Hey sports fans,

I made an interesting discovery when doing some Axem Black work.
To see if everything was working correctly with sprites thus far, I decided to watch the title screen demo thing.
As it turns out, the sprites in the game that I thought were unused, (the 2nd goomba, the 2nd hammer bro, and even the 2nd Czar dragon) weren't unused at all; they were used in the title demo. Messing with their scripts reflects what they do in the demo. So because I have messed with the hammer bro battle scripts from the demo, the title demo does not run past the point where Mario fights the Hammer bros.
This is not really a big deal since you don't need to watch the title demo to play the game, I just thought it was interesting to note.

On another, more relevant note, I am still working. But I still haven't decided what to do about Geno's projectile weapons. I suppose I could just draw Black some guns or something.

On topic how about changing the projectiles into ninja stars? I think that would suit black as he's the most ninja looking of the axem rangers.

Hey guys,
I haven't been able to update very much this past week because I've been super busy and have had very little time to work on this.
This weekend should be better. I'll definitely have more time to work.
BUT that isn't to say I haven't made any progress: I have done quite a bit of work on Black. I hope to have him done sometime in the next week.

Hello again gang,
This week has turned out to be busier than I had hoped with tests and projects and what not.
But fear not, work is still getting done.

Black is getting a lot closer to completion. I think for Black's "Geno Flash" attack (I haven't decided what to name it yet) I'm going to have him shoot the flare out of a bazooka of some kind.
I've also decided to keep Double Punch as an attack for Black. He's wearing some kind of special battle suit, so why can't the arms fly off?

Good ideas for black, as for the geno blast name how about Axem barrage?
you could also edilt all the blasts to be black as it would correspond to him.

I don't know if I can edit the main flare part of Geno Flash. In the sprites section, i can find Geno Flash's "face" (The face that appears in the middle of the flare) but I can't find the actual flare part of it anywhere.

Okay, here's where I'm at right now:
I still have 4 weapon animations to do for Black:
Finger Shot will probably be taken out completely to make room for an ax weapon,
Hand Cannon will probably be removed in favor of Shadic's ninja star idea,
Hand Gun might or might not stay, I really haven't decided yet,
and Star Gun = ? I don't know what to do with that yet. Black shooting stars seems a little weird to me, but I still need an idea to replace it.

As far as magic goes, I'm pretty much set. Geno Flash is in process right now. I still don't know what to call it though. Shadic's Axem Barrage name seems like it might be a better name for the attack I'm replacing Bowser Crush with where the Blade crushes enemies rather than a giant mecha-koopa.
I also plan on giving Black Toadstool's Psych Bomb spell. But rather than fiddle around with spell scripts, I think I'll just draw in an animation for Black directly into Pink's animations, which should be easy because, oddly enough, all of the Axem Rangers have Black's palette within their own palettes.

tl;dr version: Black's almost done, but I could use an idea for a weapon to replace Star Gun.
Like I said before, hopefully I'll have Black done by the end of this week.

It's nice to hear that your making a lot of headway.
All of those ideas are really awesome, as for the the star gun how about
a power ranger type of blaster gun, it could shoot black pellets or maybe
lasers. So all thats left is pink? Is she gonna be the main healer of the game?
I wonder if you could make her like she is in smrpg, for instance having special
attacks that induce mushroom, poison, mute(well that's already done with peach) and fear.
I have some attack names for the corresponding ailment.

Mushroom-------Petal blast
Poison-----------Poison
Mute-------------Silence
Fear-------------Fright

If anyone has any better names for these then by all means.

Can you use inflict the mushroom status on an enemy? I've never tried it before (obviously, it could only be done through hacks). Has anyone done this before? I like to know what would happen.

Hey guys,
I've been super busy this past couple weeks. Professors really know how to lay it on thick. I haven't really had much time at all to do any work on this, but I have done some so fear not. But from what I can tell, there is even more school work in my immediate future so I won't have much time to work on this for the next week or two. I will work on it when I can though. Also, I am getting my wisdom teeth removed this Thursday so I doubt if I'll have the will to do much of anything for the next several days.
Hey, at least I keep you guys updated.

Thanks for the wishes of health, you two.
It's been nearly a week, and my mouth still hurts, but not nearly as bad as the first day. Also, even though there's only a few more weeks left in the semester, I don't have a whole lot of work at the moment so I've been able to get some more work done.

As the sprite editing portion of the main characters starts to get closer to completion, I started thinking: Though there is a lot of stuff with this hack that I want to do to completely revamp it, should I release a version of this hack with only the character sprites different just so people can have a little fun with the original? I mean, I'll definitely still work on more stuff to do, this would just give people something to do in the mean time.

And that brings me to my next point. When the sprites are done, I was thinking of having maybe 2 or 3 people beta test the sprites. This would include playing through the game using all 5 characters and examining all of their various animations, in and out of battle, to make sure nothing weird happens.
Shadic, you already got the job as a tester. Al2Fenrir can still do it if he ever comes back, but I'm doubtful at this point, so I'll need maybe 1 or 2 others. Let me know if you're interested. Of course, I don't know how long it will be until these sprites are done. Hopefully it won't be too long.

I think having two versions is an excellent idea, one for the people that don't want anything too fancy but want something a bit different and the completely redone one for the people(me for one)who'll love it. If you want I can beta-test both versions, one thing though, for the version that will have just the sprites done would there be any change to the dialog?

There probably won't be any change to the dialogue, other than the changes I have already made (which are very small.) In the version with only sprites edited the only difference would be the beginning where you have to battle Torte other then Bowser. In that battle the dialogue has been changed. Everything else would be the same though. In other words, People will be calling Axem Red Mario.
