I'm thinking of starting a MM5 hack that will be, as Plugsworth put it, "Mega Man Powered Down".

Basically the idea is to use Mega Man V as a base for an improved version of Mega Man.

Planned Features:
*All 8 bosses from powered up. (This will obviously take a large amount of ASM.)
*Stages ported from MM1 and MMPU.
*Stage graphics adapted from MMPU.
*Enemy hacking to include the enemies present in MM1 & MMPU (Heavy ASM, duh.)
*Weapon hacking as with enemy hacking. (See above.)
*Music ported from MM1. (or adapted from MMPU if possible.)
*Time Man & Oil Man themes adapted from MMPU.

It would be a huge project, but before I put any rel effort into it I'd like to see if there's any interest. =)

Of course there's interest. It sounds like it'd be a very cool project, but it's certainly a massive one, as well. Good luck.

I'd be looking forward to it, especially if a majority of the graphics were new, rather than recycled ones from the first (maybe look more like the PSP game?).

That is exactly my plan.

And thank you guys for responding. It will be a massive project. As far as the graphics and stage design I have it down. Eventually, I will definitely need help with ASM. But I'll get to that later on and hopefully learn more ASM along the way.

Right now I need an official title for the project. Any ideas?

The first obvious thing that comes to mind is just to call it: "Mega Man Powered Up" =)

looking forward to seeing your progress. MM5 is a perfect choice to use for such a massive project.

Doing things like coding new robot masters into Megaman 5 might be more meddlesome than you could imagine, especially if you're fairly new or completely new to ASM. You would probably need to spend major time on research to locate and understand data which is undocumented.

But really, best of luck. Just be prepared to be challenged.
The idea is great and i would love to see this.

How about "Mega Man Retro Powered"

Ah, man. You stole one of my future projects but oh well. I wasn't ready for it but you can have it now. Anyway I don't think Megaman 5 would be a choice though. Even though MM5 has Beat and MM4 has the Rush Marine, I would choose MM4 as one of my projects and code Beat with Assembly replacing the Wire weapon. Totally useless weapon.

Of course, I haven't seen any decent MM5 level hacks yet but I seen most vids via Nico Nico.

And if you play Rockman Megaworld (MM The Wily Wars) and use a weapon cheat where you use MM3 weapons in one of the MM1 or MM2 water levels, it would be totally helpful. I'm going to hack that game about 2010 or 2011 when I'm looking for data on my own.

Unless you're going to do the whole rom from scratch and code everything from every single Mega man engine. Then I love to play that type of game.

Best of luck of everything with your MM5 Project. Seems like a good idea. Anyway here's one of my own vids on Megaman 5 in Cut Man's level as an example.

EDIT: The other reason why Megaman 4 is better because of the Rush Coil. I don't like the modified one in Megaman 5.

I kinda like the 'Megaman Powered Down!' for a title :o

Lookin' forward to any progress--it's a nice idea, and it'll give me a chance to try the two new stages out.

I've wanted to do this for a long time, but it's such an in-depth thing, and I'm so far behind the times when it comes to hacking that I knew I'd never get around to doing it.

What I'd also love to see--perhaps even more--is someone using the robot masters, enemies and things from the horrible Mega Man PC/DOS games and hacking them into a legitimate, fun Mega Man game for the NES. Come on, somebody go for it!

Thanks a lot for all of the suggestions! =)

There is a remake of the game being worked on here:

@Insecduel:
Thanks for posting that vid! It's very inspirational!! =)

As for the title...
I like all the suggestions so I might just have to take a poll on it.

Look for updates in a new thread soon after the poll! =)

I'm sorry, but I don't really like the idea of this hack. I think one of the problems is that people try to take the easy way out. You're talking about taking everything in MM Powered Up, and putting it into MM5, thus creating an improved version of the original game.

1. There is the original Mega Man
2. There is Mega Man Remade from the Wily Wars
3. There is Mega Man Powered Up.

Really, there is no need for this hack at all. However, if you were to make an entirely new hack, something that is not a port or a remake, then you'd have my support. And I'm not trying to be a dick or anything. Not at all. I just think this is a waste of time when we have 3 alternatives to playing the first Mega Man game.

Please koala_knight work on this project! Frantik and Karatorian are working to port Super Mario Bros. Special on the NEC PC-8801 and porting it to the NES. You have my support for your hack. Good luck with it!
