Which one would you be interested in the most?
Zelda Origins

Zelda Origins

· The Legend of Zelda
· Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

Mega Man: The Wily Wars

· Mega Man
· Mega Man 2
· Mega Man 3

Super Mario All-Stars: Vol. 2

· Donkey Kong
· Dr. Mario
· Mario is Missing
· Mario's Time Machine
· Mario and Yoshi

NES Racing Collection

· Rad Racer
· Marble Madness
· Excite Bike
· Days of Thunder
· Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge

The first three I would love to see done. I'm seriously considering doing Zelda Origins. I'd simply have to convert Zelda II to MMC5, and then I could do it.

Out of curiosity, which ones would you like to see? Or, do you have your own compilation? Post about it here!

If you can manage a way to fit all the NES Mega Man games into one cart (like the bootleg cart with but SRAM) I'd recommend going for a Mega Man Legacy Collection instead of just normal Wily Wars. It'd be especially awesome if it was made to save the E-tanks and extra lives gained too, it's so annoying how those aren't stored in the password after all.

Just my personal opinion, I figure it may be possible since the 6-in-1 cart exists anyways.

I like PKstarship's idea. I forget the mapper that utilizes larger ROM support though.

yea i've heard there's supposedly a couple mappers that can have even more than 1 MB of programming space compared to mmc5... but there really crappy mappers that dont have any features at all, and the graphics are still really tiny like 256 KB or something

I dont think they would be good for the megaman games at all, but im not totally sure

hmm, curious cause aren't there like 25 in 1 or 50 in 1 games, that have various mapper titles on them? I swear I've seen all 3 Mario Bros on one of those, and the rom size was, I think, close to 8mb.

This.

Or how about MM1-3 plus hack where the Genesis Robot Master stages can be played with the weapons intact?

BTW, would this hack Megaman Origins get an update that doesn't include the whole roms in it? If this failed, how would Megaman 1-6 NES Legacy Collection happen?

I don't know if you guys noticed that (I certainly did), but when you open up Megaman Origins, the title logo flashes on the top part of the screen for a second, before my RetroRain Presents logo pops in. It is so minor, but it bothers the shit out of me haha. Also, I didn't like the way I programmed the whole intro sequence. I could have done it more efficiently, but at the time this was the best I could do.

Since then I learned a lot about the NES from programming my Megaman homebrew demo.

I might redo my Megaman Origins hack, and re-release it. However, to answer your question Zynk, I would not ADD to Megaman Origins. I like the hack the way it is. That is why it is called Megaman Origins. Because Megaman 2 is really the game that started it all, but Megaman 2 would not have been possible if Megaman 1 didn't happen, so the multi-cart hack is appropriately called Megaman Origins, because it includes the very first two Megaman games that made it possible for the series to be what it became.

And I don't see how it is possible to keep the ROM data out of the patch. Someone at RHDN mentioned a different type of patching method, but again, data is data. It's going to be there one way or another.

If I made The Wily Wars, it would be a brand new hack from scratch. I still like Origins just the way it is. But I really want to re-program the intro sequence and make it better. Some music would be nice too, which is what I really wanted.

And this time, I wouldn't program it directly in hex. I would write it in a text file, just like I did with my homebrew. It would be a lot easier to deal with.

I'd honestly prefer to not see any more of these multicart hacks. Particularly if they're utilizing MMC5 hardware, they encourage people to harvest rare cartridges, both individually and in larger-scale "production" runs, which drives up prices and depletes a limited resource. The one major feature these hacks add to these games is only really useful on real hardware, further encouraging this behavior.

If making more multicart hacks is really that important, I suggest sticking with a more conventional mapper that works flawlessly on flash cartridges or has brand new reproduction boards available, such as MMC3. That said, I'd rather see people spending their limited time and energy on making something new and interesting or substantially improving an existing game, not pasting several together into a single ROM and probably introducing new bugs in the process.

Regarding other patching formats, there exist ones which can move data around in a target file instead of containing the values of all bytes that differ. xdelta is one such format. However, I don't know if any are able to take multiple source files to produce a single destination file, which is really what you want for this sort of project to avoid distributing one or more entire copyrighted works.

