Here it is! The ultimate Zelda II hack.

Last update: 10-10-08
Version: 1.4

Download 1
-or-
Download 2
-or-
Download 3

A lot of time and effort has gone into this, and not just from me
either! JaSp, Trax, Dwedit, Jigglysaint, Ice Ranger, optomon, and others,
have contributed as well. Thanks guys!

Video

-New Graphics
Everything has been changed in some way. There are lots of
custom GFX, but I've also left in old ones, too. So you will
see new and old stuff throughout.

-Magic
You don't need to Pause the Menu anymore to cast magic! Well,
you still have to push it to select which magic, but if you have
the Life spell out, just push select until you are healed! No
more hassle of: Pause, heal, pause, heal, pause, heal....etc.

-Dungeons
New Dungeon layouts! Mmm, delicious.

-New Beam
The reason I changed the Sword Beam is because the original one
just....sucked. Hehe. This time, having full health will feel
so rewarding!

-Enemy Count
In the pause menu is a new feature. If you look at the bottom
left of the menu, you will see two enemy Icons. The smaller one
represents Weak enemies, and the bigger one represents strong
enemies. Once you kill 10 of either one, you will get a prize!
Weak enemies usually drop weak potions or small Rupees and the
strong enemies drop strong potions or big rupees. Unfortunately
you can't tell the difference between rupees.

-Experience
I've completely re-done the experience system. It's still on
scale with the old one, it just seems less daunting. Maybe?

-Dialogue
All NPC's have more to say and they even talk faster now, too!
So if you are in town, say hello!

I've gotten stuck already. I just got the candle, and can't seem to find where to go from there.

Also, in the first palace, there is a section where the player can trap themselves, and the only way out is to jump down the pit...

Yeah I love this hack, a hack like this I'd recommend to play to anyone who's a NES addict like me. ^^'

Have you ever considered hacking Zelda 1?

Xeruss, I sent you a PM that will help you out.

I'm really glad you all like my hack, it makes me happy! I have started a Zelda 1 hack, a while ago, but quickly realized that
I was only interested in Zelda II hacking. One day though, when my skills are immense, I plan to make something intense!

I haven't even play any Zelda II hacks yet or the orginal game. I better give this one a shot. I do love Zelda games though.

I am not sure which Zelda II rom should I patch it with but I hope I don't have any bad Zelda II roms I have.

I based this hack off of the "Zelda 2 - The Adventure of Link (U)" ROM, so I would recommend that one.

I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes, but use it to be safe, I guess.

This game is TOUGH.

As a very seasoned Zelda 2 player, I personally like the challenge so far, but if I were somewhat new to Zelda 2 I'd likely be scared shitless of this game. A lot of situations involving enemies close to edges make it particularly aggravating.

This is a really well done hack, Ice Penguin. The graphics are amazing, and from what I've seen, your level design is quite ingenious. Although, too bad I suck at Zelda 2

Also, I have not found the candle yet, but I have made it to the first boss (haven't beat him though)

I've been playing this game for like 8 hours straight and am completely lost, I haven't even found level 2 yet. Ive looked EVERYWHERE. After the swamp, there are a lot of areas that are extremely difficult to get through and they take forever to get to. Theres one infamous area that just loops all over the place and leads you in circles I can't figure it out. One hint had me combing the swamp for a long time and I found nothing.

This game has been very stressful.

Oh, it's not -that- bad! I sent you a PM with help.

Thanks, Delmaru, for the comment! Let me know if you need any help or anything.

Edit: Optomon, which difficulty are you playing?

I think there should be more hints about some secrets, if not all of them. There are hidden areas for which you must almost comb the entire region. It can become tiresome after a while...

One thing you should keep in mind is that it's not as linear as the original Zelda II. You will have to go back and forth between key places...

just a heads up, i tried this out in mednafenx-nes for xbox and the game loads fine but when you leave the palace with the princess the screen starts blinking and everything turns into solid color blocks, im thinking maybe the timing is off for this game on the emu.

I can say that this does with fce-ultra for xbox just fine.

Once again, thanks ice-penguin!!

And now I have an excuse to download this.

*download*

EDIT: Oh, also, why do you use Jnes? It always locked up on me. Did they fix that in a newer version or something? :V

EDIT TWO: "I just caught a Lv.3 Jigglypuff!" Hahahahaha.
