I searched the forums and did not find this question already asked. I am hacking Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES and I want to change the music in the game. I know the locations and all the commands for it. (i.e: 81-C0 = Length for following Notes (81 = Very Quick to C0 = Very Long)

- Can I swap the music from another Tecmo into my game? Say Tecmo NBA Basketball...

- Is it possible to use the SMB addmusic program (I doubt it but figured I would ask anyways)

- How hard will this be to do?

For the record let it be known that I lack all musical talent

Much thanks!

If Tecmo NBA Basketball has the same music format as Tecmo Super Bowl, which seems fairly likely to me, and you know the locations in that game too...

You doubt correctly. SMB Addmusic is for SMB.

- How hard will this be to do?
If "this" is "transplanting music from another Tecmo game", the answer is "shouldn't be too hard".
If "this" is "using SMB Addmusic", the answer is "in your dreams".

If you know all the commands, you could write an own compiler/insertion tool from the same source format as SMB Addmusic uses. That doesn't require any musical skill.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have no idea where the music code is in Tecmo Super Basketball at the moment. But my concern was the length of the song. If the one in game A is longer then the one for game B will this be a problem.

Ideally I wanted to put the NFL Primetime music in the game and use the notes and pitch to do it via hex but then I realized I am tone deaf and pretty much failed every music class I ever took.

As far as making my own compiler tool perhaps after my ROM is done.

I've looked around and board 2 seems to be the ONLY site mentioning this utility.

Best help I can be is Romhacking.net has a few utilities to help.

He might have mistaken it for the SMW addmusic... although I somehow vaguely recall hearing about the existence of that kind of utility for some SMB game.
