My gift to all of you megaman hackers. I have ripped all the in-game tile sets for Megaman 9! Enjoy!

Before any moderators get on my case, or threaten to remove this, THIS IS NOT A REAL ROM! This is a fresh, newly made rom with no header info, no gameplay, no copyright infringments (ABOUT THE ROM I MADE FROM SCRACTH). All you get is a gray screen if you try to open this in an emulator. This file is only viewable in tile editing programs, such as TLP,
YY-CHR & Tile Molester. I chose this type of format due to the reasoning above. And it's newbie friendly, since alot of people have trouble with patching programs.

no copyright infringments.
When you think about it, it actually is.

Y'know, I could place a remark about OpenPoké being made from scratch yet infringing the very same copyrights. And then some. But that'd be nasty.

I think his point lies more in the ROM itself not constituting "pirated software" in the sense that gave rise to the "no ROM links" rule...

Anyway, how exactly did you go about ripping them? I wasn't aware the Wii or whatever console it runs on was emulatable yet... (capturing from digital video input?)

just trying to make this easy for people to use in future hacks that's all. i guess sprites.inc should take down everything they have ripped.

blackhole89 = over a sprites.inc, someone dumped the .WAD file and was able to decrypt all the files. they found 1 of the files that had all the sprites. So i took it upon myself to rip the levels, since no one had done so yet.

I think he looked and remade by hand.

Totally possible, I've done that with some things before.

EDIT: ninja'd I guess. ._.

Fuck all that, Inf. I'm just being a dick.

As for how it's done... I've been wondering the same thing and maybe somebody just dumped it, regardless of being emulatable.

I suppose it'd be a good start for when it is.

Edit: AHA! I -said- so! I SAID SO!

Anyway, let's cut it out with the temporal displacement edits, k?

heh np Kawa

the thing i tried doing was coming up with the correct palette for Galaxyman. I just stare at my hdtv, and then my pc monitor to try and match them. the palette I can't get correctly is the red backround in that level. i know how the green dot is faded in and out, i'm just messing up on the red colors, blah

I don't mean to sound rude but why is everyone started Megaman 9 hacking. It's just released. I've heard posts including moonspeaking posts about porting Megaman 9 into a real NES cartridge. Including playing it with the emulator. Even some other ROM-Hacker wants to do MM9 database.

What's more irratating, I saw a video on YouTube with Megaman 9 Mechanics in a Mega Man 4 hack. Plug Man and Concreate Man's level to be exact. I hope it don't make an official release anytime soon.

Well, thanks for relasing it but I won't use it on my current MM1 hack I'm working on. Maybe sometime in the future.

Yea the japanese rom hacking community is all over the case of mm9 hacking. This very thread got alot of attention last night from dozens of annoymous japanese people sometime after midnight or precisly after 14:15 PM saturday JST (2:15 their time) , i was watching the "online users" list for the board, and i saw many japan ip's reading this. And I'm absolutely 99% certain there came from 2ch even though there hasn't been any dicussion reguarding it exactly.

I actually have the ips patch of that mm4 hack with mm9 levels on it (it was done about a month and a half ago well before mm9 was released, i think the person was just taking his own guess at what the levels "would" look like) ..But i personally have not bothered to check it out cause i dont got a wii, 360 or ps3 yet and im staying away from mm9 until this christmas.

I hope Megaman 9 comes with it's own level editor like Megaman Powered Up for the PSP console. In fact not many ACTUAL wii games other than Smash Bros. has their own editors.

Remember how common it was with older NES games like Wrecking Crew, Nuts and Milk and Battle City? Those were the days |3

You do realize that Megaman 9 is already out, right? If there was an editor, I think we would have heard about it by now. (That is, unless its downloadable content that will be released later.)

Wasn't the 256 tile limit nor the 4-color limit breaken ? If so then the game *could* technically become a real NES game one day, assuming there is no limit breaking on sprites as well.

Why not name the file *.chr instead of naming it *.nes and made all a paragraph to explain this is not a ROM ? *.chr is commonly used for tile graphics related files I guess.

because i wasnt aware that tile editing programs could load .chr, nor did I ever think of renaming it that way.

I might be a taker, that sort of gave me a good idea for a MM2 hack that takes place in levels from different Mega Man games or something, it could be kind of a fun side project.
