Posted by Quick CurlyThat was how I wanted it before, but since I made those graphics, then it should be better. I wanted the door to be there, and I noticed the cut-off too. I may fix that. I fell like somethings missing from you, I don't know why. Here is a water-based level I finished up last week. ____________________ No quotes found; we apologize for the inconvenience. Here, I started a Bubble Bobble editor, just for kicks...

How hard could editing Bubble Bobble be? I mean, it's most likely just a bit pattern for each level.
Also, I'm curious, how are letter bubbles handled? ____________________ we're currently experiencing some technical difficulties |

I just tried out the game, and it looks pretty good. I may even put some blocks into my hack.
Also, is it wrong to post the names of ROM Sites? I know the FAQ says no direct links , but does it mean site names? One site has a frontpage with barely anything on it. ____________________ No quotes found; we apologize for the inconvenience. Commas, question marks, and semicolons are available, though. |

Posted by zbyteGrey Mario already explained it. By giving the site name, it's basically the same as providing a link. All the person would have to do is use Google to search for the site and they'd almost always be taken right to it, just as if they had typed the link into the address bar. Case closed. On-topic, I always enjoy seeing what you're working on, Trax. Best of luck with the editor. |

Why not mix SMW along with Mega Man.

Thanks for the encouragement, QC...
Posted by Grey Mario That's right, level data structure is very easy to decode, and data for the first 16 levels is right at the beginning of Bank 0. You get 2 tiles per byte, 0x150 bytes for the entire level. Random Letter Bubbles are pushed on a kind of "buffer" whenever you pop 3 or more enemies at the same time. If the current level has holes in it, then the bubbles will appear immediately, else, they are accumulated until the next level with holes. I don't know the depth of the buffer, though. I think it's no more than 3 or 4 bytes deep... Next I'll be working on enemy modification... |

Hey guys. I imagine the ROM hacking board is where I'll do most of my hanging out around here, so I thought I'd start off with three videos of my WIP nameless Mario 3 hack!
World 1, part 1: World 1, part 2: World 2: I've worked pretty hard on this hack, and I've still got loads more to do. I'm not an ASM junkie (RPG Maker is more my forte in the coding and scripting department), but I do plan to eventually give this game a graphical face-lift as well as pour my heart into creative and solid level design. I hope you enjoy the videos. :3 ____________________ Back from the beyond. |

@Mineyl And you quite work that much hard to design levels. Good work. Do you do All-Stars also? I saw that 1 level stage of yours.
Nothing much here but my SMW's Cutman stage. Music inserted will be there shortly. |

@Insect: Interesting concept for your stage. Have you thought of using the Cutman stage graphics from Wily Wars?
And thanks. No, I'm not terribly interested in hacking All-Stars until an editor for it comes out (purely hex editing is beyond me currently; not that I can't do it, it's just too tedious to me), though I did use your SMAS SMB3 documentation to hack a few of my NES hack's levels into SMAS for a video on my Youtube. I have to thank you for making all those notes, 'cause they also helped me with further understanding the NES version back when I was first starting. EDIT: Might as well post my SMAS video. Don't hit me for any flaws, though, 'cause it was just an experiment and you can clearly see that the levels are fine in the NES videos: ____________________ Back from the beyond. |

I already posted this somewhere else, but here are some screenshots (well, if the host is cooperating...) of Short Circuit, the first ever custom track for Stunt Race FX!
Aside from two problems, this track is functional: 1. Free Trax will delete all saved times for a track if you get a finishing time below one minute. This is a problem because the average time for Short Circuit is 30 seconds. 2. The enemy vehicles in Speed Trax do follow the correct path, but they drive too slowly. They can be lapped easily using the 2WD. Two trucks and an Arwing watch the action from inside the track. Depending on the vehicle used, you start out Short Circuit with 25 or 30 seconds on the countdown timer in Speed Trax. Ten seconds are earned for competing the first lap, and five for completing the 2nd. Here, I finished with only 9 seconds left. The truck pictured here is actually one of several unused models in the game, most of which are road pieces. Oh, and something you couldn't see in the screenshots: I ported the Mario Circuit music from Super Mario Kart. You can hear it in this video: ____________________ |

