Just wondering: what ROM and version do I need?

This is another game I MIGHT get into hacking so yeah. I might use the (E) version which is the only verified good dump of SMK. The US version doesn't have a verified dump but does have an unmarked one which works fine, and the J version obviously won't be editable for text.

Any. J/U/E, headered or not.

Well, it is, as long as the text stays in Japanese. You could also edit the font graphics, but EE won't help much you with that.

OK, that's good. I asked because some hacking tools don't support E roms unfairly.

That's true, as you say, it is meant for track editing only.

I mean, I did bother adding support for editing the Japanese text, but you just can't use most roman characters. That actually took efforts, as it's harder to support than English text. On the bright side, it seems I didn't necessarily waste my time, as I saw EE gets mentioned on some Japanese sites.

On a side note, it must be possible to extract the uncensored Peach podium animation and insert it into the Euro or US ROM.

I don't think it would be too much trouble since her sprite wasn't edited (I think Yoshi's sprite is redrawn in the Japanese version, which looks more like the one in the prototype).

However I don't know about snes animation limits at all.

I noticed a minor regression. Color updates are not immediately visible on track objects and item icons since version 2.8. This has been fixed and will be in 2.8.1.

If you see any more bugs or regressions, let me know.

Good to see you back here Stifu! I didn't know whether you'd left board2 or just went for a little while.

Well, I simply had nothing to post.

Anyway, I'm done updating the Overview page. Hopefully it's a bit more useful now.

I didn't see the old Overview but this one is pretty helpful

I'll go and make something later using it and see if I can mention any bugs in the code, if I can I'll update this post.

Basically, the old Overview stopped at the AI part (and the AI part didn't mention item probabilities).

I guess I'll release the next version in November or December, and fix or tweak stuff that gets reported by users until then.

I might have missed something but can you zoom in on tiles so you can see them easier?

I was going to make a Ribbon Road port but couldn't find all the tiles I wanted to use because they are so small in the box.

Just a simple suggestion, nothing more.

You can only zoom in on the map road tiles (see Overview). But not on tilesets or background tiles.

Alright. It'll be difficult, but I'll have to try. (I could not even find the straight edge tiles, lol.)

But you can select tiles that are laid out on the map by right clicking them. So you should easily be able to find any of the original SMK tiles.

EE 2.8.1 is out.
It only fixes a single bug (rendering issue after changing object and item colors).

Is there any way to raise the character limits? I noticed that the existing character limits are quite low if your roster ends up averaging 7-8 characters/name.
Also, while I'm at it, is there a way to make Luigi not share his lower tiles with Mario?

It must be possible, but I don't think it has been done yet, so you're on your own.

Mattrizzle documented that. I added it in our doc here.

So, where would the additional tiles for Luigi go? As far as I can tell, there's no empty space nearby that I could put those tiles in.
And I can't seem to find where the standings/award ceremony/credits palettes (at least for the drivers) are located. Am I just missing something?
