There are quite a few genres of games that I like. Some, not so much. Discuss them here!

I seem to like the Xbox Live Arcade games. Games like... Geometry Wars, Super Meat Boy, N+. So that's two genres, platformers and shooters. I loved Gradius 3 for SNES when I was a kid. The Bit-Trip games are pretty fun, too. First person shooters are amongst some of my favorites too because of games like Portal and Unreal Tournament 2004

I don't really like too many RPG's anymore, though I'll play them to get the story out of it. I've often been known to use cheat codes just to bypass all the tedious tasks like grinding. MMO's are definitely not my favorite since it's basically a regular RPG without the story! The work that needs to be done seems to be multiplied exponentially to even get anywhere. There's too much to know about a given game than I care to know.

What about you guys?

I miss the days of good platforming games. Super Mario 64, you are my god.

I am so fucking sick of all this Cooking Mama and Fashion Designer and Virtual Pets #342 crap. Show me some real games, dammit. Something that takes some goddamn skill to play.

Action/Adventure, platformers, puzzlers, and RPGs hold their place in my library. Always have, and probably always will.

I hate shooters, with very few exceptions.

Nothing beats classics like Mario, Kirby, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, or Tetris.

I love RPGs and RTSes, particularly Starcraft. On the other hand, I can seldom stand FPSes; they seem so dull in comparison to the intensity of an RTS match or the enthralling plot of an RPG.

Also, Cooking Mama is pretty fun.

I've been less inclined to use my brain in the capacity of strategy games, I seem to more fully enjoy a game through its visual and musical aspects. I like a game that challenges my reaction time, albeit once in a while. Games like Guitar Hero/RockBand, or a minimum weapons use run in Arcade mode in Gradius 3. I also love racing games. Grid on Xbox 360 is amazing to me.

I also hear that Catherine is a pretty unique game, in terms of Genre.

Pretty much this to a T. I was playing some Super Mario Sunshine yesterday, in the hopes I might finally beat that game completely. On my last two attempts the game seemed to have an irreversible save glitch about midway through. :/ Despite that it's one of the lower rated Mario games iirc, I like what they did with it.

I've more or less abandoned SoM for now though, as the battles were getting a bit on the difficult side and I don't really feel much like level grinding lately.

I tend to enjoy any game you can jump, so that you don't have to walk around a pebble every five minutes.

The Assassin's Creed series is a nice change of pace in modern gaming though.

What is annoying, is how about 3 out of 4 releases seem to be part of the shooter genre.

Also. RPGs. Some of them are nice, but I'm pretty fond of the Tales of series.

I mostly enjoy RPGs, some RTSes and a few turn-based strategy games as well as scrolling shooters (which are a significantly more tractable investment in terms of time). On the other hand, I positively detest the offensive dullness of your average FPS as well as most versus fighters (although the Touhou brawlers are quite entertaining at times if only for the cuteness).

Action/Adventure games/RPGs like StarTropics, Super Mario Sunshine, etc.
Arcade
FPSs
Multiplayer
Platformers
Puzzles/Strategy
RTSs that don't last 2+ hours

Sandbox games, in general, are very entertaining. As long as there's not some very dull, repetitive, tedious work, I'll enjoy the game. I've been hooked on to Minecraft as if it were heroin.

Many racing games just don't last long for me. Midnight Club: LA Remix wore out after six races into the story. However, the Grand Theft Auto titles kept me going because I felt there was little repetitiveness and that you were always aiming for more; but it wasn't re-racing a set of tracks over and over until you claimed enough goods. There is always something for you to do.

If there's an RPG that involves walking that takes so long to do with interesting gameplay far and more than few with nothing interesting around, then it'll bore me a bit.

Most definitely.

That's it for now...

GTA isn't really a "racing" game... is it?

Grand Theft Auto is a "car game". I've called any game where you control vehicles "car games" as a kid. It's not necessarily a racing game.

Games like TrackMania can be considered racing games since you're always racing ghosts/clocks to complete a course. Also, I loved the shit out of RC Pro Am.

So yeah, Racing games, and also Party Games. When family/friends come over to play, it's Wii time.
