I can't believe that there aren't any threads about this yet. From what I have read, the 3D effect is amazing, though you have to be positioned in a "sweet spot" in order for it to work. The good news is that if you're sitting in a position where said sweet spot is impossible, there's a 3D slider which will allow you to shut it off.

Other improvements over the DS/DSi line are Gamecube (maybe even better) quality graphics, along with an analog "slider" (It's a disk that you slide around instead of a joystick). There's a digital movie download service in the works. Also it boasts the ability to take 3D photographs.

Some of the games that were on the e3 floor to demonstrate are, but are not limited to:
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Ocarina of Time 3D
Mario Kart 3D
Star Fox 64 3D
Animal Crossing
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Nintendogs +Cats
Riiiiiidge Raaaaacer
Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D

Also, this is really rough, and probably nowhere near as awesome as how the 3DS looks, but I took a screen from Kid Icarus: Uprising and turned it into one of those "cross eye" 3D images, in order to get a taste of what's to come. (It is totally easier to look at if you open it in a new window or tab.)

See trailers and a full list of the demo games here: http://e3.nintendo.com/

A'ight, I may be physically incapable of seeing "those cross eye 3D images", but where's the pic?

As for 3D photographs, aside from the constant flashes to Star Trek Voyager, me and my buddy Cearn just keep making silly jokes about having a girlfriend lift her shirt so you can take a picture of the twins.

"Aww, touch screen is on the bottom only." "What, you wanted to touch them?" "OF COURSE!"

And then there's that thing I overheard about KI:U apparently looking better than a Wii game, which strikes me as profoundly silly.

That's what happens when people say things like, "the 3DS is more powerful than the Wii itself."

Personally, I'm quite excited for this, and I'm glad Nintendo is smart enough to keep the backwards compatibility with normal DS games...meaning I can finally retire my old, fat, and blue DS. The DS has been my system of choice this past gen, so I am extremely hopeful that the 3DS will follow suit or at least be a very strong contender in the years to come.

The one thing that kinda pisses me off right about now is that I just bought a DSi XL to replace my DS Lite because the hinge is broken and flops around (I plan on getting it repaired on of these days, anyway), then I catch wind of the 3DS and immediately proceed to RAGE.

It's right under the part where I'm talking about it. Here's a direct link

Also, of course it's going to be great for taking pictures of boobs! That's like two of the reasons why I want one.

three dimensional upskirt pictures? I can see the headlines now

I'll probably just turn the depth of field to 0 since I'd probably be more annoyed by the gimmick than pleased, but who knows~
I don't care as long as I have my paper mario and star fox on a handheld

You forgot to mention this:

http://ds.ign.com/articles/109/1098405p1.html

Which is what I found the most interesting about the 3DS.

And not only that, they aren't just tech demos, they are actually going to be made and released, and they may not be just ports.

Yeah, so I'm willing to guess that some of the games presented will actually be developed, but I got a feeling some of them won't make it out to the market. I mean as much as they showed OoT 3D, the way they've been making it sound in interviews is that there's a chance it could also become a different Zelda game all together.

Just remember when the Wii came out, and all the titles that got announced that never saw the light of day. Like Project H.A.M.M.E.R. and Sadness.

It is actually possible that the Goldeneye remake may be 3DS. They say Wii only, but go to the site and look at the bottom. It says Wii and DS.

OOT is definitely being made into a fully fledged remake - it was confirmed by Aunoma at the E3 roundtable. He pledges to make the inventory better so that the Water Temple won't be so much of a hassle.

Anyway. I compiled a thread of details elsewhere, I figured it'd be a good idea to post it here too:

Release date: To be confirmed by Nintendo at their annual conference on the 29th September. Likely to be in time for the holiday season.

The Console:

- 800x240 resolution top screen, full 3D effect without glasses. Graphics equivalent to the Wii, but with better architecture and a much wider capability for various shaders and effects.

- Analog stick/slider.

- 3D camera on the back for taking photographs in 3D.

- 3D movie support, with backing from Universal, Warner Bros, Fox and Disney.

- 3D Depth slider to adjust the amount of 3D. Can be turned off completely if needed.

- Internal storage (nintendo issued a patent relating to this). Games can be installed to the console, equivalent to using a flashcart.

- Completely revamped online service.

- Game size 2gb max at launch. Will be expanded during the console's lifetime.

- Fully backwards compatible with all DS and DSi games.

Screenshots:

Metal Gear Solid 3 3DS:

Kid Icarus:

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPZIHxS6C-k

Resident Evil Revelations:

Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr3bvrvJYyo (confirmed to be real in-game graphics).

Ocarina of Time 3DS:

Super Street Fighter IV:

Starfox 64 3DS:

Pilotwings:

fuck yeah.

All of those are 100% confirmed games. Kojima has recently confirmed that MGS3D will be happening, but may not be a launch title. Super Street Fighter IV 3DS already has an official site, along with updates, and Resident Evil Revelations has been confirmed as a Q1 2011 release by capcom.

Better graphics capability than the Wii? Now that's impressive.

And they're actually doing a remake of Ocarina of Time, rather than a port? And the water temple will be less confusing? Wow. I wonder if they'll make Navi less annoying... because if they don't...

Oh God. That's who wrote it? Disregard that one then. Just know that Nintendo will be releasing the price in September.

There's stupid Kid Icarus but no StarTropics?
Then again they'd probably make it into some anime looking game if they brought it back.

Wait, a REMAKE of OoT? Well fuck, it'd better be stupidly similar to the original, or everyone will bitch.

As for the console itself, I'm syked. But I'm afraid to be syked, you know? Who knows how this could turn out, it could be a pile of crap. And I mean sure, going back and remaking original classics is all fine and dandy, but I already OWN those games. Is a 3D gimmick really enough for me to pay 60 god damn dollars for a game I already own?

I thought not.
