And here it is! The winning-vote mapper conversion!

Because Castlevania had very little free space in the hardwired bank, I had no choice but to expand the ROM. Patch and readme included inside the zip file. Enjoy!

Get it here!

Thank you! Yeah MMC5 conversions are actually pretty easy to do.

I'm curious as to why there are so many MMC5 hacks being done. Why (or for what purpose) would this need to be done?

Also, nice work RetroRain.

Thank you ShaneM. Trust me, the MMC5 conversions are definitely worth it. They just provide a better base ROM to work with. Being able to have 1MB each for both PRG and CHR-ROM (if the game uses it) is excellent, and plus all of the other little benefits, such as bypassing the 2K RAM limit, an extra nametable, more leeway with colors, extra sound channels, a special splitscreen mode, and more. This is the best NES mapper to use, and converting to them is very easy to do. I plan on doing more in the near future.

Agreed! I love mmc5. After my Mario multirom project, I'm going to figure out methods to utilize the exram tile attribute, which makes each individual 8x8 tile select a palette, not for a 16x16 tileset. I'm also going to look into the extra sound channels, I'm thinking on using matrixz's work, and re-edit the sound engines register locations, like I did with Zelda.

You said after your Mario project, you'll be doing those things. Are you doing those things TO the Mario project, or are you doing them to a different project? I'm assuming you meant that after you got done with the SaveRAM stuff, you'll be doing that other stuff to the Mario project. I was just curious. In any case, I wish you luck!

Dude, my Project List keeps growing and growing. I get stressed because I wish I had all of the time in the world to just keep working on my projects. It sucks having to go to a job.

Oh the All-Stars project will be finished once I'm done with all the sram work, I wont be doing anything else with that project once it's done. The exram tile attribute thingy, id like to try on another project.

Congrats on this patch also!

If you get a chance, please take a look at this Contra hack I mentioned before. It definately deserves merit and with two professionals working together on it, something reat could come out of it

Here's Trax's website where he also has the ROM disassembly notes there also.

I must ask: is it possible to have a MMC5 conversion that also supports a VRC6 chip? I want to put some of RushJet1's remixes in Mega Man 2, you know, for convience.

Wouldn't that require another upgrade to VRC6?

Beg pardon? RushJet1 makes his remixes in VRC6.

He makes them in FamiTracker, not in the actual games. FamiTracker has it's own complete emulation of the VRC6's audio capabilities, but the format is different so you couldn't even insert his remixes into any given VRC6 based game since they all use their own data formats.

Playing the NSF gives the exact same result as the MP3's...and its kinda hard to have a different sound than what a NSF Player emulates. Oh wait...emulates? I think I see the issue.

Shame.
