I am actually very grateful for your work. The reason I didn't want to post each time was I didn't want to come across as spamming/I didn't think you cared. But that does not excuse that. Sorry.
I am NOT just into getting stuff. In fact, I recently made Pokemon Green from hacking Blue and an SMB1 hack FDS with 2 games in one. I'll add them on this forum soon and you can see the quality of my work as proof. The reason I came to you was I thought that it would ruin a save in the sense that the player would not be able to continue because of that. But I had no idea that you felt "used". I apologize for that. ____________________ At the end, when the day is over, the only one left to face is yourself. Have you been true to yourself and made the most of your day? |

No need for apologies, i understand.
The sram hack is not perfect by any means. Its pretty much an auto/saver. If there was enougj empty ram registers, then it probably would be able to contain an actual save function. Everything is practicly within sram, and all im doing is setting commands wether or not to allow the sram to wiped under certain conditions. But im pretty much done with that hack now, its as good as it will get from me. Anyone whos willing to go further with my work, is fine by me. |

Looks like I need to check PPU of both the original and hacked versions. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

I've never actually sat down and played this hack beyond a couple of stages. I cleared the metroid + saving hack by snarfblam....man what amazing work.....that hack runs flawlessly. If I ever found something not right with the mario sram hack (or any hack for that matter) I'd nicely mention the flaw to the author being careful to thank him for the amazing free work and mention that if he's too busy to fix it that's no problem. If the author is too busy I would just research and fix it myself or make my own hack that does the same thing from scratch.
This work is amazing regardless. Even if it's not perfect it gave me some great ideas and made me realize some great ways to improve what I thought were games that couldn't possibly be improved upon. I love infidelity's work everything he does is an improvement and very original (snarfblam too, also tomaitheous). These guys are what inspired me and gave me some great rom hack ideas. A great idea and working proof of concept hack are better than 1000 common hacks. Rom hacking takes a lot of time and effort, sometimes you can go back and improve on your old hack and fix things. When I started rom hacking I actually started by fixing broken elements in other people's mostly completed work that had bugs since around...2006. Really people should be thankful this stuff got done at all, and even more thankful infidelity was nice enough to release it for free. ____________________ http://16bitgamer.forumotion.ca/ |

@infidelity
I've made use of your SRAM patch in my hack, am I free to release an IPS patch publicly of my hack if I credit you on your SRAM part? ____________________ At the end, when the day is over, the only one left to face is yourself. Have you been true to yourself and made the most of your day? |

I just realized the game doesn't save how big mario is. Did you run out of sram room? I'm curious what sram range you used.
*edit* answered the second question reading the first post heh. ____________________ http://16bitgamer.forumotion.ca/ |

$7FFB is infact used by the game. I think it in world 8, so that spot is no good.
Believe me, if it was a definite unused sram register, id've used it. |

Posted by infidelity Darn you world 8. I guess it's not possible to expand it to 16k of sram. Sram bankswitching haha. I played up to world 3 and I noticed after loading or clearing a world it starting pooping out around 3 consecutive n-cards. Just read the nesdev mmc3 guide, only goes up to 8k prg ram, poop. I guess I'll just look into overwriting some ram area of something I care less about like score or number of coins. I'll also look into disabling the n-cards completely. ____________________ http://16bitgamer.forumotion.ca/ |

Convert the rom to mmc5 for sram swapping. :-/ |

Posted by infidelity Smeh, I'd rather just use sram areas for things I don't care about like number of coins and points. Did you post anywhere exactly which sram area is used to store what? Maybe in a readme? ____________________ http://16bitgamer.forumotion.ca/ |

Posted by DrakonPosted by infidelity I noticed a few times you asked questions that can easily be found by doing some reading. Why not try reading his Notes.rtf file that came with the patch? ____________________ At the end, when the day is over, the only one left to face is yourself. Posted by shanemPosted by DrakonPosted by infidelity I did read it briefly, found it a bit confusing, figured he could just sum it up quickly. If he's too busy that's fine just ignore the question. I can always hunt down the values myself. Infidelity seems like the type of guy who wouldn't mind posting that answer. However after reading the first post on your threads for your hacks I could see you weren't into that sort of thing which I avoided those questions for your hacks. I'm not the sort of person to hound someone with a question. If he doesn't reply to it I'll just assume he doesn't feel like answering and I won't ask again. *edit* Just checked the rtf again it doesn't specify what info is saved at what address. I sat down and figured it out myself, let's see if I'm right: 7FFC = mario lives 7FFD = luigi's lives 7FFE = world register 7FFF = some sort of interesting flag (saving and loading) k, I don't care about luigi I'll just use 7FFD to store the state of mario. ____________________ http://16bitgamer.forumotion.ca/ |

@Drakon
That's fine. I was just trying to help out. You see, if you read my last post on Pokemon green and the one by that Miller person, you'd see why I get agitated by questions such as Miller's. (The user named Carl Miller). EDIT: I just rethought this and realized that I should have sent this in a PM to Drakon...sorry Infidelity for wasting space with this last post. There is no way for me to delete it. It was bad on my part not thinking it through. ____________________ At the end, when the day is over, the only one left to face is yourself.
