And BTW I just started yesterday making maps too using 1200 by 1600 dot screencaps as raws.
reduzing to 25% and pasting together.

So far done:
- Lantern cave
- Kakariko small cave (missing one part as I just restarted the game and no bracelet yet).
- Kakariko big cave
- Guardhouse first floor.
- Village Church.
- Kakariko Loot room (you with 4 bombs & 5 arrows and 2 rupees).
- Shop left of Loot Room

Next:
- Finishing Guardhouse
- the 4 Light world dungeons (and misc caves).

Do you want the maps and raw stuff?

It is interesting for you to make maps. Keep doing them, and when they are finished, you can publish them normally. So I will get them then.

I just use a different approach. Decode the game via hex first and print screen from Hyrule Magic directly. Then paste together in excel (better navigation possible according to the big size of the overworlds). Second will be the dungeons, third is the misc (houses, caves etc).

I know nothing about HEXing and this method works quite well too...
Oh the joy when it's completed.

Anyway here is map of Guardhouse first floor (click to download bigger version)

I also have the map without the text boxes.

This is looking great. Reminds me of that guide about Parallel Worlds with all those dungeons maps. Maybe these maps are quite neccessary for players with no orientation, since the maps in the game were removed, because of their bugged nature.

Thank you.

Yeah that was the guide I spoke of when I was talking about the heart pieces.
And I think Ice World world map is most important (finding the Dead End was somhow always hard ;D). I now have heart piece location list, but gotta double check it for needed items).

Dungeons are now easy to navigate thanks to you. I think only one where I used map was in one room of Darunia's Cavern where for some reason I did not find the correct block to push ( I think it was the Big Chest or fake Big Chest room).

I'll really start making the world maps at mid June when my summer vacation starts, others are probably done or atleast screen captured by then.

Decided to go with textless maps (without the two yellow pop-up boxes seen on the map).

The boxes are still screen captured and saved if needed later.

-------------------------

So far I have now finished:

- Lantern cave
- Village Church in Light World
- Kakariko Loot Room
- Kakariko shop (next door from Loot Room)
- Kakariko big caves (the ones that go from Kakariko to Guardhouse).
- Guardhouse first floor

Almost finished:

- Kakariko small cave (missing part that I need bracelet to access).

Raws ready for assembly:

- Guardhouse Wine Cellar
- Guardhouse Prison Upper Floor
- Guardhouse Prison Lower Floor
- Guardhouse Cellar rooms (the 2 rooms that lead to Sewers).

Next:

- Guardhouse Sewers
- Church Back area
- Rest of Kakariko
- Random Light World overworld map parts while collecting heart pieces and stuff
- Misty Woods
- Lost Woods
- Zora area
- Mines
- Basicly all important parts I can access before second dungeon.

That's nice. So basically you are doing this by screen capturing while playing? I'm assuming with sprites and other layers turned off. Gluing this together manually seems like a lot of work, specially when in a big room.

Yes.
I play with ZSNES with 1600 by 1200 resolution.
I'll then screen capture and resize the image in Windows 7 MS Paint to 25%, and then copy paste together.

For rooms I turn of layers 3 and 5
If the room has openable or movable sprite thing like the item chest or ornament shelf to access the sewers I'll also capture image with only layer 3 turned off.
For text boxes I capture image with only layer 3 on so I get the text and text box on black background.

So far not too bad max 9 pieces per room needed so far (twice) others have been 2 pieces and may be one extra for the chest.

I also add permanent and key holding enemies to the pictures always in same position facing down.

---------------

Then I need your opinion on one thing: the orange and blue pegs.
Should I add them to the maps all down, all up or oranges down + blues up?

Regarding the peg bumps. By default it is always blue up and brown down. This is how it is always displayed in the game editor. However, you might have some problems with that, since some areas can only be accessed when blue is down. And will be screen captured when down.

So I would suggest this default, blue is up and brown is down, of course if it is possible to make it this way.

Other problem can be the flashing floor in Impa's Ways, probably would work to put the emulation speed to very very slow, to capture the red floor.

Adding begs to be up or down is just matter of copy paste, so no problem there.
And I too think brown down, blue up is the most natural way, so that's the way I shall go.

If I don't manage to capture flashing floor I just draw it, but I think pressing print-screen captures the exact frame on display.

Actually most most worried I'm about the waves as they don't stop when you press start to bring up the menu screen, but I think I can copy/paste around that too.

I'll post link to the first patch of maps when I finish Guardhouse later today when I get home (I only need to capture sewers and than assemble which should take less than hour).

Next patch after that probably on Tuesday.

--------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

All maps so far:

http://www.mediafire.com/folder/k5xfmxc1ayt3g/TEMP

Missing Guard house prison levels (will assemble them tomorrow) and part of Kakariko Big cave.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Edit 2: Finished Guardhouse. Upped to same folder.

Watcha ya'll think.

The first time I actually see the sprites and opened chests in the maps, since they are only purple dots in the editor. Good to know that you've decided to make maps for the game, specially by using this long process. But it is worth it in the end, since my maps wont include sprites.

The opened chest can be easily pasted over with closed ones )I have those sprites saved too).

The sprites I leave are so you can easily see:
- Enemies that you can't kill.
- Where to get which item.
- What certain pots have in them.

Is it worth the work? YES! Besides I'm bored.
OCD for win.

Off to work now, and I shall try to capture second dungeon or parts of the over world map today.

Hiya,

Im playing this hack and I really love it..
Im stuck however and I cant seem to find an answer anywhere

I finished 3 dungeons, 3rd I didnt get an Item, said I had to go back to church and the dude tells me to go kill draegor..
So I go to his castle, remove the flashing thing and enter..
then I can only move up 2 rooms and kill the enemies but the cracked wall on the right cant be opened with a bomb .

Do I have to go somewhere else or do something different??

Thanks in advance, Flutz

You need to go back to the 1st room and place a bomb there (also on the right), the upper room (second room) is a trick (a dead end).

Puzzledude I don't know what exactly you did to screw up the save feature in your hack.
Its higly annoying when you have to start all the way from the beginning and loose whatever items if you die.
The hack is nice but please fix the save feature in you're hack otherwise I don't feel like playing through this with save states. :|

What do you mean? The game was tested multiple times on various emulators and consoles and it saves normally. It saves just like the original game. Even saves on real cart.

First srm - after obtaining the sword1 from uncle
Second srm - after rescuing Zelda
Third srm - after moving the Mantle
Fourth and fifth srm - after rescuing Zelda to the church
sixth srm - after beating Draegor (the only overworld srm)

When you stop playing, press Select and choose Save and quit, to save at one of the above points. (You can not save, if you dont reach the upper points). After Zelda is rescued to the church, you can save anytime.

I don't know where you are in the game. But it is impossible to save before obtaining the sword1 from uncle (Alttp game is hardcoded this way). However, in the Remodel, reaching the uncle is a lot lot easier, than in original Parallel Worlds.

I made the rout to the uncle as short as possible. You need to get the lamp, go through the cave system, arrive in the guardhouse, go downstairs into interrogation room and get the sword1 from uncle, to make it to the first save. (not possible to make it earlier on Parallel Worlds locked rom, since this would mean moving the uncle).

I have the original on 1 cart and remodel on 2 different carts, never had problems with saving.

If you are playing on real cart are you sure your cart's battery is not dead?

Anyway on other note: My 2 week holiday started today, so I'll continue making the maps.
