Sweet Jesus, for a second I thought Legoman had appeared on Kotaku, but even this puts him to shame.

Except that this hack seems like it was made on purpose to piss people off. There doesn't seem to be any [dramatically] broken tiles.

All in all, having someone else do it makes it great.

I have this felling this hack is being played by some learning sort of program. Because you can clearly see it doing some unnecasary things over and over...

Wow, this thing looks evil, I suddenly have an urge to download it, if only to have a taste of the horror myself, and if I can find it, no link to a patch there... As to the program suggestion, I doubt it, I don't think someone would take all the time to write the program just to demonstrate a hack for them.

How that guy managed to play the hack for 23 minutes is beyond me. I got bored of watching him die after 5 minutes.

Yeah, if i were him, I'd use savestates to get farther, the hack is impossible.

I still say Air is better.

This hack looks so stupid and hard, it's FUNNY. XD I love watching this person try valiantly to get past the obstacles, only to die a painful death... Especially the deaths by Firebars. XD But I wonder... Why does Mario always pop up into the air at the starting of the level?

Hack is obviously for japanese players because they have superior gameplaying abilities. That is why SMB2J wasn't released there.

*Sarcasm must be noted.

I don't think it's so much for Japanese players as skilled players. You need good timing and skills to beat it. (Not all skilled players live in Japan )

Although again, I believe Air was better. It forces the player to know and utilize many glitches and errors in the SMB engine rather than rely on avoiding evilly-placed invisible coin boxes. (Hell, this one could be beaten easier -- get the mushroom from the box and jump through the ceiling)

I've actually played a SMB3 hack of similarly impossible difficulty. I remember one place where you had to swim horizontally along a fairly long, one tile high waterfall with hammers and such raining down on you. And this was only the beginning of 1-1.

Or, if you use Nestopia, you'd play the hack, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time-style!

This is where the name "Nindento" comes into play as a nickname for hackers -- they put a dent into your childhood memories of SMB.

I hate hacks that are so hard that you have to use savestates every few pixels! Usually I only savestate at the start of each level in case of bugs, computer crashes, etc. Hell, some real NES games are that hard. Like Lone Ranger, I was never able to come close to beating that game. Your health bar drains fast, and you can go a very long way without being able to replenish it...the jumping physics are as bad as Castlevania's, but at least Castlevania let you start at the last door when you die. In Lone Ranger, you generally have to redo like the past 6 towns and 50 or more screens full of enemies. It's like playing Zelda 3 and only being able to save every third dungeon (only MUCH harder than Zelda 3).

Because I'm an Asian language cunt, I must clarify that this is Chinese, not Japanese.

Watching him die to the hidden coin block over and over in 1-2 is oddly amusing.

The hidden coin got old quickly. The only time I laughed at it was at 1:03 when he hit it before the fireball. That was well-played.

Also, I've heard so much about Air all around. Does anyone have a link of this movie/IPS/whatever? It sounds amusing.

A TAS of Air can be found on this link.

As for the HellHack...

Nice. Reminds me of my favourite phrase to use.

Oh HELL No.

It's boring after 15:00 or farther, where he just keeps doing the same jump over (and over)x6 until he messes it up reel bad at the end, where he dies to the actual game.

Actual game.

In Hell, this is the only game on the Virtual Console.

Seriously, wow. It's like if Hitler, Stalin and the inventor of popup ads made a video game. It did get kinda boring near the end though when he just kept dying over and over in the same few spots. Though it was funny that he got 65 coins almost entirely by hitting hidden blocks and dying. This guy must have some patience, and some crazy amount of spare time, to play that long. It's funny too to see him take a minute to line up a jump, then discover a hidden block and die.

It seemed like they might have changed the physics too. Was Mario's standing jump always that weak? Also there's some pretty good comments on the page (some of them from people with obviously poor connections ).

So how long until we see a TAS?
