Excuse me

Firefox has 45% usage, IE 30%, and Chrome 17%

Other browsers are by comparison unpopular

stark you need to go clothes shopping sometime--y'know at a real clothier? maybe find a good hairdresser while you're at it? i don't know if you're waiting until after the procedure is finished, but in the meantime theres a pretty wide range of unisex clothing that is pretty fashionable these days if you're into that.

there are one or two places in seattle that are pretty awesome

Yes... except you, well, missed the entire point of Stark's post there.

Why the heck did you quote Stark's post when yours is in no fucking way a reply or any related to what he said?

Not to mention, the current topic is about browsers, not bashing Stark's choice in clothing.

Firefox's tab bar > any other browser's way of handling tabs (except IE)
None of the three expand modes Opera's tab bar supports is really convenient. Default mode just compresses tabs until they fit in the bar, no matter how numberous they are; expand menu mode feels unpractical (for example how do you close tabs that aren't on the bar? you don't); and multiline mode looks bad but yet is the most convenient. Tho I feel like I'm soon going to have my tab bar fill up the top half of my screen.

I switched to Opera because Firefox kept consuming resources and crashing for no reason (and no I don't feel like restarting my browser every 10 minutes so don't tell me to do so); went through Chrome before installing Opera, god Chrome was awful. Kept locking up and asking me whether to kill the flash plugin or not.

Some also say Firefox consumes a lot of memory. Well, Opera is currently consuming 503mb of memory with 19 tabs opened. Discuss.

But well, Opera seems more stable than Firefox and Chrome so far, didn't crash or hang yet, so I'm keeping it. It really irritates me when the browser crashes and I have to restore like 50 tabs. Not to mention Chrome doesn't automatically save/restore tabs...

I think I read somewhere that it uses whatever's available or something. You have at least 500 megs available, so that it'll use. Something like that. I think there's better info on this on the Opera site somewhere.

I have 4gbs of memory (that is, a bit less due to 32-bit Windows 7).

I recall seeing Firefox consume about 1gb of memory, but that was with like 50 tabs opened. I think it usually crashed 'for no reason' when it was using so many memory, but not sure.

I can't talk about Chrome for its entire life, but I started using it early this year and have found it pretty excellent. It haven't seen it crash; sometimes it temporarily locks when pluginsscrew things up, but you can force close said plugins if that happens. I switched away from Opera because its support for specific things I liked was really questionable. And Chrome's automatically generating a start page based on what you frequently visit is real cool.

Also, there IS an option in the Chrome settings to, on startup, open the pages that were open last time.

Personally I'd rather have my start page fixed, but I'll grant you that the concept itself is kinda cool.

Perhaps, as a theoretical compromise, the ability to lock certain cells to a given page? Does Chrome allow that?

Mostly media things. For instance, the mouse cursor would sometimes disappear when watching things on revision3 while its flash applet was up. May not have been Opera's fault per se but it didn't happen on Fx or Chrome.

That should be enabled as a default. Too lazy to comb into the browser's config panels

But I'm still not going back to Chrome. Those continual lockups and plugin crashes irritated the hell out of me too much for that.

Though, Opera will ask you when you reopen it (like Firefox btw). Chrome doesn't.

I think this would be a good point to change the topic before the risk rises.

Eighties music. Any favorites?

I guess. Though Chrome WILL ask you regardless if it closed because it crashed.

But it doesn't ask if you close it 'on purpose'. I kept closing it by mistake after source code views ('cause I got used to Firefox's source code viewer which opens in a separate window), and it wouldn't ask me to restore tabs.

Again. You can change that if you want to. Your statement of "but it should be default" is pretty silly since actually most people I know prefer to start with just the home page.

ALSO I like how unlike Opera in Chrome "Open in new tab" doesn't immediately go to that tab, so you can for instance rapid-open cracked.com articles each day.
