Apparently I can't change the program associations (or whatever) for files (rather, I can't add new programs to that "Open With" list thing). Does anyone know what's going on and/or how to fix it?

1. you sure it's not there if you scroll down?
2. open any folder in explorer, open the tools menu, choose folder options, and go to the file types tab to configure permanent settings for all that

I've had that problem with Limited user accounts before. Just out of curiosity, what type of user account are you using?

Unfortunately, I have no suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Well I'm using an "Administrator" level account so it can't be that.

Just curious are you checking the box that says "Always use this program to open this type of file". You probably are, but just making sure.

Have you ever been able to change the associations, or did this problem just mysteriously start recently? If it started recently, did you install any new software or make any other changes around the time it started?

Well it started a few months ago when I updated VBA but trying to use the old version as the program-association doesn't work either. And the "Always Use" check-box isn't the issue because the program doesn't show up in the list in the first place. Also I only have this issue with some programs (VBA and a few others), other programs I try to add to the list work fine.

That Open With dialog is buggy. When I first started using XP, no matter what program I chose, it'd open with Wordpad. It likes to mess up associations too. I prefer to just edit them manually.
