Since the old machine was starting to exhibit an excessive number of age-related symptoms, we have finally moved to a new server.

As the whole configuration was put on its head, there is bound to be some number of issues; please let me know in this thread if you experience any.

All the best,
Housekeeping

Ah that's good. When I first saw myself logged out I thought something went wrong.

Also, I begrudgingly switched our registration process to ReCAPTCHA (a pretty painful endeavour... it refused to create the response form field so I had to hack around that with some JS glue). Hopefully this will stem the tide of angry French bots somewhat.

I'm not sure if this is server-related or not, but sometimes when I log in I automatically get logged out and then when I try to log back in, it shows that I'm online but I still appear as a guest. This has been happening for about 2 weeks, now. --ShaneM

This stinks, hopefully it won't take too long for it to move completely. I, of course, was using the old archives for a minor side-project of mine at this time, so now I have to use the wayback machine and hope it has what I'm looking for until this finishes

What do those emoticons mean in this context anyway? I'm assuming means finished, and means not finished, but what about the ? Does that mean it's partially moved but not all the way or something?

I see this site is still plagued with necrobumpers and bots

I was wondering what was going on the day that this happened, since I wasn't able to access anything. I was happy to find out that this is all it was. Hopefully the server move works successfully as expected.

I figure everyone has already noticed, but I didn't see it mentioned anywhere yet, at least not in this thread, and I definitely don't mean to be annoying at all or "that guy", but any idea on how soon our avatars and mood avatars will be back? Ha ha.

(Please take your time and don't allow my post to rush you or influence the order that you're planning to do anything. You know what you're doing. )

No, by all means, thanks for pointing it out; I didn't even notice.

PHP abolished register_globals with the new version; a lot of the old scripts had to be converted, and I forgot about that one. (Some more graphics stuff might still be broken in the same fashion.)

Unfortunately, the necrobumper we are looking at is not a bot but one extremely dedicated French guy who seems to have some kind of unhealthy obsession(s/chair/board/) with us. We are mopping his reregs up daily, but I'd really rather find a way of automating the process forever or having his house bombarded from orbit or something.

You're super special awesome! Thank you very much, blackhole89!

When I noticed following the server move that no one had avatars, I wondered if there was a slight possibility that their storage was lost, and I wasn't entirely sure if I had all of mine saved. (Wow, typing it out loud just basically says I'm the one definitely wasting precious storage space with a bunch of random, unimportant images. )

Though I do understand how you established the server move as a fresh start of sorts for coding and configuration overall, so I figured that wasn't necessarily the case, but again, I didn't mean to rush or direct you at all. I'm happy that it was helpful in a way, even though I evidently didn't help directly. It's all you.

I'll stop wasting post space now too. Ha ha. Thank you again, and best of luck with the ongoing process of the server move overall. (In addition, the registration person/being too, though hopefully he/she/it will eventually come to realize that they are just taking up potentially precious moments in their/its life/batteries that could be better spent creating something, or maybe signing up to be an organ/parts donor.)

Not trying to sound impatient or anything, but is everything with it alright? There haven't been any updates in days

All of sudden the uploader isn't working again. I got this message when I tried to upload something:

Uploading RetroRain's Mapper Conversion Pack v1.1.zip(size 2459).
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 's Mapper Conversion Pack v1.1.zip', '7 Mapper Conversions','12','840','2459',UNI' at line 1You get ID #0. All seems well.

Should be fixed. Dang, magic_quotes_gpc is pretty subtle.

When you get to the IRC part let either Bouche or myself know. We've been discussing an overhaul since we may have to redo services thanks to a mysql issue on Bouche's server. I'd like to possibly save you from doing double work if I can.

Would be nice to have the archives back up. They're nice to have at times.

The old server was about to be ten years old this year, wasn't it? About time it was upgraded away from. Surprised it kept going for this long actually, I think it had one hardware failure quite a few years back that was resolved?

Yeah. The old server is still up, on that matter; the HDD was just starting to feel sluggish enough that I suspected it would kick the bucket again soon. On the other hand, I really would have moved earlier if it weren't for the new server's RAID constantly glitching (somewhat disturbingly, it still occasionally flips bits in files on the order of one GB, even though I've had them exchange the disks, cables and RAID controller).

The two main holdups to getting the archives up are that I really want to sandbox them up better (I was constantly under the impression that there are probably things people do by exploiting the uploader in combination with ancient evils buried in the 1.9x code lying around) and they don't really seem to take the new PHP version well. I'll get to it one of these days after sorting out some more urgent grad school stuff.

Jesus christ that's a lot of files. Still transferring after all these months? Wow, hard to believe that's how much data that has accumulated on Acmlm's Board after all these years.

Heh 1gb aint nothing try transfering something much more bigger than a gigabyte or two a on Server transfering shouldn't take that long, especially for 1gb or 2gb of data.
It would take less than a day, but really though if he were doing that...
He would be better off bringing the board offline for a few days and let that transfer.
Configure the server and site settings and patch up any holes in his board version.
Least that way the french bot or whoever it is can't interfere while the site is offline for maintenance.

Uh... I'm pretty sure it's more than 1 GB considering how long it's taking.
