I know you don't want to show me up. All I'm saying is that I'm glad there's enough SMB3 hacking activity going on that mine, yours, and several SMB3 hacks are being made right now.

Heheh, thanks. Yes, I'm glad this activity is going on. I was gonna' do a SMW hack, but that's gonna' be on hiatus for a while... I think it'll be a lot harder to pull off a good Mario 3 hack given the little documentation (in comparison to SMW) and the ridiculously awesome editor Lunar Magic is, so I think I'll feel a lot more accomplished if I complete a SMB3 hack over a SMW one.

Level design sometimes is hard for me. When making levels, I sometimes lose creativity and make an incredibly dull level. I often have to retrace myself and rebuild the level.

Aww, from what I saw, you do pretty well. You just gotta' come up with a process! Everyone's gotta' have a process~
Posted by "KP9000"
One of these days, I'd like to build a visual map of where SMB3 levels are and what type of levels they are so I can strategically pick which ones I want to overwrite if I need to overwrite any.

I was actually trying to do something like that myself once, but decided it was just way too much work...

Now this is an underground area in World 4 that shouldn't be too hard to exit.

Lookin' pretty good, zbyte! I like what you did to the hilly set terrain there; it looks a lot more rugged than before, complemented by that particular palette edit.

A maze-type level, huh? I think my own 2-6 will be one of those, as well. I'm gonna' try hard to make it actually confusing and not just "try every door until you find the right one." *glares over at world 3 Fortress 1*

I've got my ocean graphics done, but I think I'll show them off later. A couple of things still need revised.

Sounds good, Mineyl, sounds good. I was surprised when my graphics worked out. It was a first for me!

I opened up Mario Improvement 3 and opened up SMAS. Everything in there looked like crash objects, so I did not save anything. Speaking of editors, I talked to hukka a couple of weeks ago, and he got some really good suggestions, but he won't do anything (yet) because nobody gave him a donation.

Heh, remind me to hack SMB3 one of those days.

Actually, the grand majority of objects are the same between SMB3 and its SMAS counterpart. The reason you got all those crash objects is because SMAS SMB3 has a 13-byte level header instead of an 8-byte one (not to mention the offsets for each level are very different from the NES one; MI3 might be looking at the NES pointers). If you want to put levels into SMAS, build them with the NES version first, then copy the object bytes with a hex editor into the appropriate place in SMAS (also using a hex editor, obviously). That's how I got it to work on that one video of mine. :b

I started hacking Mega Man IV again. And the world needs more sophisicated MM4 hacks such as Rockman Sparking to Hero. I'm currently hacking the password ASM data that Yosakutea never done before or a similar variant to WINED's Rockman 2 Grayzone.

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/6056/mm4passerror.png
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/5627/mm4passwordedit.png

-So far I already add the 1UP Sound like in Mega Man 2 when you punch in the passcode. Very easy coding.

-NOP'ed the continue only in Cossack and Wily stages. Now you can choose Stage Select if you fail to beat the Cossack and Wily stages. Choosing the Dr. Light face in my hack will continue the cossack and wily levels where you left off.

If I can't change the passcodes in Mega Man IV, then it should be no problem not having one in my hack. I'm to study how the ASM data works for passcodes.

Sounds awesome, Stufu! I hope to see your editor soon. Mineyl, capitalize those B's.

Speaking of which, Dcahrakos wants to make a SMB3 Music Editor, and he is looking for someone with good information. I've sent him some stuff, but maybe he needs more.

And this is the screenshot thread...

The design of those blocks are fine.
But the palette is just horrible.

Dude, trust me, those blocks have to go.
Well, last time I checked you were no good at graphics either. But we'll get better.

In fact, I looked at a lot of graphics and know some good things to go by that will help me with graphics. I've changed those blocks and even made the after-"?" blocks shine with animation. I feel encouraged with that.

Yeah, the colors I used for the older blocks were not that good. I'm sure they're better now.

No, they're not, actually. Turn that brightness down. It kinda, y'know, burns.

Doesn't show much but still a glimpse at how the areas are made.

No Zelda game will EVER have this before. I hope the real programmers would make some Wii Zelda games based on the future or city.

I've studied the Mega Man IV password data for a week and I kinda figure out how it works. It's still on beta test because the passwords may be wrong if set improperly. I have to make sure everyone gets a fair game. Oh and it prevents cheaters anyway. But I can't stop them from using Save States.

I already add the data on Datacrystal. Feel free to look and try the code.

Tell Yosaku to say hi! I spent a week finding this data.

By the way, Stifu, can you explain the AI edition process in more details? It's intriguing...
How does the AI works? Each zone can lead to a set of possible behaviors?

I asked the same question on his message board. Been a long-time fan of his work. Looking forward to his Mario Kart hack.

When a computer driver enters a zone (zones being either rectangles or triangles), it will then drive toward the zone's target point (those little white circles located in the next zone). Colors are blue, green, yellow and red, and represent the speed of the computer driver when in that zone, from slowest to fastest.

Amazingly simple.
