Ever since the day you knew about emulators... which one is your favorite?

I like emulation, though I do play my PS3...

I prefer the real thing, unless of course I do not own said real thing. Getting to lounge on a couch, a recliner, or my bed beats sitting in a computer chair any day.

Can you guess? Of course the real thing! I'd rather play my real Game Boy Color, Advance, N64, SNES, Genesis/Mega Drive...you name it. Emulation really is just never as good as the real deal.

It just seems better somehow to play it on your real, working console, haha.

I prefer either, I've been playing my DS nearly nonstop the past few weeks (Final Fantasy Tactics A2) and have been itching to play my PS2 (Disgaea: Hour of Darkness) but don't necessarily want to sink too much time into a game quite that involved as of right now. I use emulators for my Let's Plays on YouTube for simplicity (and clarity since I LP handhelds), that and it's convenient not to need to have the physical cartridge/CD and the hardware to play them since my TV stand in my apartment is cluttered enough with my TV, DVD player, PS2, N64, NES, and all of my roommate's stuff.

For some people, emulators vs the real thing is *almost* exactly comparable to each other when you have the right equipment and you aren't emulating current-gen. I can emulate most games perfectly on my old 1995 boob tube. Controllers, visuals, sounds, all the same. I can even play these games with other controllers, which gave me some replay value because the game feels different this way. Now, the problem in this case arises when emulators start to get inaccurate in regards to PS1/2 games, N64, DS, etc. and when you are gaming on the go. Can't beat handhelds.

I suppose its a split decision in this case. I will admit that most people don't have a setup like I do and would most likely not go through the trouble that I would. I will just say that a mixture of streetsmarts, lack of money, and desire to play some games drove me to do it this way.

GameCube/Wii emulation can be better than the real consoles since you could render graphics at high definition.... but generally, I'd prefer the real thing.

I mostly prefer consoles for console games, but in the case of the NES, I much prefer PocketNES on my GBA to carrying around my NES, a portable TV, & a box of D batteries (which I actually tried once).

I do also play computer games, though, & I would not want to play those particular games on a console. Perhaps there is some slight difference in design between good console & PC games (even in the same genre), or perhaps I am just silly.

Considering the superiority of keyboard controls in most cases, better monitors, sound, portability and filters when needed, I have to say I prefer emulation.

I prefer playing games while sitting down in front of a TV in a nice chair (there are some exceptions) to playing games while hunched over a keyboard.

But I also prefer the conveniences emulation provides to the hassles caused by using old and unreliable hardware.

So I'd either have the real thing with some sort of flashcart or an emulator hooked up to a TV.

Generally, emulation. I have a usb connector for my PS2 controllers so I'm not stuck with keyboard controls, and on an emulator I can fast-forward through boring cutscenes/etc, and of course there are all the various other tools that emulators have available (savestates/rewinding, etc). Though for Wii/GC games, and most DS games, I play them on the actual console/handheld.

	For real, I'd say the real thing. If I had a proper controller to hook up for my computer though... Let's face it. There is no good way of setting up shoulder buttons onto a keyboard that is convenient. ____________________

Shift - B; Z = A; X = X; Ctrl = Y; C = Start; V = Select; A = L; S = R.

Anyone who emulates an analog stick on a keyboard needs to not use a keyboard, though.

Still awkward as hell since you need to take your finger off of a face button to reach for a shoulder button.

For the record I use:
B = S, A = D, X = A, Y = W, L = Q, E = R, Start = Enter, Select = Right Shift
D-pad is arrow keys.

Also, ~ = Fast forward, Tab = Rewind, 1 = Save State, 2 = Load State, 3 = Change State Slot

And occasionally, but not often:
Turbo B = Z, Turbo A = X

Ten years ago I would said the real deal.

Now emulators are so good and accurate it's... not really a huge difference to play on a emulator. Thanks to accurate emulators like Nestopia or BSnes. Plus you don't need to fiddle with carts and can chat at the same time with people.

Also, Netplay, High resolution textures, full-screen GB/GBC/GBA, no messing with disks or cartridges, and speed/rewind buttons. Unless it's a system seriously out of modern emulation's reach, emulation is superior.
Though the nostalgia of an actual NES is nice sometimes...
