I am proudly presented my company's 7th anniversary of the revised rom hack of Super Mario Bros. 1 has been released. SMB Extended is originally Afterworld 8 version 2.0. This game has SMB2J Items, Hurt Blocks, and plays up to 13 worlds.

In addition since my partner failed to provide me new graphics and coding, the game is the final version. There will be no more revisions afterwards. 99% of the game is bug and glitch free.

Not if the graphics but music is also used and is from the SMB1 hack Mushroom Nightmare. Graphics made by Googie in 2006.

Downloads are available in either website since it has the same package files. I wonder if Board 2 links work since my webpage link got rejected by RHDN for some reason.

Download (Board 2)

Enjoy my 7th anniversary hack!

I remember seeing the video on You Tube, I'll be playing this tonight. Wow how the years flew by when it comes to ROM Hacking.

I'm going to be honest here. As someone that has played roughly 80% of all public SMB ROM hacks at the time I'm writing this, I did like how the hack was done, especially with replacing the repeat stages (such as 5-3). However, I was not too thrilled with seeing the remade levels based on Super Mario Bros. Deluxe's VS mode, as when they are first seen in World A (10), the player has already smashed their way through some challenging levels, and except for the original courses featuring the spikes (re-skined coins that grant points if they disappear when you touch 'em and get killed), these are really large drops in difficulty. Also, try not to go too chaotic with the spike placements or long pits that Mario can just barely miss. 9-1 being just one level was very much had little payment value, as it wasn't the SMB2J World 9 (not counting its 9-4 with the Japanese text).

My recommendation, if you'd like to, would be to (somehow) expand the SMB ROM so it allows a total of 18 worlds (therefore ending at world H), and compile up every level from SMB and SMB2J, reorganize each level by difficulty (alike how Vs. Super Mario Bros. did it), and place them into the game in a new order. With this, SMB2J's 8-4 becomes H-4, while the original SMB's 8-4 becomes either F-4 or G-4 incase you want to place the seventh castle from SMB2J into the semifinal world. Any empty slots would be filled in with original levels designed without any additional add ons other than what SMB2J did, I feel (IMO) it would help to make the hack seem like Nintendo would have created it themselves before SMB3 ever came out.

But otherwise I do like your idea to build upon existing levels and placing in the enhancements from SMB2J, and if you think what I've provided above is a good idea and could work, I can assist with ordering the levels.

@Superjustinbros World H you say! Depending how many rooms it can handle, I don't think it can carry on past 20-3F which is the overworld attribute. Any other rooms are available and the rom don't have much space left unless I need to figure it out to insert $4000-4FFF slots. Luckily, it didn't before the final product.

It's possible to duplicate 20-3F rooms starting at World A but I haven't started attempting the code yet and Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels did coded it and adding levels like World A-2 to a used 40-5F room slots. That means expanding the Warp Zones (in SMB1 format) can be harder to handle too if used cause I activate it whenever the player touches the certain world.

If it could possibly help, Dr. Floppy of Romhacking.net has posted a MMC1 expansion of SMB. It expands the rom's size, so it could be used to rearrange SMB's levels and incorporate most, if not all of SMB2J's levels.

For more ideas, I feel like Worlds 1-4 should be all the original SMB (but with some minor Lost Levels stuff), Worlds 5-B(12) are a mashup of both SMB's final four and SMB2J's first four worlds, and from World C(13) to World F(16), the game becomes pure SMB2J, with C-1 being Lost Levels' 5-1. I know I had mentioned the game would go up to World H, but I forgot 8+8 was 16, not 18, since I was thinking of 9+9. ^^;

Red Piranha Plants shouldn't appear until World 9, and advancing Hammer Bros are incorporated in World C.

The warp rooms could be laid out like this:

World 1-2 > Worlds 2, 3, or 4.
World 4-2 > Worlds 5, 6, or 7 for the underground warp zone, Worlds 8, 9, and A for the aboveground warp zone. (Doing this will nullify the Minus World trick)
World A-2 > Worlds B, C, and D.

Maybe your hack was rejected for having original code due to you shifting data? Use XDelta for the main patch and you'll get a much smaller patch which don't have copyrighted data. Maybe try submitting again with the main patch in xdelta format. I have had to submit most Sonic hacks there in XDelta format as Sonic hackers are fans of shifting data around.

What the? I never started RHDN submission yet. And I was too busy with other things like ummmm... work. And RHDN does reject submissions from links come from Google Sites.

Oh I misread your post. You said your weblink got rejected from RHDN. Not your hack.

Correct MathUser2929, the weblink which is Google Sites will be rejected from RHDN, but that is why I upload it on Webs.com to post a submission link. RHDN staff does check downloads to make sure it's approved. Some Japanese weblinks will also be rejected because some can't get through their hard drive.

http://www.bwass.org/bucket/index.php

This is one of the reccomended sites that appear somewhare on RHDN. You can use it to upload screenshots, zips, and txt files. You just have to make sure you have a filename that isn't already on use on that site. I don't know how long they leave the files up there but it will be long enough for your file to be uploaded to romhacking.net. Since it allows direct links for all the files that's what I use for my files when I submit a hack.

Thanks MathUser2929 but webs.com is fine. I don't know if they take links from the Dropbox folder so I rather not risk it.

I haven't tried the Board 2 uploader links to RHDN so I'll try it next time.

I noticed the title screen says 1.0 while the download says 2.0. So which is it?

Edit: http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/1028/ Your hack is now on romhacking.net. Feel free to edit it if you wanna change the info on the page.

That's because Afterworld 8 was a previous title so the original series immediately jump to World A while SMB Extended is made from scratch. I did call it Afterworld 8 version 2.0 but the game title no longer calls it when the level starts from World 1 and all the way to World D.

@XTTX, thanks! The project lasted all summer while during the fall is the beta-testing.
