Does anyone have some general tips on editing the nice storyline text? I mean the thing they show with the blue background, white letters, classic Final Fantasy prologue theme, first thing you see when you open the ROM...

I know stuff about searching, and I've even built my own table for the game. However, the text of the prologue doesn't appear to be all together in one place.

I know Acmlm has done a hack in which he edited the text there (Final Fantasy Mario or something to that effect), so I know its possible. I'm just not sure how to go about it.

If anyone could help me, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify, FF1 right?

Yes, FF1. Probably should have mentioned that in that long, elaborate post I made...

I don't think DTE is used for the title, but that could be the reason you didn't find it :[

I've been reading some documents (this one to be specific). I knew Final Fantasy used DTE, so maybe this will be a good learning experience in DTE if it does, in fact use it.

Any other suggestions before I plunge into the ROM again?

Well, my FFHackter came with premade tables, both normal and DTE, if that helps~

I also think most of the text like that is situated near the ending and bridge sceen stuff. I haven't touched the game in forever though.

I think I remember you lurid... didn't you have a Ruka and Lyn sig at one time?

The text for the intro resides at $37F30 through $3800F, and utilizes either standard or DTE text.

While I'm at it, this will help if you edit the text for the bridge crossing or ending...

The following will require an understanding of pointers to use.

Take an address, drop the 3 from the beginning, subtract $10, add $4000, then swap
the bytes.

Naturally, you can find an address from a pointer by reversing this process.

By altering the pointers you can store the text for any given screen elsewhere in the bank, should you need more room.

Anyway.

Bridge Crossing Scene:

$36810: Bridge Crossing Pointer, First Screen
$36812: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Second Screen
$36814: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Third Screen
$36816: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Fourth Screen

After this, the credits for the game are elsewhere in ROM (And even use a different character set, not that that stops you from using standard text in the area they're located).

37B10: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Fifth Screen <-This triggers a game killing checksum if edited; Change bytes $3CFEF and $3CFF0 to $A9 and $00, respectively (This hack was created by Vagla; the FF hack I worked on used a different method devised by DahrkDaiz, but both accomplish the same ends).

$37B12: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Sixth Screen
$37B14: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Seventh Screen
$37B16: Bridge Crossing Pointer, Eighth Screen

If for some reason you can't figure out where the text is from the pointers (Work on that if you can't!):

First four screens of text are located between $36842 and $368F2.
Last four are between $37B18 and $37B9D.

Ending:

Pointers: $36818 - $36841 (21 pairs)
Text Location: $368F3 - $36DB1

Thanks guys, I found it. I found it myself after stealing a table off of Zophar's Domain. I would have replied sooner but I was without the internet over the weekend.

Yup, it uses DTE.

And yes, you would be correct Celice.
