I have decided to terminate Castlevania: Cadence of Agony. The reasons are numerous, but the main one being that I have lost interest in it and I can no longer have it needlessly burden my life. I am also ending my rom hacking career. My hobby is becoming very unpopular with those I know and love.

Optomon: You know I always had mad love & respect for you, I know where you're coming from. There's changes in my life where I can't keep up with this hobby anymore either, I rather make a Googie Toons game from scratch either using Game Maker, Multi Media Fusion 2 or get involved with the XNA community where you can make games and upload 'em on Xbox LIVE and make money.

Over the years we spoke behind the scenes I always admired your dedication & having big balls, looking at those notes should show people how far you went to make this hack a reality. Now imagine all that time & dedication on making your own game? You know that'd be hot!

Do you have facebook and/or twitter? You can reach me at my e-mail in my profile. I didn't mean to derail the topic, sorry if I did. You'll be okay in 2010, I know you will...

I tried out the hack though, it's pretty sweet from what I played. It's worth holding on to, for anyone who was waiting for this project.

I'm glad to hear that from you googie.

I really wanted to finish this game. I had more passion and ambition put into it than anything else ever pretty much. Worked on it gruelingly for about a year, sometimes 8-12 hours a day. A huge problem is that I could relate to very few on it and started alienating myself from a lot of people. Way too much going on with life right now to keep it up. I also want to focus on another important hobby of mine- musical composition and performance.

I scanned those notes hoping to provide insight to rom hackers on what its like to make large scale hacks and to let them know what it was like making this game. It felt like mad science more than anything.

On a side note, I nearly was sucked into making an XNA game earlier this year, but I didn't like working in high level programming languages (C# if I remember correctly) and I was too busy making this game.

I hear you my Dude, musical composition and performance is where it's at.

Here's my offer to you Optomon, Googie Toons The Game is in the infancy stages right now. Would you ever be interested in making music for the game? It'll be a 2D game with a dark comedy feel to it. This way we get exposure out there with the public...

I think it's in bad taste ask a guy who just retired from game creation to work on your game.

I was looking forward to this hack. I guess with you retiring Dr. Mario is retiring too. He should of stuck to CV1 hacks.

I'm sorry to see you cancel this hack, there aren't many people making castlevania games with the ambition of you and I. I haven't released any information on my 8-eyes to CV hack in over a year but have been working on it very steadily with small doses.
I can imagine what you are going through and can relate in a very real way. It's hard to leave something unfinished, but life is more important.
Anyways perhaps this will leave Dr. Mario free to work on some music for my game. jk. Take care.

Excuse me, but who are you telling me off like you got it like that? Me & Optomon go way back, there's nothing wrong with asking a Friend if he'd be interested is because there's big names out there looking at my cartoons. And encouraging a Friend with an important hobby/passion like musical composition and performance for public exposure by asking if he'd be interested to compose music in my honest opinion there's nothing wrong with that. I'm doing all the grunt work in the game thank you very much...

Optomon: I'm sure that if anyone out there has big enough balls to take your notes, study 'em learn 6502 and take this hack and finish it I'm sure you'll give 'em your blessing. Because in my honest opinion, because if it were me releasing this hack as is, I'd like to hear in a few years from now that someone actually picked up an old hack and finished it. Kinda like what I did with SMBC.

It's too bad you had to cancel, Optomon. This is currently the only extensive Castlevania hack I know of, and had I heard about it before this thread, you'd have had my support in seeing it through to the end...but alas.

This woulda' been great, as you obviously know what you're doing...which is more than I can say of myself. I also really enjoy that it's essentially a Metroidvania combined with the Classicvania engine; a sort of joining of two different eras instead of being fully one or the other was an awesome idea!

I wish you well in whatever you do.

My apologies. I guess the perfect time to ask someone to work on your game is when they announce their retirement from game creation.

Hey bite me, I do what I want. In all seriousness though. I am and always will be an artist as far as digital mediums go, so I'm going to continue to do stuff, just not this hack. Right now I'm working on some Left 4 Dead 2 stuff, and I'm considering doing something with Reuben when it comes out, but nothing anywhere near as serious as this project got.

Optomon just got done doing the music for Grimlocks Rogue Dawn Metroid hack and is working on Pyron still. I would try to get a hold of him on RHDN.

Can't blame him for wanting to continue working with him. He's got a knack for creating graphics.

He never replied, so turns out I was right. In your face Googie. Guess you weren't as close as you thought.

You bumped a six year old thread just to make Googie look bad? What a dick move, bro. Shit happens in the ROM Hacking community and people do other things, you don't know if they talk in private years after this thread was made, how do you know if they're not Facebook friends? Googie is friends with ROM Hackers on Facebook. Googie been through a lot of shit over the years and he's one of the few people that still help new people in the scene when they contact him, you're a buster... 💣🔫🔪🔪🔫💣💀💀💀

I was retorting to his retort. And he was retorting me saying it's rude to ask someone that just announced their retirement to work on their project. Especially when that project would give them no satisfaction and no fame.

Just checking on this forum randomly, and I nearly forgot this thread existed. I honestly kind of ignored it shortly after its creation. To be fair to Googie, I was a drama queen to make this thread, and my retirement lasted about two months so he was right to take it with a grain of salt, haha. And I know Googie, he is probably the least offensive person ever. And I've seen a lot of lame anti-climatic posts that bump ancient threads in my time, but this definitely takes the cake. I was what, 24 at the time? I'm 31 now... it's amazing how much has happened since that time.

Were you on that Matthew McConaughey planet where one hour is seven earth years by chance?

Welcome back to posting here, hope you can stick around though because this site is still fun.

I agree about Googie. He seems really helpful and a good person, and a great ROM hacker.
