I started playing through this again yesterday, having already played it when it was first translated. I'm most of the way through it on this second playthrough. Pretty class game, this. You've probably all played it, but anyone who hasn't should totally play it. You've probably also had the plot spoiled for you if you haven't played it, but if you somehow haven't I won't explain it in spoilers.

It is, ah... Well-written. Strange, funny, and heartrending. Good RPG mechanics. Pretty class game, this.

I luckily got to it without spoilers! Yay me!

Except I saw a video of that unused beta final boss, which I totally thought was the final boss until I actually got to the end of the game.

I believe "unused" means that it ISN'T used so why'd you believe that?

I didn't read "unused" anywhere since it was just an embed.

Ah yes, that weird and creepy boss sequence which is believed to be either part of some nightmare scene or a alternate final battle (very similar to the Mother2 one in terms of creepiness).

I already played Mother3 once, but I plan to play it again as soon I'm done with Mother2. I been replaying all of the games, and amusingly... Mother1 isn't as hard as I remember it to be. There's some slight levelling treadmill towards the beginning in the game, but after that it's a smooth ride.

Then Mother1 is weird in the aspect that expect for the sea pendant, all the best armor is in Magicant. Which you visit fairly early in the game too, so you can grab the best stuff right away.

I still need to play this. Hell, I still gotta beat Mother 1 and 2. Where can I get it? Just googling "Mother 3 fan translation" or whatever?

Mother 1 and 2 pale in comparison compared to Mother 3. I wouldn't worry about playing them, they aren't needed to get the most out of Mother 3. Worst that happens is you'll miss a few references to Mother 2.

Also, here.

I would recommend testing Mother2 first if anything, but you can feel free to play Mother1 if you don't mind really old-school NES RPG's.

Earthbound might as well be a retelling of Earthbound Zero, they're basically the same plot progression

Earthbound isn't really a very good game, but it's definitely way better than Earthbound Zero which is grindtastic trash

Well the games do have a common plot, which can be put together into one long plot if you want to. I can try to write a summary of the connection up to the beginning of Mother 3, but it would be too TL;DR worthy.

All three games have a main PSI user with decent attack for main character, a secondary female PSI user, and a "tool" user as a third character (portrayed as a nerd in the two first games). All four games varies with the fourth character (buff guy in first game, male Asian dude in second, dog in third...).

Of course, Mother 3 varies alot more with the characters used within the game, and it's way more linear, at least in the regard of being able to go back. Mother 1 have no points of return, Mother 2 have one (cave of the past) and Mother 3... well when you gone into a new chapter you can't go back to a old one.

I personally enjoyed playing through Mother 1 and 2 again, but in the case of Mother 1... I'm very thankful for the turbo button on the NES emulator.

I've played thorugh Mother 2/Earthbound, though, and done everything in it including getting rare weapons and stuff. The side-effect of that was me reaching level 99 before taking on the last boss.

I....Feel...Happy...

Gawd, Mother 2's final boss was creepy. Especially the last part....(Wierd sound like a jet powering up it's turbines, and you can see a human fetus)

Mother 3 had some creepy bosses too....And that nightmare one was wierd.

Spoiler:
Claus is Giygas

Well hey since this topic is still up here I'm going to post in it seeing as I've got Claus in my avatar.

Posted by justjake274
Spoiler:
Claus is Giygas

Spoiler:
He most certainly is not. Giygas has absolutely no connection to Mother 3 and you should know that.

So my question: what role does Boney play in this exactly? Lucas is the strong physical attacker/PSI user, Kumatora is the second PSI user, Duster is the tool user, but what good does Boney do? Only thing he was ever useful for when I played was being fast and going first most of the time.

He's fast and because he has no other special skills you can give all your important combat items to him without worrying about it ever being useful to do other things instead of use them

I guess

Yeah, Boney is the item guy in the game.

I just noticed that Mother3 is the most generous with inventory space in the whole series. Which is a relief from my Earthbound run where I never seemed to have enough inventory.
