"no header" rom i think
From the readme text:

-------------------------------------------------
Directions
Please assign to Rockman X by suitable patch software.
It's said to be Super Nintendo Entertainment System and there is a possibility that a problem happens to the time of patch.

It's always clogged without Header.
1,572,864

Please assign to a file of part-time work.
There is Header and I don't hit (1,573,376 bytes). Please assign after 512 bytes are cut off from the header in that case.

So many people play Puresabe's newest hack, while I'm just sitting here, trying desperately to actually find the hack on his website.

I'll send it to you later on tonight, but his mini hack it had me laughing.
This guy though really is good programmer, I see why many people like him as a hacker.

Uh, Mike-Tech...

FAQ:

DON'T:
  • Post ROM/warez links on the board. You are free to exchange links with others through private messages, but do not post them out in the open.

It might be the name and not necessarily a link, and even though people might already know about it, it's still leading. This has been a pretty common rule in all ROM hacking communities since I've known about them, so you should know it by now. I believe I've seen the site referred to before as well, either by you or someone else, though it was before I could do anything about it, so don't do it again. This is your warning.

I'll be bringing this to the attention of the other staff. I have the screenshot if it's needed, but in the meantime, I've removed the name of the site from this post.

Next time, just send a PM instead and if you must let them know publicly so they'll know to log in and check, do so without sharing the specific site information with everyone else. Thank you.

Probably, if you look further down in this specific forum.

To try to get this topic back on track, I'm still curious about which Mega Man game(s) is/are the most preferred to hack by everyone who is still around.

From what I've seen, it seems like Mega Man 3 has some of the most expansive modifications done to it, and is pretty commonly hacked by some of the current members here.
Not to suggest that the other games aren't touched as much, or that the hacks aren't as extensive and involved. For instance, one obvious example would be the frequently mentioned Rockman 4: Minus Infinity.

What are some of the most favorite upgrades in the different games? What are some advantages/disadvantages to each? For instance, I've read elsewhere that some of the Mega Man NES games don't use CHR-ROM, which led to RetroRain creating Megaman 2 Optimum, which converts Mega Man 2's graphics format to CHR-ROM.

Being unfamiliar with Mega Man games somewhat on a playing level, and certainly on a hacking level considering all of the experts around here who played Mega Man games like how much I played Super Mario Bros. 3 growing up, I'm interested to hear everyone's personal experiences, preferences, and hacking stories.

Great end result, it brings people back into the hacking mood and we see more progress in multiple hacks that we're all looking forward to the completions and releases of.

Based on my personal experience as well as a quick look at romhacking.net, I'd say Mega Man 2 definitely has the most hacks, closely followed by MM3 and MM5. MM1 and MM4 also have a couple, while MM6 has relatively few. MM2 saw the earliest boom of hacks, as there was a functioning editor for it pretty early, namely Visine. After some time we also got more extensive hacks of it, with changed graphics, music and altered enemies, such as RM Exile and MM Ultra, followed by many others, mostly Japanese ones.

After some time, matrixz's MegaFLE also developed with lots of features and a subsequent Windows version, making MM3-5 gaining more hacks as well. Unlike MM2, I'd say MM3 hasn't been hacked much beyond level and graphic changes. Actually, I'd say the quality of MM3 hacks are generally low compared to those of the other games in the series. Not because most of them only change levels, I don't mind that at all, but because lots of them include horrible level design, and those who don't often (in my opinion) butcher the playability anyway by increasing the HP of the enemies like 3 times (when I see a big guy like those at the end of Needle Man's stage, I expect them to die from 6 hits, not freaking 18, making them almost impossible to kill before they ram into you and do 8 bars of damage (or more; if we're really unlucky, that value has been increased as well)). With that said, there are some recent exceptions, and although incomplete, MM Odyssey proves that an extensive MM3 hack indeed is possible.

Actually, even if most people seemed to like them, I can see how my own MM3 hacks also had too much unforgiving level design, relying a lot on knowing MM3s physics perfectly (for example, in MM3, Mega Man can walk over a pit if the pit is 2 blocks wide and the next solid ground is 2 blocks down. In the other games, however, he can't).

In terms of major overhauls, MM4 undoubtedly has the most hacks, even if most of them are more or less unfinished: RM4 Minus Infinity, MM Forever and MM Ultra 2. Anandastoon's upcoming MM4 hack also looks really promising, with new emenies, bosses (including their names and sprites) and stage gimmicks, and MM: Dr. Cossack Treason's one stage demo is also worth checking out. MM5 also has some great ones, such as MM5 Indonesian Artifact, rock5easily's hacks and a few others. MM6 has unfinished Innocent and Skype, but little beyond that. Don't know about MM1, as it is my least favourite game in the series (I only beat it once I think).

With that being said, I haven't played that many hacks outside the most known and extensive ones, so my opinions could very well be biased.

Rockman Gaiden, Rockman Kai, Rockman RX & Rockman Claw are the only good hacks being made so far. People asking me on my Facebook for Rockman AF which is my project but I haven't touched it within a year. 100% maps completed but enemies not yet inserted. I'm expecting to work on it ASAP.

Hmm if you honestly feel that way check over here, I'm sorry the man had to put this on long term ice or kill the project.

Thats something I like in mega man 3 and other hacks, I wish rom hackers would push past the original story for the game.
Like you mentioned on difficulty, no rom hack should be that difficult boss wise and level wise.
If you know how the game is played and you know which certain weapons would rip right through the game.
You adjust around that and balance out everything, hard hack, but great playability.
Let me ask you this while your still here, which one of your rom hacks do you value the most ?
Once you tell me, I'll give it a run and post back later on down the road.
My hack author I prefer is infidelt and some of insect duel, other than that I don't play much of mega man hacks.
I like mega man 3 because it builds upon right after mega man 2, plus the old bosses from then come back ?
yeah longer play time, good quality, don't even need a rock buster to beat the game.
Also go check out super metroid super zero mission, even though its very challenging and daunting at times.
It sure as hell is worth it, this is what I seek out of most rom hackers.
None of them don't go the whole way to make a complete overhaul of their games.
