Spicy foods. Are you a wuss? Do you put pure capsaicin in your apple jacks?

I'm right in the middle. I can handle hot wings, but I prefer medium. To me, I think that there's a certain level of spiciness that one should have in a food to still be able to enjoy the flavor of the food itself. I don't like the spicyness to overpower it. So if I'm eating something spicy, all I'm worrying about is how my mouth is burning like a motherfucker and not on the food. So, i'm less inclined to eat spicy foods.

There is a level beyond which spiciness is just penance of sorts, but I found that I generally can keep up with people from ethnicities that traditionally have spicy cuisine as far as being comfortable with things goes. Indian food is probably my favourite single cluster, so gradual acclimatization by means of that might partially explain it.

...Pure capsaicin... in Apple Jacks...

Okay, now I'm going to have to try that.

Fuck you, KP. Fuck you.

When I was younger I was toward the higher end of the spectrum. There was this one local Chinese restaurant that carried 'super spicy kung-pao chicken' and I'd get it every time. Then I would proceed to sweat, my nose would run, and I would start to tear up by the end.

I think you hit it on the head with your statement though; there's a certain level of spiciness before the sensation of spice just dominates the flavor entirely. At or below that level is best for me, now.

There needs to be a standardized way to measure the level of capsaicin in food.

I like it spicy, but I don't like it "burning" in my mouth. I love texmex food.

I generally will enjoy spicy food if there's a flavor payoff. For example, I really enjoy the flavor of habanero peppers, and enjoy sauces and other foods flavored by it, even if it is pretty damn hot. On the other hand, I don't really like the flavor of jalapenos, so I tend to steer clear of them and foods flavored by them.

In general, I can withstand a pretty decent level of spiciness in food. I dunno if it's just me or if a lot of restaurants have really weak "hot" sauces for their wings or otherwise, but most of them don't even begin to phase me. There is one place around here that has a couple sauces that are designed to inflict pain, though. They're a wings joint, and if you can eat 16 of their hottest wings they'll put your picture on their wall. The sauce is called the wall sauce. To get on the wall you can't drink any fluids or other foods while you're eating the wings. I should mention that there is absolutely nothing enjoyable about this sauce. It is pure pain. In the times I've tried it, just getting it on my lips caused me considerable agony.

Hotter the better. I like it when it's so hot other people complain they can't taste anything for how hot it is. I don't find that to be true, I find the spicer, the even more diverse the flavors are, and I love it when less spicy or even sour flavors are mixed in on the same dish. I have no problem sorting between different hot sauces on the same food (jalapeno, srircacha, white pepper and so on).

I regularly stock my fridge with sriracha and keep a shaker of white pepper around always.

I hate that most restaurants do not have truly spicy food, even on Indian restaurants, you have to just about beg for them to bring anything that is truly spicy because they pussy it down so much for whites.

Hot and sour flavors mixed... That seems really good. There are certain chicken wing sauces that I find to be amazing for those qualities. Just the perfect amount of tangy taste to go with the spiciness. I'd say that hot wings are above my threshold for spicy foods if just for the tangy-ness that goes with it.

Frankly I've grown enough of a tolerance that I need to go past Jalapeños if I really want to experience anything really. I usually put Jalapeños on anything that it's an option.. burgers, tacos, etc

I enjoy almost all spicy foods, even if my tongue and lips feel as if they are on their last legs. The spicy foods I've eaten, which inlcude but most definitely are not limited to jalapeños, habaneros, and hot wings off the top of my head (and probably many others) all tasted well enough for me. Old Mill's Eye Poppin' Kettle Corn is another great favorite.

Flamin' Hot snacks are barely even spicy to the point that I don't feel a thing. I remember eating them and thinking otherwise many years back.

We usually had some awesome cheese dipping "sauce" (or something like that) that was wonderfully delicious. One time, jalapeños were blended in, and spicy beef was added also. I liked it, but others were quite scared to take another bite.

I'll just assure anyone that the fire department is ready to roll.

Takis. These snacks are awesome. I think I just might head to Walmart and get some. Sooo good.

These aren't that spicy, but enough to perfectly balance with the lime flavor in it. Just the way I like my spicy foods.

Do yourself a favor, go to Walmart and pick yourself up a bag. They're around 2 bucks for a good sized bag. They're so damn addicting; my mouth is watering just thinking about them.

aw yeah

this is the kind of spice I prefer, where it burns you and fills your throat with chile goodness but the flavors of the food still come through in your mouth
shiracha sauce for instance does the opposite of this for me and just burns out my face, muddling everything it touches

Where do you get this stuff? I'd be willing to try it out. I've yet to find an asian food importer where I live yet. There was this amazing Japanese shop that always made me smile every single time I walked in; I always find what I want. Even the spicy stuff.

I'm above average. I enjoy the burn on occasion, I won't always go for spicy food but I'll enjoy it every week or so. I have a story about hot sauce though.

There's a chain down south called "Tijauana Flats". It specializes in hot sauces, and makes the world's hottest legal hot sauce, called "Smack My Ass and Call Me Sally Chets Gone Mad". You gotta sign a waver for it. It's fucking hot, man. Imagine a Jalapeño pepper. It's literally scientifically 600 times hotter.

It's really only supposed to be to put into giant vats of chilly to make them hot as hell (just a drop, mind you), but it's funny to use as a "I bet you can't take a pin prick of this and not cry" bet. I lost, by the way. I was rolling on the ground.

My dad, however, can hold his heat. He's pretty good at that. However, he didn't think it would be THAAAT hot, so he took the bottle, turned it upside down on a porous wafer, and let it sit there for a second before taking a bite. The poor guy was running around the house grasping his face, head bright red. He chugged a gallon of milk, then went and threw up in the toilet.

So yeah, I'd recommend it!

You people are wusses! TASTE THE BURN!

I eat shit thats spicy almost everyday, wether it's Spicy wings, Spicy spices or what not. I put Banana peppers on my sub. I've eaten a red Jelepeno without water. Face it. it burns, but it's not really that hot.

EDIT: Habenero's are fucking hot.

What? Banana peppers aren't spicy at all. They can be, slightly, but they don't belong in your list of other spicy foods. Pepperoncinis are another species of peppers, similar to banana peppers, that are much more spicy. Still, they're nothing when compared to Jalepenos.

Recently my family has been making fresh jalapeno poppers with bacon and shredded cheddar cheese. They're really simple, but incredibly good.

Also, these wasabi almonds are excellent too. They have just the right amount of mouthwatering spice to them. If you can find them where you're at you should definitely pick some up.
