#195 is here!

Comment: Steel Armor + Water = Bad.

Onto Magin! Next time!

And here we have a piece of art entitled "Teh Stupid is Spreading". XD

Kirby + Brain = Doom for anyone who pops into that pea-sized brain of his.

Magin? Where's that?

I put the location of my house on it. Look near Rome, GA for "Mulberry Road NW". You'll find my marker there. At least, I THINK that's the location of my house... It might be a bit more north that I put... Oh well.

Who is Jugem? I don't think I seen a bio for him earlier, or I might've over looked it.

Jugem is Lakitu's Japanese name, hence the SMB3 item "Jugem's Cloud". In America, it's called "Lakitu's Cloud" instead. .....I think. Anyways, Jugem = Lakitu.

Post new pics.
FOR GREAT JUSTICE!

Well, all they are are.... Updated looks for old worlds, plus a look into another one..

World 2 again. I added those SMB3 glaciers/icebergs into it, and I think the perspective on them is nice. Over to the left (where I could get to), I have more of them, plus the right sides to two little "trees". You know, the Forest of Illusions ones? The small ones? Yeah, they look frozen.

World 3 again! Yes, this WILL be World 3. (Wait 'til you see my idea for World 4... ) Anyways, I added some Pyramids, Palm Trees, and some custom sand dunes to the overworld. Looks nice, huh? ...Be careful what you wish for...

...You asked for more detail, and I gave it to you. Unfortunately... I GAVE TOO MUCH, I THINK! XD But yeah, look at what I did to the poor, lonely desert. Oh, by the way... Those are all on Layer 1. I did that because the Palm Trees require Palette 4, while the Desert uses Palette 6. So, I figured it'd be best to put them on Layer 1! And I take advantage of this...

...for World 5! A little preview of coming attractions. This is a jungle with a river flowing through it. The rest of the jungle will be on the Forest of Illusion Submap, and there will only be about 2 or 3 levels here on the main Overworld. Yes, all it is is trees right now. And maybe, just maybe, I'll make a few tiles for overlapping parts of trees so I can make the jungle look even better.

So, there you have it. World 1- Silver Pipeline. World 2- Peppermint Fields/Frost Ridge. World 3- Pendulum Desert. World 5- Jungle. Not sure about the name for World 5, though. Maybe Monkey Jungle? Please put forth your ideas and opinions on the name of that world. Thank you.

Oh yeah, as for World 4.... Well, maybe I can divulge my plans. I call it....

Atlantis.

Yes, Atlantis. Deep beneath the sea, you explore the lost city of Atlantis. You start outside the city, and must make your way through a few underwater tunnels, the waters right outside the city, then infiltrate the castle, and beat the boss within. Sounds complicated? Heh, you don't know the half of it.

Oh yes, by the way, I once had a mandatory Switch Palace to get to Dark Castle. A little while ago, I felt that doing so isn't a wise move at all, so I made it so the Switch Palace is optional. But trust me, you'll need to do a bit of exploration before you can reach that Switch Palace.... And here's another spot to voice your opinion. I had an idea one day to make the player have to beat a certain boss to clear a certain Switch Palace, and activating this switch would allow you access to the Secret Exits in levels that lead you to Star Roads to Rainbow Road. Is that a good idea I should follow or not? Oh, and FYI.... All Switch Palaces WILL have bosses. What, you think I'm just gonna GIVE you the Switches like Nintendo did in the original game? >:-P So yeah, expect the Switch Palaces to be out-of-the-ordinary. You're not getting the Switches without a fight, and I'm gonna make sure you can't get them easily, either... So, with that out of the way, enjoy the screens. Oh, but just so you know... My time with this hack each day may get cut short starting tomorrow. I won't tell why, but... All you need to know is that I may not be working on this much each day. ...Pfft, like I really do much in it each day anyways. XD

What of the odd predicament in Top Secret Area? I've noticed before that if you make Yoshi stick his tongue out at just the right spot (it's right below the block containing a Yoshi Egg), you'll hear that familiar "punch" noise, as if Yoshi's trying to eat something that isn't there, but he can't even grab it. What's up with that?

I thought the SEE sprite was all the way near the top of the screen, though.

No, Smallhacker's right- The Sprite is right there where Mario enters the level from. That explains it all. Maybe that's why Nintendo put the thing at the top of all other levels they used it on?

Edit: Though, that doesn't explain why they put it there in the first place, and ONLY in that one single level... No other level has the sprite in a location Yoshi could get to...

