Started working on an image to snes graphics format converter. Right now it's designed to work with bmp files but in theory it could probably work with others.

Indeed.. I'm using an asm hack NEONswift made a while back. The dark world acts as a second layer for the light world. While this may seem dramatic, I have found a way to warp to the other world even so, but the areas there will only have one layer, so less detailed. ____________________ http://parallelsequel.wordpress.com/ |

I'm glad to hear that. I was hoping to see both overworlds. Even if the second one is less detailed, it would still look as detailed as the original game, right? Also, about this wasteland you mentioned; Is that basically the new Darkworld? A wasteland would be less detailed so it works perfectly. Hehe. If you don't want to spoil anything then you don't need to answer that.
Edit: Sorry, I assumed you were going to make both overworlds explorable. So I'll just ask: Since you found a way to warp to the second one will you put that in as part of gameplay? |

The wasteland itself is the light world as we know it. It's where monsters will naturaly act as their mutants counterparts.. and also explain why the frell the cars don't move!
I'm probably going to use a few dark world areas for one event (the one in which you get teleported to the other world after fighting agahnim)... Those dark world areas might be less detailed, but I'll see what I can do to make them better... like a rift between realities or something.. that's where you'll see things that are surreal compared to the rest of the world. ____________________ http://parallelsequel.wordpress.com/ |

Finally got around to finishing that merge / clustering algorithm for palettes. I proceeded to add code to output a YY-CHR palette file. Here's a screenshot of me using it in that program:
As you can see in YY-CHR only some of the graphics will look right depending on which palette you currently have selected. The utility also optionally outputs an automatically generated xkas source code file with the merged palette data in text form, along with a table that links each tile to its merged palette. Excerpt:

What for an gorgeous Overworld.
This hack doesn't just make use of SNES Graphics, but also PSX Graphics. That one entrance at 0:10 is from Alundra, while the dunes are from Romancing Saga 3. I suggest to use as much Alundra Graphics as possible. Why? Because that game was fantastic! ____________________ I was a prisoner enclosed in the void, were everything might end up just as myself. The hack looks solid and fine, but I would change the music, if I were you.

I got back to Mario's Trials and started editing some levels again, but later I found out that a bunch of the levels I made should be worked on again and a few redone altogether!
