I was just wondering, what does this mean exactly ? the "winter" part of it - winter mosts 2010 ... as in by december 2010 ?? or from december 2009 ??

Im confused
Obviously not by Dec 2010 because then why would the voting close 9 months before that even occurs? Clearly then, the only logical possibility is the period of Winter spanning Dec 21 2009 to March 21 2010, which would be Winter 2010.

Actually, despite this winter having taken place mostly in 2010, it started in 2009. Winter 2010 is a designation for most people who would believe that December 21, 2010 is when winter starts this year. So, it's Winter 2009 for this Winter Mosts.

It started in 2009... but the vast majority of it occurred in 2010. It seems silly to call it "Winter 2009" if it was barely in 2009 at all.

True, but everything uses this method of terminology. Game Companies, hardware makers, software, everything. Q4 is widely accepted as the December of the year.

That's just the way it works though. If anything should be changed, it would make more sense to shift the start of the year back a month to better fit with meteorological effects and seasonal changes.
