I was going to post this on the Acmlm board 1 but they now have a stupid aproval thingy, so I came here.

plus a was called somthing;I shall not repeat.

Anyway, I was mucking around with the character selection code and one of the values 'EA' when changed to 00 it skips the name selection and sets the characters the default name of your character to NINTEN and the rival SONY.

Hah, I didn't know that. That is kind of cool. Generally this should go in to gaming though. They have an approval system for a reason.

This reminds me. I used to have a gameshark code that I made that allowed the player to walk through walls.

It's still ROM hacking, just a really small change that could probably be done using codes

Interesting character names, but then the game was originally made around the time Sony made the PlayStation (after the SNES CD thing between them didn't work out) ... weird thing though, I was able to find "NINTEN" and "SONY" just fine in the U/E version but not in the Japanese one

Wow, must be an easter egg put in by GameFreak, that probably wasn't discovered until now...

Congratulations on your discovery, FruityCactus!

Yeah, only, that doesn't happen nice try, though.

In fact, I can prove you're full of crap.

Tada. All the default names there are. Again, nice try, but you fail

Kei, he means the original Pokémon Red, not Fire Red.

......riiiight. Which I realized after the fact, so, you know, completely disregard that =| (my mind has been completely BURNED from hacking emerald non-stop)

Anyways, it isn't stored with the default names in the original red, which is really strange. Though to be honest, Gamefreak has a knack for leaving in strange things on the game (like the "If you like this game, buy it or die" anti-piracy message in LeafGreen )

Could I get a screenshot of that?

Don't forget the similarly crazy "BAD EGG" that I believe you have a chance to get if you use a GameShark...

Yeah, I remember "Bad EGG", I got it once while experimenting with Pokémon Ruby on an emulator...

Bad EGG was an awesome way to deter cheaters. And DD, I'll see what I can do about that screenshot. I might have to dump leaf green since I thought it was on this machine but I guess it isn't

I don't even knwo what it does other than take up space... and even then, couldn't you just gameshark it away?

It keeps you from catching wild pokemon I think. I beleive it turns them into badeggs. You can bypass this by giving the pokemon a nick name though. and retreiving it a PC.

That was the point. If you used a gameshark to hack up a custom Pokemon, you would recieve "BAD EGG" instead. Which just...was nothing particularly useful there's ways around it, but it was pretty tricky.

Actually, what address was it you changed? I'd like to try this too...

And, Keitaro: So that's really all it does is just give you that instead of what you hacked up? Odd... seems like it'd still be easy t get around, though.

It *IS* easy to get around the Bad EGG. Thing is, if you screw up even one section of code, you're likely to get it instead of the desired result. But as long as you know what you're doing, you'll have no problems.
