favorites. The grass and vines on the sides were added to touch it up a bit hehe.

Ground Gym:
A little boring, but serves it's purpose as a ground gym. One of the more difficult ones to do, actually.

Normal Gym:
A normal gym. Pretty boring, but again, serves it's purpose.

Psychic Gym:
Another of my favorites. Recolored the roof, added the sign, and removed part of the building to make it smaller.

Electric/Thunder Gym:
My favorite. A pretty difficult job, but turned out very smooth.

Fighting Gym:
My least favorite. The boxing glove looks kinda crappy and so do the signs, but meh.

Water Gym:
My second ever recolor. Shortly after recoloring this from green, I found a blue version on the spritesheet I was taking the buildings from haha.
[EDIT] It's supposed to be an entrance to an underground gym. I didn't notice it was a tent when I did it haha...

There they are. Tell me what you think, and feel free to use any of them yourself, just give me some credit ;D haha

Tytyedit: post edited so images are loaded

Yeah, I guess I meant custom recolors or something along those lines hehe.

Fighting gym sucks, I get that, and some are pretty generic, I must agree, but I like them overall, personally.

I made the boxing glove myself using another, too large sprite as a reference, so you can see my actual "custom spriting"skills are lacking, and I'm much better at recolors.

For the water gym, I didn't notice it was a tent when I did it, I though it was a cave entrance and the gym was underground, which is what I was going for.

The hack was going to be mostly custom, and I wanted to try something new, so I threw my name out for spriting and was given buildings. Since my fully custom sprites SUCK ASS (the fighting gym gives testament to that), I decided to recolor. Change some buildings that weren't gyms into gyms and change the purpose of some others. Though not truly "custom", I feel they would fit very well in a hack/mod/whatever. And though somewhat generic (normal gym especially is generic haha), I feel as though they would be at home in a hack, as I said.

I probably resaid a lot of stuff in that post, but I'm exhausted as hell so I don't really care haha

Well, when I do fraxy, most of the time I work on bosses. I have a little series going, and it's close to the end, I'm on the third to last boss. All finished, there will be 10 bosses total, all having traits that make them different and unique and, hopefully, fun.

Name------------------____Status:
PAI01: Crystal Drive-----Complete
PAI02: Pangea-----------Complete
PAI03: Shadow Reaper-Complete
PAI04: Anzu---------------Complete
PAI05: Khons-------------Complete
PAI06: Atea---------------Complete
PAI07: Cerberus---------Complete
PAI08: Aiur----------------Complete
PAI09: Novim-------------Complete
PAI10: N/A------------Work in Progress

Get them here: http://fraxy.kafuka.org/wiki/Userukkarooo/Bosses

And feel free to leave feedback and reviews!

Let's see..... It would be between two things:

Be like Dr. Manhattan from "Watchmen";
He basically existed through all time instantaneously. He would know what would happen, what has happened, and what is happening all at the same time. It would be really awesome, though I'd want to be able to change it on or off to keep my sanity haha.

Mental Powers;
This basically includes telepathy and telekenesis. Both were taken, so I decided to lump them together haha. I'd love to be able have telekenesis, as it is probably the most versatile power possible, and telepathy so I can see what people think, how they feel, their memories and such without having to ask them things. Telepathy would, of course, be reading minds at will to keep my sanity haha.

Uh, me? Considering I've been pretty much head of the Fraxy community for a while now.

and have basically caused us to move twice, losing many members.... whatever

regardless, me and Screature were mods of the wiki when it was at GB, and I think our accounts still have the powers unless those got reset. Though Screech isn't too active with fraxy much anymore, I can still, and am still willing, to help out.

[EDIT] ok, it got cloned.... ok, didn't notice that haha

[EDIT2] looks like I can still block and IP ban on the new one, so I'll keep a look out for vandalism and attacks and such

Marzen: no
xD

But seriously, I don't really know who is still here and active after the moves too well, or I'd be giving more reccomendations.

Remember me?

I'm also waiting patiently for the next PAI in the series.

Of course I remember you! You were going to review the PAIs, messed it up, then never got around to fixing it!

hahaha just kidding around

Again, I'm glad you're waiting patiently, it may be a while. Hopefully I can sort out the problems soon..... I hate my semi-innovative ideas requiring so many events! xD

well, technically the egg didn't HAVE to come first for evolution....

This is one of those things that people put a lot of thought in, but then realize they'll probably never learn the answer haha.

I say chicken, and I endorse evolution

I have been around here since the night GenericBoard went down. I was part of the fraxy community, and I'm glad there is still some semblance of a community hahaha

Anyway, thanks for welcoming us all so warmly, and I can say we will all probably contribute not only to the Fraxy section, but the whole forum.... or at least I hope we do haha

Hello,
I've seen some great bosses out there, one was
somebody's PAI02-Pangea

hehe fixed

I'm glad you liked that one! Your bosses aren't too shabby themselves haha.

If you thought Pangea was good, you should check the later ones in the series (06 Atea and 07 Cerberus especially haha)

Anyway, if you ever want help, just send me a PM and I'll be glad to.

I'd like to see you try and say something bad about XKCD. Other than some out-there humor and references and the simple art, it's great.

And don't base your opinion off really old comics, like you did with Least I Could Do. Read some of them, for sure, but base your observations off the newer stuff.

Sweet. I knew of the "Core Fade Effect", where the core's center shrinks as you damage it and it gets hurt more the smaller it is. I was unaware that it was a whole energy system that could be kept strong with the part regens. Very good to know! Thanks for building upon that concept!

Need a hand with any events? ;-)

Gone indefinately I hear you say in another post?
Neverrrrrr!!! But my ps3 and a lot of problems in life have been keeping me away.
Bucky, spoke to you a couple times on msn recently, no replies :-(
I got about 30 new bosses, some just time wasters, some are proud original gems.
I'll send you a zip. And I'm also patiently waiting for the next PAI. I'm itching to get back into things and start with a shining review!

hehe, it's tough. These events seem like they should work, but they don't work how I want them to. I may have a solution for this soon, hopefully. If all else fails, I may be able to simplify it all by making the boss stationary, which may in fact suit it better....

Posted by Screature
On a side note, I WILL disappear altogether if this community moves again. That's another reason I went. A community is a community, not sheep. I refuse to be herded as such.

I whole-heartedly agree. I'm kinda tired of moving around, and we lose so many members with each move. I hope we finally found a stable "home" hehe

I can't say I can quite compare to you guys. As I am only 15, I've only ever played an NES once, and that was Duck Hunt when I was 5-ish. I looked up a list of rare games, and I say I have several games that qualify:

[PSX] Legend of Dragoon (not sure if that's rare, but other than my copy, I've never really heard of it too much or ever seen it in a store)

[PSX] Final Fantasy VII (saw on a list that it's rare, not so sure, though)

[PSX] Metal Gear Solid (again, not so sure how rare it is. Saw it on a list. and it's not original, came in a bundle with MGS2 and 3. Only seen the pack once, though, and that's the one I got)

[PSX] Mega Man X5 with box and manual (not sure if it's too rare hehe)

[PSX] Croc with box (? I hope it's rare, I love this game, it was one of my first haha)

[PS2] Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner good condition box and manual

[PS2] MGS3: Subsistence with both disks, manual, and Strategy Guide

[GCN] Legend of Zelda OoT and Master Quest with box and manual(not in AMAZING condition, but I have it ^.^)

[GCN] Legend of Zelda: Windwaker with manual, good condition box and strategy guide(not sure if it's rare, but damnit all if I don't love this game!)

Feel free to correct me on the errors that I probably made haha
