I thought they just did the remote control stuff for cars, not actual cars--I wasn't aware they they personally manufacture stuff.

I guess Google has a long way before trying to take the automotive industry head on. What they are doing now is nothing more than excentric toys...

And that's different from Porsche etc. how?

If you work at google you can own a porsche but if you work at porsche you cannot own a google.

In somehow related news, you can't own a googol Porsches either.

Let alone a googolplex of 'em.

Well, it's obvious. Porsche has experience, Google has not. Although Porsche is not a good example since it's usually not large-scale production like Toyota or similar...

If you work at Google, you can own a Porsche, but you can't own Porsche...

And the way the word "Porsche" is pronounced in English is weird...

Actually on second thoughts, porsches have become the uppity proles' car, if you work at google you'll probably want a ferrari or a lamborgini, or maybe just a tesla for the lulz. The mountain view site has perfect weather and there are some great roads around north cal so it is a sound investment.

Looks like Amazon pulled the book The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure by Phillip R Greaves 2nd. However it still shows up in the search.
I guess people were offended or something.

USB - Satan's Data Connection

Via Slashdot.

I wonder just what the world must look like through the eyes of a fundamentalist... it must be a single hellish obstacle course of temptation and satanic symbolism.

Well, SCSI was intended to be pronounced sexy originally.

Spoiler:
While I hadn't doublechecked myself, the Slashdot comments says that it comes from a satirical Brazilian blog.

Everyone I know pronounces SCSI as something along the lines of "scahzee".

Spoiler:
Also, now that you say that, it makes sense. All the hits I can find about it are references to the Slashdot story...

Wow. They must've searched VERY carefully to find something like this to accuse of being satanic.

Spoiler:
Thanks for ruining it, Ailure.

"Almost a full day was devoted to agreeing to name the standard "Small Computer System Interface," which Boucher intended to be pronounced "sexy", but ENDL's Dal Allan pronounced the new acronym as "scuzzy" and that stuck." -- Wikipedia

Personally I rarely stumble upon SCSI (I seen the port RL, used virtual SCSI drives at some point, and that's about it), so I hadn't had a need for pronouncing it.

It's pronounced ess-cee-ess-eye, you goddamn wordsmiths.

I never did understand the practice of making words from what obviously isn't.

Well, that only raises the age old question...

...how do you pronounce Acmlm?

Opera's speech synthesizer goes for Akmulm. I pronounce it Acclim.

You may shoot me now.

I'd pronounce it as if it was an abbreviation of something. But well, not like I ever have to pronounce it IRL so...

Spoiler:
Also, if you want to know how to pronounce Acmlmboard, you don't. You just say "Swiss cheese" XD

I pronounce it as A-C-M-L-M.

Back in the days when the vidya company wasn't defunct yet, there apparently were quite a number of people who pronounced it "Acclaim".

Also, spelling things out letter-by-letter generally turns out to be unwieldy when you have to mention something over and over again.

I've never really run into this dilemma with "ACMLM". I also mentally spell out the letters when reading it.
