Golden Yoshi asked me to post this on his behalf - here is the world 1 demo to his SECOND awesome YI hack, SMW2+2. I have played through it - as have others, such as fabio and Sonicandtails, and I think we all agree that anyone who enjoys YI will enjoy this even more.

Here is the demo link:

Demo

And here are some screenies:

Enjoy, and post any comments here.

Very odd. The download link works in IE but not in Firefox for me.

Now where did I put my copy of Yoshi's Island 1.0?

Well I was able to dl it in IE (thanks BooUrns) but now it crashes once I get to the "Welcome Back to Yoshi's Island" level (when the text box pops up) (and I tried both v1.0 and v1.1 roms).

Are you sure your rom is v1.0? If the name isn't "Yoshi's Island (V1.0) (U).smc", then that's probably the reason why it doesn't work.

This goes on the American 1.0, not the Japanese or European, or the 1.1 ROM.

Try re-downloading a clean ROM, and patching.

Come on, this is getting repetitive...

Make sure it is (U) 1.0!
It will crash at that text box if it's not, so that's your key to knowing.

One way to tell the difference between a 1.0 ROM and a 1.1 ROM: The textbox fonts look different.

EDIT: I'll get a pic of the two different fonts used by the two American versions today...

Durrrrr, fixed Typo changes the link.

And yes guys, it's also stated in the read me - "Yoshi's Island (V1.0) (U).smc". You need to patch it to that, like every other Yoshi's Island hack.

That was Sweet. (So good, sweet get a capital.) I beat all the levels and the Extra with 100s. It really feels like a true sequel to Yoshi's Island: Fun, good puzzles, good difficulty curve, wide variet of levels. I really can't wait for this to be done in its entirety. Pass my comments on to Golden Yoshi for me.

This was Sweet.

It's about time to throw my comment about the hack.

It was pretty easy but I mean it in a good way. It's only World 1 after all. I had a little over 10 lives with no game overs after World 1 ended. In the original SMW2+, I could never manage to go over 6 lives because I died way too much. I had made probably 5 game overs on the first world of SMW2+ before completing it.

Also, some of the themes he used were interesting like having a level that focuses on enemies that can take Baby Mario from Yoshi and carry him away like the Bandits. Extra 1 has the most interest theme out of all the levels and I won't spoil it for you. You can find out yourself.

I'll give this a shot later on tonight, it looks pretty cool. Any YI hack'll be better than Yoshi's Story for the N64.

Ha, I agree Yoshi's story was kinda a letdown. I'l play this tomorrow and comment then, for now, I must sleep. It looks amazing from the screenshots though.

The rom was called Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (U) (V1.0) [!].smc.

There's your problem. If it has [!] or any other symbol other than (U) or (V1.0), then it won't work. You are going to have to search for a new rom for the hack to work.

Doesn't [!] mean it's a good dump?
Edit: Could the version of SNES9x have anything to do with it?

The one I'm using has [!] in the filename, and it works fine. Then again, it could also be the result of someone being careless in their file naming, so I can't say for sure which one I have.

So we need to know where he got his rom from, but we can't post rom sites. Hmm...
Also, as I said before, maybe it's the version of SNES9x I'm using? Or maybe it only works on ZSNES?
