It's my birthday today and I feel happy so I made a quick two-level demo of my game for you all. No fancy overworld because the levels aren't even connected in the true game--this is more like a short level sampler.
Pics: Here's the download link: super mario eternity-birthday version.zip - 0.34MB The full version is some time away and I'm not giving any more demos after this. If you want to know how far I am on the full version, I'm in the middle of world 4 out of 7 or 8. I haven't decided exactly how many worlds to put in even though I'm halfway done. Heck, I still don't have the whole overworld done yet but that'll be done soon. Have fun! ____________________ |

K, pics...
1) Neat. Good font there. 2 levels isn't much of a demo though. 2) These graphics really clash. You've mixed many different styles into one image, which doesn't look too good. 3) This is decent, but you should colour non-solid blocks slightly differently to indicate they're not solid. If you have a sprite passing by every one of them though, and no disappearing sprite problems, that's probably good enough. 4) A bit bright for an underwater castle, but otherwise good. 5) Again, good but doesn't look underwater. I like how the fish seem to glow here. Overall a good use of mostly original graphics, but they could use some minor adjustments. Keep in mind that SMW's graphics were designed exclusively for SMW's levels, so to try to design a hack using no other graphics while including themes not present in SMW (space stations are an excellent example of this) is a bit silly. |

1. Two levels isn't much of a demo, but this wasn't a true demo and I've already released one demo here. It's somewhere back on the SMW Hacking page.
2. As for the trees in the switch palace, the level on the overworld is in the middle of the forest so I thought I'd include some forest elements. 3. There are sprites walking in front of all the walk-through walls and I haven't encountered any disapperances. 4. The pallete I found and all I did was recolor the sprites to also look underwater. The original form of the pallete left them alone. 5. I have trouble making levels look underwater if there's no underwater background used. Truth be told, I hate the underwater BG. It looks sloppy and hastily thrown together so I rarely want to use it. Aside from my short rant though, I can't think of a way to have it more underwater-looking. The level it's in goes really fast due to me making the blank land left movement blocks and calling it a strong current so I guess I didn't really worry too much about whether or not it looked underwater because the fish should show that and you'll only be spening about 15-20 seconds there. 6. I'm planning on inserting some true ExGFX into the game for anything that the original graphics can't cover and probably just some general levels as well. I've got some Metroid Zero Mission graphics for a temple I'm going to make later in the game and am looking for some more as I go. ____________________ |
