Hi, I am Manu89, the italian creator of Mega Man Regeneration, a Mega Man 2 hack in progress. I am finishing all the modifies of my hack, but I have some difficulties to make the most important changing that i wanted: I want to change the sprites of the eight robot master into Doc Robot's sprites, with the movements that the last have in Mega Man 3. Is there anyone available for a little collaboration?

Are you going to do it from scratch? If not, use Tile layer pro (I know it's suggested alot, but, that's what I like too) to copy the tiles one by one into Megaman 2, adjust colours by finding the hex values, then that should be it.

Now reprogramming them is a little harder.

You will also have to adjust all of mm2's bosses x/y tile placememts, because simply placing his gfx over the bosses gfx, they wont be aligned properly.

I have total inexperience in sprite's changing (sprites and scrolling are the only things that i couldn't modify). A my collaborator modifeid some tiles in the stage select, but he said me that he is not very able to change sprites. Do you know some hacker very able in this? I thinked to Chiko (he is always very quick to realize hacks and we know it) but i didn't found his contacts; morever, he is japanese and the comunication would be hard. Anyway, how much time is necessary to change the several sprites?

I discovered that the robot's sprites don't have the same number of tiles, and I don't know how to resolve the problem (I can't apply the tiles of Doc Robots because the space is limited, especially for "slim" robots like Metal Man). May someone help me doing these modifications?

your going to run into issues here. your going to have to make room for the doc robot sprites, your also going to have make rom in hex for the new sizes. this also means you will have to manualy edit the hexvalues of all the bosses gfx. this is alot of work. your also going to have to edit the pointer values that point to where the bosses gfx are, cause obviously MM2's bosses range in different sizes. sorry to overwhelm you, but your looking at alot of work.

Do you know a hacker free in this period? I haven't the capacity for this work. The sprites' changing is the most important modification that i wanted to apply to the rom.

Since I have for the time no inspiration for Kuja Killer's hack, I have decided to help on manu89's request.

Manu, you wants that I redesign the Doc Bots, so I will need concept art drawing and the size limitations for the actual sprite in pixels.
I have to force myself back into spriting, otherwise my skills will rost.

You don't have to force yourself Thanatos-Zero. You can draw sprites and reassemble them using Matriz's CSA Editor. Like if I draw Proto Man/Blues from Mega Man 9 and would not fit to Mega Man 4. I have to draw him and reassemble the sprite pieces.

I should have told you this manu89 a long time ago but my personal life kills me.

I'm not so great how many thinks. There are sprite designers, which are in skill unmatched.
Zan Sidera, Robert Oakes and BlackBeltDude are true masters in making sprites.

Compared to them I am still a novice.

You don't need to send me the ROM. I will upload the spritesheet via Imageshack in bmp format here on Board2. All what you need to do from this point is to insert the sprites from the uploaded spritesheet into the ROM.

For the creation of the sprites I still need some concept art from you and the limitations of the sprite.

I don't understand exactly which informations you want. I want to substitute robot masters' sprites into Doc Robots' sprites, but I don't know absolutely how insert the sprites from a spritesheet into the rom. I don't know anything about this argument. I only know that the dimension of robot master's sprites is different from Doc Robot's.

ya cant put a image into the rom ...that's fan game projects, not rom hack.

ya gotta use either YY-CHR or Tile Layer Pro and do it all by hand drawing the stuff in or copy-pasting in the tiles from another rom into that with either one of those 2 tile editing programs.

I already tried it Kujakiller, and It's the one reason so I know that the sprite's dimension of robot masters in Mega Man 2 is different from Doc Robot's in Mega Man 3. I need someone able to resolve this problem. I know that it's possible because in several hack i saw it and for example in Rockman No Constancy (If i don't remember badly) the dimensions of weapon's tiles are diferent from original game.

Thanatos, maybe I wasn't very definite. I don't want to create new sprites, but use the normal sprites of the Doc robot's and replace the Robot Mater's sprites of Mega Man 2 with them. Are you capable to do it? Do you need the rom to do it?

Ah... I got it. You want that I trim the Doc Bot sprites to the size of the Rockman 2 Robot Masters, so they can be replaced perfectly.
Now I have another question.
Each sprite has a programmed field in which they can be drawn. Okay what are the sizes of each field in which the sprites of the Robot Master can be drawn?

Ehm... Kuja Killer explain it to him. I don't know the technical details what was is called.

The only thing I need are the size limitations.

im sorry i cant help specifically with mm2. I have zero knowledge or know where anyhting is located in mm2 reguarding sprite frames, x/y positions for each tile, sprite color, and tile id numbers for them which is the main thing you'd have to change.

Im only experienced with mm3 and mm4.
