The one code that I could never find in this game was the Ultimate Kombat Kode that appears when you lose a match and don't continue (if you dont activate the cheat menu of course) In the 10+ years the game has been released, I have yet to see one magazine nor website acknowledge this missing link.

Recently, I have received an email from a MK fan who seen my post on other forum:

"Hi. It's about the Ultimate Kombat Kode in the N64 version of MK
Trilogy. I saw in a forum that you were looking for it. I am looking for
it too. I opened the .z64 rom of the game with an hex editor, and could
find out every existing kombat kode except the ultimate kombat kode (5
of the "classical" kombat kodes had never been released, but when I
discovered them I sent them to some video game web sites). However, in
the hex information I could retrieve the following text : - INCORRECT
CODE -..FROM THIS POINT ON......ENTER THE. ULTIMATE KOMBAT
KODE.....SMOKE AND KHAMELEON.ARE AT YOUR CONTROL.- GAME OVER - So, I guess that when you type the right kode, you get the message "From this point on, Smoke and Khameleon are at your control." The problem is, how
could we find this code ? Do you have any idea ? I dont know anything
about hacking. Thanks !"

To be honest, I never thought about the possibility of hacking. Does anyone here have any knowledge in this skill? Or is this simply a sign saying the code doesnt exist. (I think its bad if Midway doesnt even know)

thanks

It's very likely that Midway/Williams simply forgot to implement the Kombat Kode.

Maybe you can find the code if you keep looking in the hex editor. That's how Metroid's NarPassword was found.

The code is 113-840.

I found it many years back when I was messing with a Gameshark, but I can't remember exactly how I did. All that I know is that it wasn't obvious to find in the Memory Editor.. different values were used for it compared to all of the other "Kodes", which is why it can't be found as easily as the others.

And yes, it does say "SMOKE AND KHAMELEON ARE AT YOUR CONTROL" and unlocks them when you use the code. It is pretty pointless though since you can just enable them through other cheats.

Tested and it works. You know that this code has never been documented before Proto K? I imagine some MK fanatics would be pretty happy to see this code finally discovered, even tho it doesn't do anything new.

Yes, it does work. I personally have been looking for this code for ages. And now we finally got it. I am the one who sent the e-mail to ddp72984, and I'm happy that it eventually led to Proto K's unexpected unveiling of the code. Although it doesn't do anything new or useful, I take as a great satisfaction that we finally know everything about this game :

1. The 78 kombat kodes, 5 of which had never been documented until I discovered them in a hex editor and sent them to some web sites (345-987 WILLY WEST KOMBAT ; 543-345 KOMBAT ZONE: LIVING FOREST ; 137-246 KOMBAT ZONE: THE PIT BOTTOM ;
524-425 PREPARE FOR MORTAL KOMBAT IV ; 246-975 RAINS COUNTERPART IS SNOW)

2. Baraka's morph for Shang Tsung, which has remained undocumented for quite a long time : R, R, LP, BL.

3. The Ultimate Kombat Kode.

4. The messages spoken by Khameleon, Smoke, Motaro and Shao Kahn, when they randomly appear at the beginning of a battle : 10 messages for each character. All messages are written in the .z64 rom when you open it with a hex editor.

KHAMELEON :

*

I AM CALLED KHAMELEON
*

TREES AND SHRUBS ARE PLACES TO MEET
*

YOU CAN NOT DEFEAT ME
*

MORE THEN TWO WILL KEEP ME AWAY
*

ONE IS NOT ENOUGH
*

I WILL BE HARD TO SEE
*

START ON THE BRIDGE OF STARS
*

I AM THE MASTER OF DISGUISE
*

WAIT FOR TOASTY
*

ARE YOU A WORTHY CHALLENGER?

SMOKE :

*

START WITH SMOKE
*

PROVE YOURSELF
*

THE KEYS TO FINDING ME
*

RELEASE THE INNER SOUL
*

I WAS ONCE HUMAN
*

START BEFORE THE FIGHT
*

FROSTY
*

AWAY WE GO
*

RUN AND BLOCK
*

HI PUNCH AND HI KICK

MOTARO :

*

I AM AT YOUR CONTROL
*

AWAY YOU WILL SEE
*

SEARCH FOR ME IN THE WASTELAND
*

BRING ON GORO
*

BRING ON KINTARO
*

I LIKE JADES DESERT
*

BEFORE ONE FIGHTS IS THE TIME
*

KICKS ARE THE KEY
*

I WILL CRUSH ALL
*

THE TOWER IS A FAVORITE

SHAO KAHN :

*

I AM AT YOUR CONTROL
*

FIND ME ON THE ROOFTOP
*

PUNCHES ?
*

BEFORE FIGHT BUTTONS PUSHED
*

ARE YOU WORTHY?
*

MY KAVE IS A GOOD SPOT
*

FROSTY
*

DONT FORGET TO DUCK DOWN
*

TRY THE PIT III
*

I CANNOT BE DEFEATED

I think the messages from bosses were overkill. Doing it for hidden Khameleon, and maybe Human Smoke was good enough.

Does anyone understand what "UNIKORIV REFERRI" mean ? The message appears when you enter the kombat kode 044-440 (the players begin with almost no energy). It's "UNIKORIV REFERRI: SANS POWER". "Sans power" means "without power" ("SANS" is a french word), but I can't figure out what the first part mean. "REFERRI" is latin, it's the passive infinitive of "refero", "to refer", but I really don't see what it means here. I thought of an anagram, but couldn't find any anagram with that. Did anyone ever wonder what it means ?

The letter K isn't used very often in Latin, but this is Mortal Kombat so it's probably actually unicoriv. The closest word I can find to that is unicoris, which is the plural of "of one color".

So... my best guess is "to be referred to with one color".

Now, I haven't played this game, but I assume the health bars are something like a green bar that turns red as you get beat on? If the code makes the health bar so low that it's actually all red, then the "of one color" bit makes sense.

Thanks for your guess. The latin word would be "unicoLOris", which is plural dative/ablative of unicolorus. It doesn't really make sense. And this doesn't explain the final -v. Those MK programmers are really strange guys

Edit

I got it guys ! UNIKOR is a company which sells batteries. Cf www.unikor.com

IV must mean 4, it might be the reference of a particular model. MK programmers must have had some misadventure with that company : they must have bought a battery and then discovered that there was no power inside. The word "referri" would mean "to be brought back" (since refero means "to bring back"). So the translation would be : "Unikor 4 to be brought back (= must be brought back to the retailer) : no power." Clever, huh ?

Edit 2

Apparently, UNIKORIV and REFERRI are anagrams for Vinikour and Ferrier : Mike Vinikour and Eddie Ferrier both are MK testers.
