I'd be willing to hack it in if I can get some evidence that it won't be used as an excuse against lowbrow layouts being relentlessly nuked by the administration if demand is really that high...

I kind of agree that it is an excuse for the staff to be lazier and say "if you don't like it just block it", but then again it is on so many other boards and works fine there. Well, there's good and bad I leave the choice up to you.

I see a lot of truth to what blackhole89 is saying though. I don't see it as a reduced workload for me or any other admin. It just wasn't designed to be this way. It is the ability for users to choose what *they* don't like. In this case, Arbe doesn't like my layout despite a mosts reward. I dunno if there's better evidence than that to support this. I personally doubt I will use this feature a lot, but I know lots of people will.

If I see a really bad layout, I'll nuke it. Having this feature won't change that.

Block layout > nuke layout

reasons:

block layout can be used by users who individually think a layout is bad (where as some other users might like it)

nuke layout translates as "my superior admin opinion means this layout is awful and no-one is allowed to see it any more" which is fucking retarded. sure an admin could nuke a layout that's badly written and is disrupting tables, but if it's just not appealing to them, they don't have the right to.

If it's not appealing to *me*, then I will use the "block layout" function. Since we don't have one yet, I've just dealt with it. I haven't done anything besides fixing layouts and nuking them when they cannot be read easily or just plain screw everything up.

If you're still bent out of shape over me deleting your gif then take it to PM.

Why would I be "bent out of shape" about that? It just prompted me to raise a point is all. I can use that at any forum, this place isn't special

Arbe just said "block layout = well it looks bad but doesn't break anything
nuke layout = Oh look a plaintext header with no linebreaks!", no need to italicize some text here.
And Arbe, really, that gif was weird...

And we STILL don't have this feature. Thanks for all the work you're putting in, guys...

(Edit: Just so there are no strange misunderstandings; if you don't have the power to do it, I'm obviously not referring to you.)

On the subject, for blocking all layouts, instead of equipping the jedi helmet (which doesn't actually explain it does that) you should just be able to turn it off in your profile..

Have you actually read the item description for the Jedi Training Helmet?

Says so right there.

Why should you have to browse through a useless part of the forum then click on something useless in a useless forum to find out what it does?

Because thats what a normal useless forum does. Make you search through useless things on the useless forum.

Besides, I like clicking useless things and finding out what they do!

By definition, if it's useless, it doesn't do anything...

Also, Omi's right. Actual features shouldn't be hidden away as an obscure item that most people won't even realize exists.

Guys, you can stop arguing about user-user blocklayout now. I got this.

If you do implement this feature, you should put links to the block layout function in the individual's posts and on their profile.

there should also be an option for hiding all layouts and avatars (for mobile users and people who browse at work).

I've put it on the profile page, like on ABXD, and the "is it blocked" determination includes a check for what is now the Jedi Training Helmet, but there's no replacement for that yet so it's never set.

That's all I'm gonna say about it. I'm actually not supposed to say anything.

Wait you actually code things for board2 now?
Edit: And why is saying "hey we're actually doing useful things for board2 still don't worry"/whatever forbidden? That seems dumb...

So, at this point, can we start demanding this be done?
