"UNION SELECT" appers in many SQL injection attempts designed to extract private data from a database. Some time ago, someone added a security measure that IP banned anyone that loaded a page with that in the URL to prevent exploitation of any such undiscovered SQL injection hole. Later, someone (probably Xkeeper) started a thread with that URL in the icon entry. Anyone that loaded a forum listing in which that thread appeared would trigger the security measure and be IP banned. To prevent further abuse, the security measure was removed, but because the thread still has the icon, you can still see that URL appear in online users from time to time. |