Like I've said elsewhere, your SMB3 hack looks awesome, Mineyl! Best of luck with your continued progress!
So since I mentioned that I would try to work a little bit on Luigi's Chronicles 2, I took advantage of some free time today to edit some more graphics. Since Quick Bros. 2 hasn't been worked on for most of 2009, though I did have some graphics done for it, I decided to incorporate a few graphical ideas from Quick Bros. 2 into Luigi's Chronicles 2. I'll probably show some more a little later since there is still some stuff in progress, but for now I'd like to ask for an opinion on which of the following palettes looks better. Does anyone remember 6-9 and my previous post about the different palettes? Well I was testing out some palettes over the last hour and I sort of like these two for this level specifically. So what does everyone think? The first one? The second one? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance. Now that I'm previewing my post, I can see that KP's posted his own before I finished mine! I enjoyed that video, KP, and the ending was awesome! EDIT: I forgot to add; the IPS patch for Luigi's Chronicles 2 increased from 60 KB to 62 KB with the few additions that I did today. The bigger the IPS patch size, the more excited I get. |

Posted by Quick CurlyLookin' snazzy! Huh? I don't see the IPS Patch. Did you edit those palettes based on the post I made in the first page of this thread? You're actually reminding me of that old news in the old screenshot thread. I used Mario Improvement 3 some weeks ago, and I deleted it. I thought Googie would do the graphics, but... I didn't see anything wrong with the original palette for 6-9 either, I guess the 1st one is good. Save your ROM Hacking stuff to a flash drive and take it where you might need it. KP900, how did you get the "number of players" selection to be different like that? All this stuff is motivating me even more. I completed 3 levels today, wrapping up Area 3. EDIT: Trelior, I can fix up Luigi's Palettes in your hack and possibly add his sprites. I'll PM you my E-Mail so you can send the hack to me. ____________________ No quotes found; we apologize for the inconvenience. Commas, question marks, and semicolons are available, though. |

Posted by zbyteThanks. I didn't post an IPS patch. I said the IPS patch size so that everyone could get an idea of the amount of changes I've made so far. Posted by zbyteI used the FCEUXD hex editor like I always do. Posted by zbyteThanks for your input. I've always planned on changing the palettes. Different palettes can give the player different feelings, moods, and levels of excitement while playing a level, so they do matter. I'd just want to use different ones to add to the changes that I've made everywhere else. . Posted by zbyteWhen I'm at school, I'm there to focus on school. Plus I'd prefer not to put something important like this project on a public computer after all the work I've put into it. In conclusion, it's better on all counts for me to just work on it at home. As always, I apologize about the long wait that seems to have no end. I'd rather take my time and do the hack right than to release it prematurely like I did the first Quick Bros. which I try to pretend I didn't make. Posted by zbyteYou could always just let him know how to do it in the thread. Doing something for oneself is always the best way to learn. |

Wow, KP... I am thoroughly impressed. Everything looks great, so far. I'd planned to alter my hack's graphics, as well, and I think you've given me the motivation to see about starting that... So thank you. :3
And thank you, Quick. I hope I can keep up this winning streak all the way to the end. As for your palette predicament, might I suggest you go with the more purple of the two? I tend to prefer darker colors, and I don't believe anyone can argue that purple is easier on the eyes than pink. ____________________ Back from the beyond. |

Posted by MineylYou're welcome, as always. I must thank you as well because your videos have helped to motivate me too. I know you will! Thanks for your opinion about the palettes as well. I appreciate it. I prefer darker colours myself. I thought the second palette looked neat at the time as well though, so I was interested in hearing what everyone else thought. Thank you again, everyone. |

Mineyl, you rock at level design. That is some of the most well thought out level design I've seen in a hack. Very professional.
A note, though - you might already be aware, but, in that final, light purple stage, the pillars in the background could use some darkening, if you can spare the colors - they look a little too much like foreground. |
