This is a small hack for the SNES game Super Earth Defense Force to drop the volume of a couple sound effects. Specifically, the "enemy taking damage" sound effect has been dropped considerably, and the "enemy death" sound has been dropped slightly.
These sounds are annoyingly loud for the frequency at which you hear them, and drown out the music (for a game with a pretty decent soundtrack) almost entirely. I left the enemy shot sounds alone for now, because you hear them way less often, and it's generally more important to know when they happen vs. the ones I changed. If there are any other sounds you think should be dropped, or any other issues, let me know :3 IPS patch here. You should use the US version of the ROM (Super Earth Defense Force (U) [!].smc) for this patch (have not tested with others). Or, to make the change manually, change 42DE3 from FF to A0, and 42E18 from FF to C0. Since this is an audio hack, there are no relevant screenshots, but I do have a comparison video here - the first two minutes or so are the original game, then the next two minutes are the hack. There are time links in the video description also. |
