It really is underrated as an operating system. It never got the chance to succeed. But it was a great OS, even xKitten said it was the best Microsoft OS - while it comes close for me, Windows XP was better, but Vista is still better.
Improvements in securityMicrosoft didn't include UAC because to annoy people, it is included so that you can get admin access while doing admin tasks, just like how Mac OS X and Ubuntu asks for a password when running as root. It's a similar case, and while it does get a little irritating, it's there to provide security. Another thing is that drivers were rewritten because XP had so many bad drivers written for it that were insecure and buggy, Vista updated the driver kernal so that lazy developers had to get off their arse and write something actually secure and useful. Performance IssuesPeople that trying to run on 512 MB of RAM and 10 GB hard drive discs like they could with Windows XP - just isn't possible. It's going to run slow and that is that, it's a new OS, means new standards and specifications for the system, of course, don't be so blind. When computers got better and Windows 7 was released, somehow it was absolutely fine to have the same specifications, but not when it was Vista. In fact 7 eats more RAM than Vista, you know. More OrganisedPeople switching from XP to Vista noted that the directories were changed so you had a personal folder - this actually made things better since not everything was disorganised in My Documents for instance, contacts are more easily editable, and such things. Oh yeah, and your save files are kept in Saved Games should it be supported AeroIt's actually extremely revolutionary and brings some grace and prettiness to the desktop, it is graceful like XP embedded theme, yet people moaned about this too? WTF? Also, unlike Windows 7, Vista actually doesn't have a taskbar the size of Minecrafter4718, nor does it hide the system tray icons, which is heavily irritating. It's more efficient the Vista Aero way. Service PacksVista had 2 service packs that greatly improved performance, especially SP1. SP2 brings it to a level which is slightly faster than Windows 7, but it is still very close. They both offered many new features and improvements as a matter of fact (although updates are broken unless you follow a certain guide nowadays in SP2). Search Function, Mail, Calendar, etc.Windows Vista had a good and extensive search function that actually worked properly and could be refined properly too unlike 7, and also has programs like Mail and Calendar installed by default. Windows 7 had an extremely lazily removed version of Mail included - it references it everywhere yet can't be opened because of a broken DLL - and forces you to use the worse and unintuitive Live versions. Also, WMP12 is a major downgrade from WMP11. HypocrisyWindows 7 is basically Vista with tweaks to make it WORSE, that's it, NOT BETTER, yet people think Windows 7 is an original and amazing OS, despite it being Vista with a few changes. The EndHope you enjoyed that! OP: My Blog Entry ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

I used Windows Vista for a while on my computer - which was marked as Vista Capable - and led to so many issues that I moved to Mac and never looked back since. ____________________ Starroad32 |

Posted by MathUser2929 SP2 was released just before Windows 7 and fixed a lot of the compatibility and speed issues with the OS, thats why it got a lot better ____________________ Jamie Dignam |

10 gb hard drive? I thought I had it bad with a 30 gb hard drive. I don't miss xp at all. I'm on win10 now with classic shell installed so it looks like windows 7. So glad to be off xp and old computers. |

Posted by MathUser2929 I'm using Windows 10, though I hate the Start Menu, so I use Windows 8's Start Screen instead, which was one of the things I liked about that OS. It kept everything neatly organised in my opinion. ____________________ microneppy |
