Hey guys. Krumple here and I need help, now I have Xample trace Super FX Chip data from 3 DKC games cause for some reason my emulator freezes when I run a game on it, anyway he enabled Num Lock on his computer to see if it will trace Super FX Chip instructions while running a DKC game but it didn't do anything. Why is it not working?

Dunno, but try fusoya.panicus.org, he compiled a version of Geiger's SNES9X debugger with SuperFX Tracing enabled.

I don't see it, all I see is the same emulator that freezes when I run a game on it, thanks for helping anyway. Is there another way I can find Super FX Chip data?

I'm using that right now to try to trace the data, but like what Krumple said, it doesn't trace, or leave anything.

no DKC game use the SuperFX chip, why is everybody thinking this?

Anyway just enable numlock and disable it once you want the trace to stop, this will create a file called 'sfx_trace.txt' wich is the data that have been logged. It will also create two .srm file for the SRAM state before and after the login

if this still don't work, try using Geiger SNES9x debugger and detect write to $301E, $301F and $3034, those are the program counter for the superFx $301E is the low byte $301F is the high byte and $3034 is the ROM bank, by using those you can find out where exactly SuperFX is starting to run his program so you can edit/disassamble/whatever it

I was about to say the same thing.

Try Starfox or SMK.

Well, you won't have any luck tracing Super FX data in any of the DKC games, try Yoshi's Island instead.

SMK is DSP1 chip I think and not the SuperFX chip. Try Stunt Racer FX

I think the DKC games use a standard format cartridge, no SuperFX or SA-1 or anything like that...

Well, they gotta have something for them to have 3D rendered GFX. How else am I supposed to add Skurvy to my DKC1 hack once my level editors are made?

DKC does not use 3d GFX. Research and try your idea again.

Nothign hidden here, move along.

DKC has no 3D graphics. Sprite based. Good day.

You'd be surprised how many "3D" graphics are really 2D snapshots of 3D models. Even Super Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 did this to reduce polygon count.

They dont use any special chips of any kind for the graphics. All the graphics in the DKC series are 2D. Just like those in say, Super Mario World.

What Rare did was create 3D models for each graphic/object/sprite using computer software, rendering in full 3D and with high resolution textures.

...They then simply took bitmap snapshots of those models, converted them, and imported the 2D graphics into the game.

No 3D is in any of the DKC games. It's just good 2D artwork. Srsly.

OK! We get it! We were both wrong! But he needs some data of some sort to help him out finish his editor. And I can't remember what that "data of some sort" is.

Well, you're both being a bit vague.

If you tell us what you know so far, and what you have found, then that would surely help.
