So, yeah, breaking the taboo about requests. I actually want requests and ideas for applications such as editors and tools of various kinds. I'd prefer to make level editors for NES/SNES games, but all ideas will be considered.
Why would I do this? I want to learn how to program and need projects that will make me busy for tis purpose. It needs to be meaningful and stimulating to me so I will choose project based on this. The app will probably be written in C#. Let the crunching begin! |

For what it's worth, I also made an editor in C#: Epic Edit. You might be interested in either forking it, or just looking at its source code. |

It's possible to make a generic map editor that works for many NES games. In fact, some have been made, but they are not open source and lack features. Take a look at this for an example of a tool that was almost there but the author lost interest:

I would love an ASM6-compatible assembler with these additions:
IPS and BPS patch generation support, as well as direct ASM patches NES 2.0 support Support for 65816 (SNES, Apple 2 GS), 65c02 (Apple 2 Plus) and Hu6280 (PCE/TG16) Header directives Unofficial opcodes for 6502 mode Table File support with 8-bit (byte) or 16-bit(word-sized, or 2 byte) character support Palette Directives (depends on CPU mode) And so on. If you do this, I will give you credit for anything made with this!!! ____________________ Mah boi, romhacking is what all true warriors strive for! I wonder what's for dinner? |

In the future, I want to hack one of my favorite games, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest.
This is probably asking too much, but that game needs a level editor for the world maps and areas. Just thought I'd mention it since you were taking requests. I don't expect you to do it though. ____________________ My YouTube Channel |

Has anyone made a good editor for any part of SMAS yet? |

The OP hasn't been active since posting this thread, but hopefully he is reading our replies and taking into consideration what could be done.
I personally think nesrocks' idea would be the most useful for ROM hackers. You could maybe also make a Super Mario Land 2 editor, that would be a very fun game to hack in my opinion, I really liked that game. I know an SML1 editor is apparently in the works since my friend made the logo for it. ____________________ microneppy |

Posted by SledgeBrother1 Wouldn't be a bad idea, actually, since Pikmin isn't really a game that a lot of people have looked into. Would give your project a lot of interest, although I'm not sure of the interest of this forum, which is mostly geared towards NES and SNES hacking. ____________________ microneppy |

Posted by Arva Would be nice to have an MM1/MM2 editor in the style of MegaFLE X. Just to streamline MM1/MM2 hacking at least a little. Oh, and please make sure said editor is compatible with the MegaMan 1 disassembly and maybe a hypothetical MegaMan 2 disassembly...if someone will FINALLY make one so we can finally go with le times. |

If you want, you can help me to work on CadEditor - universal NES level editor written with C#.
https://github.com/spiiin/cadeditor There are many cool features, that I want to implement. Also I want to improve some tools for easy romhacking (for example, tool for automation level data detection - https://github.com/spiiin/NesBlockFinder , written in python; or tool for trace data from ROM to VRAM for detection level and scrite data location). |

spiiin: I didn't know about that editor, looking forward to its development. I second the opinion that it would be a great idea to get group effort on improving it.
Also, it is beautiful that you made it easy to add new game support to it, it's the right direction that it be user friendly so you don't have to manually do it yourself, and it means it can be used for new homebrew games too. I'll be testing it soon! |

Posted by Synthetekh I wish there is! As for me I am good with SMB3SMAS romhacking and I been modifying the game for many years. SMB1SMAS or SMBTLL is the least. There are editors for porting levels or editing completely from the ground up. For SMB1 - It's SMB2SMC as in Super Mario Bros. (NES) to Super Mario Collection. I actually archive it to RHDN a long time ago to prevent it from being loss from the author. For SMB2USA which is the LEAST of the romhacking community it is SMB2 Transmogrificator. For SMB3 - It's SMB3 Workshop and your rom name must be Mario-X.smc. Currently incomplete support but I have the BALLS to create levels from the ground up and switching pointers. Does not work with SMAS + World or the Japanese version and must have the SNES rom header to load. The purpose of using SMB3 Workshop for SMAS is to view the level designs except the Bonus levels which some of them has 5-Bytes which is unusual and impossible to read the code data. MushROMs was supposed to be build which is SMB1 & SMBTLL along with other 2 games, no official releases. So yeah we definitely need a SMAS editor and it's the year 2017! If anyone would like to hack SMB3SMAS, I suggest to learn to make levels from the NES version and know basic ASM 6502 or 65816 code. With the right documents I have written, you will master the mechanics and create many levels even with adding more rom space since SMAS in the SMB3 database has full of empty spaces to insert levels or enemies. |