I've been wondering, is there an editor to certain parts of SMAS? I've seen hacks of it before, and for some odd reason, one of them is basically the SMB3 hack Super Mario Bros. 3 Expert, but in SMB3-SMAS GFX. There's also this Pokemon-themed one, too... Never saw it in a list of hacks for the NES game... And trust me, it's NOT a simple GFX hack- The overworld's been changed around. So, if there is no SMAS editor, how in the world would you edit the levels and overworld for one of SMAS's games?

I think you should fix it and make a release, BUT ONLY IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON RELEASING ANY MORE DEMOS.

Oh yes, I still hold true to my previous offer, icegoom. Think about it, will ya?

I wonder, is there ever a chance of having a SMW Bowser sprite in custom sprite form? It'd be nice to have multiple Bowser fights in a hack and have them all be different somehow...

But I'm sure that's nearly impossible to make. As for a more realistic idea....

How about a sprite that ends the level when all 5 Yoshi coins are collected in a level? Or how about a block that adds a Yoshi Coin to Mario's total when hit? A sprite that creates a door/any Map16 block when you have 5 Yoshi Coins?

Okay, I'm going to ask this.... Is there a way one can disable the Yoshi Coins' effect of giving Mario a 1-Up when he gets 5+ of them? I plan on using them in a few levels in my hack as mandatory items to collect to beat the level, and I don't want to give out free lives, like Nintendo loves to do all the time.

so you're saving daylight based on a normal person's schedule.

I hate daylight.

I hate the outdoors. ....Well, not EXACTLY. I like the outdoors, but only when I want to experience it. Heck, I'd rather stay in a dark room all day playing games than go outside and play. It's true!

Lol, Xkeeper. I hate watching news, too. I find that it is generally boring, stupid, and just doesn't interest or concern me. I only read it if my mom tells me to, or if I happen to see something that catches my interest. Other than that, I only read the newspaper for the comics. (And for some reason, I can't get enough of the Dear Abby stuff. XD)

I never saw the point in DST. It's just an insignificant date on the calendar made to annoy the heck outta us, to me.

Ha ha! You confused the crap out of me changing your name. "When did a 'Phoenix Yoshi' offer me anything?" A look at your profile solved that mystery.

If you want to look at my levels and fix them so that they're DS accurate, then please, do so. 1-5 and 1-A in particular need work. As far as continuing with new levels past world 1, hmm... Maybe. That's a lot of new graphics work, but it could be fun. I rather like the color reducing process. (Background work I'm not so fond of, so maybe rips would be a viable option)

Oh, and this wasn't so much a "demo" as "I'm not doing this anymore. Somebody else do something with it."

I was afraid that would happen. XD But here's the ironic thing- You have the GFX skills, but not the game. I have the game, but not the GFX skills. I think that maybe we should partner up on this or something. I mean, pointless to work on it if I can't exactly make the GFX well. (But then there would still be the problem of you not being able to see all of the game, thus not knowing what a certain level looks like and stuff...)

If you want to build the levels, then yeah, I could probably do the graphics for them. I get work done pretty sporadically, so if you didn't want to wait on me, you could build levels with basic SMW objects like ledges, slopes, cement blocks, pipes, etc. I typically build levels like that and then go back and put the graphics in when I get them done.

How far into the game can you get with the blocks and sprites available to us? I know some completely new enemies show up at some point, but I don't know where. Could World 2 be built without much problem? I'm pretty much completely ignorant here...

Well.... World 2 is a Desert, so there's a lot of quicksand, Pokeys, and even some Hammer and Boomerang Bros. (All 4 types are in NSMB. ) There's a few Lakitus, some sandstorm whirlwinds, and stuff like that... It's been a while since I played through World 2 (maybe a few months), so I'll have to refresh my memory.

That all sounds fairly doable, except maybe the whirlwind. (Does it behave like in SMB3, where the player has to sprint in order to break through and avoid being carried backwards?)

Exactly. They took famous SMB3 elements and reworked them into all-new things. Basically, it's almost like a collaberation of Nintendo's best Mario games. So, we going to partner up to finish this or what?

two other words LOVED IT... only I could only play it at my Grandma's house... I wish I still could play it though.

I have an old laptop that can play it. Oh, if only this one I'm on now had a floppy disk drive, and if I had some floppy disks, I'd copy the game over to this laptop. Then I'd search for that level editor for it.

If you mean how to change exits so they use a Secondary Exit, it's an option in the Add/Modify/Delete Screen Exits Dialogue. If you mean how to modify where the exits take you and their entrance type/coordinates, that's under Modify Secondary Entrances (in hex) dialogue. The former is easily reached by clicking on the first Door Button (The one with a Door and a + on the left and a - on the right). The latter is the third door button, the one with a 2 on it. Hope that helps!

Answer this question: Are you wanting to change what happens when you use that exit, where you appear when appearing from that exit, or where you enter an exit enbled object to appear from that exit?
