...Spiffy.

For those who know me, It's good ol' Sagittaire from SMWC.

For those who dont: 19 year old computer programming major with intent to make an SMW hack for my college thesis. I also hack Doom WADs on the side, and have recently heard about this main forum where most of the hackers I've met have come from.

Hope to get to know you guys, and perhaps we can move the rom hacking community forward.

Later.

My plan's based around "The possibilites of programming". SMW seems to be the most ideal game to implement Assembly code and programming, in order to turn it into something completely different. I've played a fair share of hacks, and notice the differences between simple level edits and total conversions.

I've set out 4 years for the project, and am currently trying to implement ExGFX without having the graphics look like the aftermath of a horrid hangover. Suprisingly, it's trickier to edit than Doom, but it's simple to grasp the concepts. Hopefully all will come out right.

...and thanks for that intro link. Couldn't find it upon first look.

I used to eat a Mickey D's quite a bit. The dollar menu provided great opportunity for the munchies ( ). Nowadays, I tend to eat more at Subway or Quick-Chek (Developed a taste for 12inch subs).

So much junk food out there. I've actually become a health freak, heading to WholeFoods, Trader Joe's, and the sort. Organic food's not that bad, actually...

"Learning programming" in college? What's the exact name of the subject you enrolled for?

It's actually a double major: Computer Science and Business. Programming is one of the major classes I need to take, spanning over two semesters, and with the Business, I still have a path to get an MBA as well, securing both finance and my love for computers.

And...out comes Sagittaire.

Omega: Dude, LOVELY. Just...utterly...lovely. I'd say take your time, but..aw..dude, this MUST see the light of day! Dont get me wrong, take your time...but DAMN. It's like knowing you're going to receive a million bucks in the mail in 3 months, and all you have to do is wait. Hell, If possible, I'd be willing to try a beta version via PM or something. I plan to hack SMRPG EXTENSIVELY, and this is basically...me being a kid in a candystore.

Anyone with intent to edit: Let us collaborate. PM me.

How are things

Quite dandy, thank you very much.

CKY: Hilton Hotel breakfasts own Holiday Inn...

...AND you get Conrad Hilton's autobiography as a bonus, so you can read the history while chowing down on Blueberry pancakes.

...And now I ask the rest of you: How are YOU all doing?

they can take all the time in the world but we need small updates.

Or, they can cancel the project alltogether.

As it's a sacrifice on Omega and his team, they reserve rights to work at their leisure, proven that the overall product is completed sometime down the road. They have lives too.

...all I gotta say is: The moment it's released, big hype and creativity will have a new haven to shine. Hype is...always good.

Awsomely fantastic.
Literally, a masterful piece of work.

...man, the hype is skyrocketing!

And...I have questions:

1)What type of scripting is used within the editor?
2)Taking the scripting method into account, can the following be a possibility:

-Creating custom overworld maps unlike the ones that are already a part of the ROM? (Say you draw your own map in Photoshop/PaintShopPro, then script the waypoints and locations in)
-Importing custom graphics? (Monsters, Textures, Objects)
-Importing custom SPCs/MIDIs based on SMRPG's in-game insturments, like Addmusic for SMW?

...that's about it
(Some of these may be unlikely to happen, but hey, an unlikely question is better than no question at all.)

...I'm fiending man. I await the release!

The hack might serve as a template for learning the functions of the hack.

From the looks of it, it seems:

A)You can add special effects to your Maps much like Layers in Lunar Magic. Creativity
abounds.

B)Custom Items + Custom Item sale setups are possible. Therefore, custom Items are a definite.

C)The limits of an SMRPG map seem to have been partially broken. I'm guessing that, ideally, the map area should be either 1024x1024, 1536x1536, or even bigger. Since SMRPG is still a ROM file, there may be limitations, but best case scenario: The area of editing may be bigger than we think

D)Scripting movements for monsters and cutscenes may not be all scripting. Best case scenario: There is a scenario editor that has all the sprite movements detailed into tabs, commands, and message editing.

To Omega and/or Giangurgulo: Is beta testing in the works? I'm down to test and nitpick/constructively criticize all the aspects of the hack.

There is currently no public release of the editor since the accompanying hack has not been completed. The application will come out when the hack is finished.

I forgot to notice that...

Hmmm....

As a fellow hacker, and with experience in creating games, I'd say, Lazy Shell may be out in either an extra 2-3 weeks/2 months. Omega and Gian want this thing to be PERFECT, and I am willing to wait for it to be perfected.

To Omega/Gian: I hope you realize that, upon releasing this, you guys will forever be proclaimed hacking heroes. Seriously. Build your hype. The reception will be enormous.

Would both of you be quiet? This is their project and they can do whatever they want with it, even choose to keep it private if they wanted to. (I would be sad but...) Your complaining has no effect on their choice what-so-ever, except to maybe get really annoyed.

If you had been paying any attention to the thread at all, you would of noticed that they are still working on the hack that comes with the editor. A hack that has pre-fixed god knows how many bugs. It will also boost the popularity of the editor, as what better way to advertise than an awesome hack.

So, please don't keep nagging at them just because you want the editor, more people than you are waiting, and we don't "NAG nagNAG".

Sorry to the admins if this is considered flaming, but posts like these have really bugged me, ever since the beginning of romhacking.

To Omega45889 and giangurgolo nice work and keep it up, try not to be too bothered by the people who nag.

Fuck off.

Who appointed you judge magister?
You're no better than any other user. Dont drop the hammer unless you can hold it first.

Curb your e-ego, Narcissus. You're not the emperor of Board II.

As for LZ Progress: I'll give it 2-3 more weeks, tops. The hack must be released with the demo hack perfected.

Ah. I was planning to do this via the editor, but not bad man.
It'll definitely serve to show the potential of making a high-stat SMRPG game.

Mine was going for Lvl.100, and a secret dungeon, but hey, if you can pull off the statistical editing, go for it.

Dude, the editor is amazing, for many aspects. I'll give a bit of a detailed review of each area to give an idea of those who havent downloaded the editor yet what they should expect:

Format: Simple, clean, organized, and specific. Everything is self-explanatory, and the help file really demystifies everything (IMO, the help file could use a bit more organization presentation-wise, but everything is there). I like the ease.

Stats-Perfect. From editing attributes, conditions, behavior; pretty much anything regarding stats, everything is perfect. Good job.

Levels-This is scary danger, but managable. The help file really got me through it all, but to make a room requires quite a bit of time (Tiles must be placed carefully and methodically). Other than that, very organized and easy to manuver, again, thanks to the help files (Many people fail to read it, then they go "Omg lolz howduyu w0rk th1z l3v3l thingy lololol")

Scripts-Can be both an ASMers dream come true, and worst nightmare ever (Good in presentation, bad in the amount of potential event editing needed to be done). But overall, just about EVERYTHING is good about it. The time to take for editing the events may be long, but then again, everything in hacking takes a long while. Good stuff man.

Sprites-Didn't fool around here too long. Sprite editing kinda scares me, but when I eventually fiddle with it, I will provide feedback.

Overall, 9.9/10. Well done.

Thanks man. You and Gian are heroes of hacking. Revel in it.
To all others: Download, and dont be intimidated. It's easier to use than you think.
