After a 4 year break I picked up my Super Mario Kart hack again at the end of last year. Since then I've been hard at work. Here's what's now done in Super Baldy Kart:

- 8 all new racers, graphics, driving stats etc.
- In game objects, (pipes, etc.)
- Item sprites
- HUD Graphics
- Overlay graphics, ('?' blocks etc.)
- Title screen
- New Player select screen with custom music (video link)

- New cup selection screen
- 8 new themes
- 9/20 tracks
- 2/4 Battle courses

Here's what it looks like:

Title, Player selection (custom music), and Cup selection sreens:

Battle Mode test

New Podium screen (with a palette swapping dance floor):

Here's a video of it in action - this is a little out of date.

To do list:

- 11 More tracks
- 2 Battle tracks
- Tweak drives stats
- Replace the demos
- Edit end game credits text

Let me know what you think.

Pretty awesome. I remember the first time I saw this hack back in the days. I love the new themes (moon one is the fave one with the asteriod belt)

Also the track design its smooth and nice. Definitely a cut above of what I have seen on most hacks.

Cant wait too see some more videos

Also I wonder, are the characters you added someone specifically famous, or its like parigo kart, which are your friends/people you know?

Here is a small video where I have put in some new music (10 seconds in) for when you end up in 4th place over all on the podium screen, this was based off of an old game Chuck egg.

Thanks for your kind words. These are people I know.

Nice. Will you compose all the music by yourself? :o

Oh and I wonder, is it really possible to edit the demos on the title screen?

I've managed to change the demos. What I found out is that they are controller inputs. By saving a ghost on Time Trial mode and extracting that data out of the SRM file I was able to replace the demo with my movements from the Time Trial recording. However I've not done anything further, than prove it works because until I've finished all the tracks and drivers stats there is little point. As soon as I change any of those the demo will be messed up

Nice. It must be something like SMW title screen.

Anyway, cant wait to see some more screens or vids

So this track is unique, as a concept. It's based on check points and not laps.

I've not seen it in any other SMK hacks to date.

Nice. I had an idea like this back before, but I didnt do it because it was going to be just a simple spiral, seems like you circumvented this pretty cleverly.
Nice job

We have one like that in Epic Racers. Yours look much better, though.

8 themes, now with 8 music tracks One thing I've learnt is that zsnes is no go for testing music. This video was captured using snes9x

Let me know what you think of the tracks, what works and what you feel doesn't work so well? I think there is a still some volume levels to be levelled out as some are louder than others. Overall I'm quite happy for now.

I remember seeing this hack ages ago. Good to see it's back in action.

The 1-Lap checkpoint track track is also interesting. Where is the starting line located?

The start-finish line sits level with the wall above the 4 jumps at the bottom left.

A long time in coming here is a update: https://youtu.be/vp6iO08QYWs (Watch in HD)

Comments and feedback welcome.

The hack is so close to being done, and I will explain how I updated the racers victory tunes as promised soon.

The only big thing left to figure out is the title screen music as it seems to contain some N-SPC initiation code. So I'm slowly de-compiling and commenting it...

What's done:

- 8 themes (Tiles sets, music, backgrounds, "3D objects")
- 20 Tracks
- 4 Battle courses
- 8 Drivers (graphics, stats/ attributes and victory tunes)
- Credits
- All demos
- Start/ End race tunes
- Fonts (large and small)
- All Text
- Podium

To do:

- Probability sets
- Title and Podium music
- Game over music
- Refine tracks/ AI/ Object placement
- Refine cone graphics
- One more player tune

Thanks, not long now I've worked out how to change the title music, and the main tester Griddattack is doing a great job at testing for me. Once he's done and I make any changes based on his feedback and release it for all to test! It's just getting the skill balance right now so the game is fun, challenging but not frustrating. Looking forward to seeing what people make of it.
