Foreword

Megaman Forever is a hack of Megaman 4, which started with level modifications. I eventally added some ASM hacks.. and the hack grew in extent as i worked on it. I have come up with a storyline.. and 8 new robot masters. This is experimental, especially the story, and is still in draft. I don't have the biggest confidence in storytelling talents, so we'll see what the final result will be depending on the response i get. Plus, i realize that if the hack is to have a feeling of realism, it needs to be true to the 'feeling' of mega man games. And if this hack will be able to do that, is not for certain..
My sprite talents are also lacking, so the robot masters and their portraits would end up rather pathetic.. but i will be asking for help on that. Thanatos-Zero has already offered some help, anyone who wants to help with sprites is welcome.

The decision

So far i have promoted this hack by revealing only a drop of what i've accmplished, and keeping a lid on everything else. But.. i have decided that, its not worth it to do things that way. This is a very big project. Many people probably want to try it out before its completed, and keeping this open can lead to many good things.. Therefore, here comes the 1st "Unabridged" demo of Mega Man Forever. If there will be more demos, who knows.

Now. Note that every corner of this demo is incomplete, a lot of things is a temporary sketch. Especially for dialogues, and anything story-related. There's a debug menu system in place. It basically allows you to go to any continue point in any level, get all weapons immediatedly, get all weapons immediatedly (haha), and other fun functions. Some stages are pretty complete, so they can be cleared, other stages only lets you play a few screens.. i think.

This release contains so much that isn't shown off yet. But here are some teasing images:

I like the look of this hack from the screenies. Did you some of the gfx yourself because I know some of them are from other Megaman games. I would like to try this out when I get the chance.

Ive recently started to feel the same way a little bit about my own hack. That i shouldn't even be keeping it a secret from anyone anymore. The fact that i made my own 1 level demo of boltman a couple months ago.

And well, i uploaded here on acmlm boards uploader space. (the hacks page)

Well i tried your rom out just now, pretty cool stuff. I did not ever want to try those options about getting all weapons and items and stuff...no way. so like i didn't read the opening story. Not that i dont want to, but just cause i'd rather wait and all.

Looking foward to play this. Since Mega Man IV is my favorite game I myself should start a long-term project anytime soon. I've just need to create some of the short-term ASM projects first. Like Re-coding the Rush Jet into MM3 style.

Currently, I have failed to create a fast scrolling patch by rock5easily into the US version of Mega Man IV due to the fact that the VRAM data is completely different formats from Rockman 4 and the rom offsets are way off the line.

And I have no idea what is Haikei patch does from rock5easily. At least the source code is provided for Haikei whenever I going to code it into another version.

So far your work is good so far since I saw Propelman's level yesterday.

The readme file says that it adds the foreground (megaman beind background) property. Because it was only used in toadman originally, and was impossible to ever use it for anything else in the game cause it was hard-coded. Really pretty stupid honestly that it wasn't allowed for any level in the game for the level data format for MM4.

So that you can use that property for any level now. Whatever TSA block property that the rain blocks was using from toad.

@Nintendude88: A lot of the graphics is from other MM games. Some are from Bionic Commando, but i did do some original myself also.

@kuja killer: The opening story after the title screen, its actually obsolete. Its a left-over from my earlier ideas.

Okay, fair enough. I'll proberly will use that whenever I'm making a level that actaully uses the FG property for future use.

I loved the concept that was used in one of the levels. I won't spoil anything, but watching what happens, then playing the level, it brought back a cool fusion between nostalga, and the progress the Megaman series made since then. In fact, an entire game based around that concept would be neat.

hey i found a bug, just to tell you if you didnt know about it if i die in the beggining on wingmans level the gaphics gets a bit messed up, cant realy explain but try it and you will see.

anyway good luck with finnishing this one. i think capcom should realese it downloadable to ps3 , 360 and wii. this is mega man 10!

The game is still in production at the moment and still needs a lot more work. This includes the Boss AI movements as well as the new sprite change boss graphics as well. Chemic Man is the only one produced but possibly incompleted AI.

Anyway it's a question from Matrixz, How you create custom sprites without expanding the rom to 1024K. I know it takes a LOT of ASM work unless you've overwritten the original sprite coding or something.

I don't know if some sprites like Protoman from MM3 can be coded unless I'm really into 6502 programming.

I'm trying to make something authentic..
At the same time im placing things in my hack which is not typical for a mega man game.
I'm trying my best to build something where people will -not- stop playing out of frustration or glitches.
My story work might work if its improved.. or i might scrap it altogether.
So making this is a journey with a destiny still undetermined. For the last year or so, i never thought i would release this demo.

I know about the bug, thanks anyway.

Insectduel, it seems that you're trying to act like you are more in-the-know about this than the common man. I saw the "trailer" youtube video you made.. not really any harm done with that. But, if its true, its not very respectful of you.

What are those red things you find lying around the levels supposed to be? Placeholders for special items? The air dash would work better as an upgrade rather than a weapon, but perhaps it can work with the upgrade to give it extra speed, distance, and power.

I can't say that when it comes to upgrades, that I can think of anything that Megaman hasn't done already. Perhaps a visor that can spot hidden passages like in X2(in this case it would be an arrow pointing at a directional scroll). How about the power to walk through walls? Spike immunity? A grappling hook adaptor for the Wire that lets it hook onto ladders? How about make the Wire into a portable ladder? How about having to go back and forth in a level to find all the keys nessicary to unlock certain items? I noticed in one stage there was a Rush Marine icon on the floor. Will that mean Rush items will be found instead of gotten by beating levels?
