Thanks for the informations.
EDIT1: Okay, I got a new problem now. I have saved one music track as an NSF and tried to play it on the NEStopia, but now, it is very glitchly...what could have possibly gone wrong? P.S.: I have not added that music track in my MM3 ROM yet. EDIT2: Wait, now even the ones I have downloaded have that problem. Looks like it is NEStopia's fault then...oh well... EDIT3: Does someone know of a good JMP coding tutorial? It doesn't have to be something complicated, I just would like to know, how to create JMP coding and insert them in a ROM. |

Booyah! At long last I made Megaman 3 use DPCM samples!
The engine is a bit glitchy though and doesn't get note durations right for now, hopefully I'll be able to fix that! MegaDPCM |

Does anybody know how to manipulate/add/delete the tiles of the player sprites especially on Mega Man 6? Or where in the ROM it is located. I want to add tiles to the player sprites. (...) ____________________ |

Hello everyone. I've recently gotten back into a bit of Mega Man hacking and I'm thinking of starting a little project with Mega Man 6. So, I downloaded MegaFLE X and opened my MM6 rom and all of a sudden this annoying little error came up.
Any ideas or solutions on how to solve this? |

Posted by KCEXESounds like you're missing a Visual Basic 6.0 Common Control or two. Look for Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Common Controls from a refutable source, and install it. Hope this helps. ____________________ Sorry for the stupidity. That jerk will be dealt with in the most insane way possible. |

Okay, so I installed it, restarted my PC for it to take effect, and when I tried it again, I got the same error as before. Darn. |

Don't worry KCEXE! I (hope) have your solution! It's quite simple actually.
Have you tried running it as Administrator? From the screen shot, it looks like you have Win7, same as me, and I got the same error multiple times before. Just run it as administrator once, and you should be good for the rest of Mega FLE X's days... |

it probably tries to look for the files in "system32" instead of the actual folder with megafle.
Im on windows xp, and would always get those errors only on "fresh OS install" whenever opening programs like visualboyadvance, or other emulators, putting those files in "system32" fixes everything globally. at least for me. dont know about win 7 |

That could be it, yeah.
Mega FLEx was throwing out errors for me a while back (I emulate it using WINE since I don't run windows) and I got it working my replacing my system 32 with a fresh install. It assume it's some sort of visualbasic issues with a conflict... |

This is a question for you kuja killer.
When did you start hacking Megaman games, and getting into ASM? Where(!) did you learn all of this stuff? I replayed through Rockman 4MI, due to the new patch, and remembered you were mentioned in the credits, so you have to be pretty awesome in order to help Puresabe. Sorry if I sound nosy... It's not everyday for me to be able to "talk" with a "pro" Megaman hacker. I'm just curious... |

oh its totally fine, not nosy at all.
i started officially in 2006. I first wanted to make a hack of megaman 3 that was like a port of the gameboy megaman 3. At that time i was using matrixz's DOS version of MegaFLE before switching to normal regular windows. i dont remember if he ever even had a public "normal" megafle that time. I was a beginner like anyone else, so all i could do was just put in graphics from other games, edit the levels, and so on, no asm hacking. In a few months the first 8 levels done, 2 of the 4 doc robot levels, and 1 wily level. End of 2006 is when i completely abandonded the whole idea cause i felt like my hack was sucky, cause i didnt know how to put in megaman 4 enemies that the gameboy did, that is when i finally started learning NES's ASM. I found an extremely super long IRC log where the famous DarhkDaiz of "Mario Adventure" was teaching some people ASM doing simple little things with Mario 1, Zelda 1, and Megaman 3. After that, between end of 2006 to present, is when i started Megaman odyssey, i just picked up the asm stuff very very fast and was able to do more and more stuff everyday, it's hard to explain. -------------------------------- As for puresabe's 4 MI, yes my name was in the credits because i helped him when he first appeared in the megaman romhacking world on 2ch. the very first time he upgraded 4 MI to the MMC5 mapper like i did for my game, he did alot of it the "wrong" way, where it would only work in FCEUX and nothing else, i helped him out on how some of the registers worked, and fixed it to work with Nestopia, and other emulators. that's why i was credited for "cart information" in his credits, about the MMC5 mapper |

Posted by kuja killerThat sounds interesting. Could you please link me to that log? I would love to do some ASM hacking for my MM3 hack as well. |

kuja killer... I think that this means that you have to pick up the torch, and help all us non-ASM pros out there.
If you don't think that you are capable of making tutorials, maybe you should make a youtube video of you simply doing ASM hacking. Doesn't have to be anything special. Just record your screen or something of the sort, and add background music too it. I would like to ask this of other Megaman Hackers out there. Insectduel being another person who I would like to make tutorials for ASM. (Being that he did make that Air Meter for Megaman 4) This is just me... Tho... I'm just fine with just graphic and level editing. |

ummm im not even sure how to record my own comp screen.
I can record videos of playing a game like through an emulator's own video recording stuff, but never have tried any actual computer screen recording, i dont even know how. i once tried this program called "Xsplit" ...however it instantly gives me a Blue Screen of Death whenever i would open the program, saying that it was caused by the graphics card. im on a laptop with stupid "integrated" graphics, so it probably happened just because i dont have a REAL video card After that i immediately un-installed the program... |

I feel perhaps you are demanding a bit much of kuja, Gav. He already helps the community a lot, and to say he "has" to pick up this torch is a bit demanding of someone who spends a lot of time helping us already.
I understand that it's frustrating to see cool stuff you don't know how to do, but ASM is a very wide range of things and it isn't really the kind of thing you can just learn from tutorials. At first you want to check out and make sure you understand how the NES works, then maybe try to learn how to program simple games. http://www.obelisk.demon.co.uk/6502/ This is a good site to get started learning how things work. 6502.org is a good place as well. --- To be honest, I personally would be interested in seeing at least someone going through small disassembled pieces of code like a boss routine and adding in comments explaining what each segment does. Often I'm reduced to just changing random numbers after a register gets loaded and finding out what it does, and it'd make things much simpler to understand what different parts of the code are actually doing. |

Haha... I apologize to NARFra and you kuja killer if I sounded like I was trying to get you to do stuff. This is kinda the "first time" I had a "conversation" with a "pro" Megaman Hacker. Like I said, it's not everyday for me to be able to talk with a person like kuja killer, and managed to get some pretty interesting information out of it too! (I think we all can agree to this...) So I wanted to say what I wanted to say before I lose my chance to ask / say anymore.
That was going to be my last "FAQ" message for kuja killer before I went back to asking questions like, "How do I right click on a mouse?" Once again, apologize if I sounded like I was being pushy. |

Posted by Gavzilla1000 Well given with all whats been said in here, I suggest some of the willingly oldbie hackers start up a asm workshop. I also agree if your going to want to learn asm you follow along with what the say and show abit of your work. Least that will let them know users are doing as instructed and keeps coming back to show or demonstrate a few ideas. Even though I am not really geard for nes asm hacking, but I rather go for the snes asm. Reminds me I need to crack open that C# programming book on my smartphone and read up again. :/ |