I respect NetSplit's opinion. Granted my all-stars project is a multicart, but I had a goal to see if I was able to create one, cause I was always fascinated with Mario bros/duck hunt/world class track meet.

I would love to use MMC3, but that mapper lacks the rom space I require. So until people out there hack the mappers to utilize larger rom space, then I'm sticking with MMC5. You will never be able to deter the masses on things you'd like seen or done. Not trying to be negative, but again I agree with your thoughts on the economics of rare titles being destroyed to bring a new game to life.

As for flash carts, Krikzz and other developers need to utilize larger wram flash chips, they focus solely on commercial size capping them at 512kb each for prg/chr. But MMC5 is my favorite mapper, but I use it because of the vast amount of prg/chr that's available. Open my Legend of Link in a her viewer, & in TLP or YY-CHR. My vision would've never been possible without this mapper.

I feel more consumer demand should be put on flash cart creators. I love the PowerPak I received for my Tetris Zero project. But I've spoken to Krikzz directly, and I refuse to purchase the N8 Everdrive until larger chip support is implemented. I have his Everdrive 64v3, and Mega Everdrive X7, they are remarkable devices on my Ultra HDMI 64, and my RGB SCART model 1 Genesis. The PowerPak runs great on my HDMI NES. Sorry for trailing off topic.

I'd vote for MM: Wily Wars.
MMC3 conversions for all of the Mega Man games should exist as far as I know.

I said at RHDN you can do Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble 2 and Rainbow Islands.

But you can always add these games...

1. Duck Tales
2. Duck Tales 2
3. Rescue Rangers
4. Rescue Rangers 2
5. Tale Spin
6. Darkwing Duck

A nice little title of The Disney Afternoon and it should be okay...

The poll shows that most people want Mega Man: The Wily Wars for the NES. And this was the same at RHDN.

In order for me to make MMTWW, I'd have to convert Megaman 3 to MMC5 (which wouldn't be a problem) and (here is where the real work-load is) re-convert Megaman 1 to CHR-ROM.

I converted MM1 to CHR-ROM when I made the MM Upgrade Patch. However, Megaman 1 would have to exist in its original form (with no alterations), and that would require me to re-convert it again.

And as you may know, I already converted MM2 to CHR-ROM (known as MM2 Optimum), so I would use that conversion.

Once that is done, I could then program the boot-up screen from scratch, and then insert everything into the ROM.

MMTWW uses multiple save-files for each game if I'm not mistaken, so after all of that is done, I'd have to figure out how to include that in each game as well. I'd definitely have my work cut out for me.

I'm still undecided if I'm going to do it or not (only because of my real-life situation), but I'm keeping it mind.

I made this years ago for rockman 5 ... not megaman 5 just a quick little hobby project for fun one morning. I should of done it for mm3 but i just randomly did mm5 for no reason in particular.

you could potetially use this as a base, as it starts ya off with MMC5 already, and 1 MB of programming/graphic space. I think it's 512 graphics, 512 programming.

Also mm5 is the only one in the NES mm's with that extremely useful automatic graphic page swapping thing for sprites. None of the other games had.

but then this kind of ruins the whole plan then, having to import mm3 stuff to 5... bleh no clue how you'd even do that so.. i guess this aint a good thing then. :|

Yeah the fact that they're all MMC5 isn't the problem. They all have to use the same graphics format as well. That's the thing. I looked into Mapper 45 as Disch suggested one time, and MM1, 2 and 3 add up to more bytes than that mapper can handle. So MMC5 is the only way to go. And MM1 has to be converted to CHR-ROM in order to incorporate all 3 games into one cartridge. Had I not previously converted MM2 to CHR-ROM, the work-load would have been insane. It took me a whole month just to convert MM2, and 3 months to convert MM1 (that was my first conversion, so I'd most likely be faster the second time around).

That is one of the things I can't stand about the NES. The bullshit with the mappers and graphics formats.
