Hello, everybody.

Let me just say that I realize that it's been quite a while since my rather flamboyant inaugural post...almost ten months, in fact. Suffice to say I've been gone from these forums for quite a while, much longer than I would have preferred, dealing with a number of "real-life" issues which have had the misfortune of rearing their ugly heads all at once over the aforementioned time period. I believe that when I last left you, I had written something to this effect...

After silently observing the amount of people who's obsession with this particular hobby ended up swallowed up by the dreaded "real life" syndrome which we all experience, and vowing not to repeat these mistakes, I made a firm decision in 2007 that I would not become a part of any ROMhacking forum until I was primed and ready to produce something substantial for the community as a whole...

And now, that day has finally come.

As I type this, I am currently sitting on a 100% complete project which I can barely wait to share with all of you.

...and wouldn't you know it, with that statement I went and jinxed myself! Because it would turn out that the so-called "100% complete project" I'd been sitting on was only about 99.1% complete..."99.1% complete" being defined as "tested and working perfectly on actual hardware, but...it looks like crap on anything except for a nice, sharp computer monitor." Not to mention that it had been brought to my attention from one of my beta-testers that a very serious error, one that I had somehow managed to overlook in about one thousand runs, had managed to slip through the cracks. Considering that getting "The Project" to work on actual hardware was a definite aspiration, and considering my rather anal-retentive attitude towards quality control, "99.1% complete" just wasn't good enough, no matter how much time and effort I had already put into everything.

In essence, I found myself suddenly saddled down with a lot of work to do as well as to re-do with less than a month from my self-proposed release date for this thing. Try as I might, I just couldn't get the work done in the time I allotted myself, and the release date came and went. I continued to toil on with this thing when suddenly...if you don't mind the pun..."KaBooM!" A good portion of my life pretty much fell apart last June. I won't go into too much detail except to say that it's taken me until last December to dig myself out of the hole. Obviously, lurking around on ROMhacking forums or any forums for that matter, as well as work on "The Project" did not figure into the equation.

At least I can be thankful that full-scale data loss was not a consequence of the aforementioned events. As for what they did involve, well, I'll put it to you this way. Have any of you seen that "Star Trek: Voyager" episode titled "Year of Hell"? I think I would have rather gone through that, because what I've been through these past few months made that look like "Month of Heck". Sometimes I've actually felt like Kathryn Jameway in the last scene of that episode, preparing to fly what was left of her ship into...uh...well, go ahead and watch it, I'm not spoiling the end of that one for you all, sorry.

In any case, I've think I've finally got things somewhat back to normal now.

Having a chance to rest and reflect and look back on my first posts I realize...and this is just me being hyper-critical of myself...that I've initially come off exactly the opposite of the way I wanted to come off...like a hyperactive, overzealous nOOb with a severe case of attention-deficit disorder and with my head corked several turns into my own anus. If I did come off like that, I sincerely apologize. I just have a tendency to get over-excited when I'm stoked about something like this project I've been working on for ages, and it tends to come through in my writing...

Oh, yes. That. "The Project".

So what, may you ask, is "The Project" that I've been keeping under wraps for some time now? Well, I'm still pretty secretive about it at this point, but I can tell you this much...it's a ROMhack. Go figure, right? A ROMhack, or as I prefer to go against tradition and call it, a "ROM refurbishment" of an NES game. ("Hack" always makes it sound like a "bad" or "evil" thing to be avoided, at least to me.) That's all I'm going to say right now...what game it is that I'm working on and what exactly I've done to it shall, for now, remain the subject of mystery. No official release announcements and/or dates to be immediately forthcoming yet either, as I've learned from the past ten months that even the most well thought out plans can be laid to waste in an instant. Bottom line...everyone will know of it's release the day it appears on the front news page. I will make a stop on the "Personal Projects" page to talk about it in detail sometime before it's released...I just want to make sure it's wrapped up and ready to go with a pretty little bow on top before that happens. Just waiting for my "testing supplies" to be delivered so that I can make the last of what will hopefully be the final changes.

In any case, I'm back, and hopefully here to stay for a while. It is my hope that I can eventually become a viable part of this community, be as helpful as I can when I can, not make too much of a fool of myself, and actually contribute something worthwhile to the ROMhacking community as a whole...for real this time. I really do have something nice up my sleeve which I believe that a lot of you will thoroughly enjoy, something I've spent a great deal of time perfecting and something I do feel that I've placed a rather unique spin on. So until that comes to fruition, well wishes and see you all out there.

Cheers and good vibes to all.

Welcome back, and sorry that I won't reply with anything quite approaching your post in terms of length.

What you are saying there sounds pretty interesting, although I'm sure there are plenty of people who would love to call you out on associating the term "hack" with "bad/evil things" (something that could be argued to be an act of drinking media kool-aid, seeing how its usage originally was neutral to positive and only sensationalist reports came to associate it with "criminals breaking into online banking"). I shall be looking forward to seeing some concrete information on what you are up to.

Actually I seen hacking and "hack" being used in more positive context, or at least in context of "put together fast" (which can be a bad or good thing, but defiantly not illegal).

When I see hack used in that context, it's very rarely positive Except maybe in the sense of "at least we got it out on time"...

I remember when there was a big fuss on SSRG (or one of the Sonic hacking sites) about the term hack, in the end it meant nothing though... but whatever the project is, it sounds interesting enough.

Kaboom, I actually enjoyed reading your post. That is rare for an internet forum.
