Tomorrow, 21/07/2008, “New Super Mario Bros. 3 Hack” will complete one year of development! It was one year of fully dedicated work. I am not a programmer, so, I am doing my best with the tools which I am using: SMB3 workshop (Thanks goes to Hukka), SMB3 TSA editor (Thanks goes to DahrkDaiz), YY-CHR (Thanks goes to Yy), SMB3Map (Thanks goes to Beneficii), and of course I would like to say thanks for Googie too, because he is a good beta tester, a great helper when I had trouble with hacking, and because he is a Stupend Friend! TOO, Thanks to God, because He developed everything!

How are going the progress?

-Many graphics-modified, mainly those of layouts.
-All Levels over the world 7 (except for flying ships that will be last things to be edited). Then, 58 levels were entire modified.
-The overworlds 1,2,3,4,5 & 6.

What I am going to do yet?

-Finish the worlds 7 and 8.
-Change more graphics.
-Change the flying ships levels.

What I would like to do but I am not sure if it will be possible:

-Add save feature.
-Add new musics.

OK, let’s see some screenshots?

The WIP of Title Screen:

This WIP overworld is from world 1:

Overworld 2 WIP:

Overwold 3 WIP:

Overworld 4 WIP:

Overworld 5 WIP:

Overworld 6 WIP:

The following screenshots are random parts of game. They will show part of art and layout progress:

I got to make the tiles grassy but less overgrassy than until, changing the bottom of level and adding some different background grass.

Some objects non used in the original games come to be used, those weird vines give same idea of climbing net from SMW, except the fact that Mario can’t jump here…

I have expanded the length of some levels, I just hope that it doesn’t make the ROM crash…

Searching for a good background model, even killing some aquatic plants:

I changed some character in order to make different possibilities of layouts and challenges, for example, the Murchers become “Angry Blocks”:

And finally, here is a little surprise! What is a New Super Mario Bros. without Bowser Jr. ? I just cut out BOOM-BOOM and adapted the Bower Jr.’s sprite from Mario Hops 3 on 3!

For Now, That’s it! Doesn’t matter the time delay, the development will continue!Thank you very much for those which have suported the project!

Well first I'd like to say your overworld layouts look great!

My only criticism would have to be some of the new graphics. Some of it seems really funky (the bushes in the first in-game shot and the angry blocks, for instance). Some of the other graphics, on the other hand, look fine--I like the somewhat abstract forms fading into the background in the underwater level, for instance.

And the one thing I'd recommend changing more than anything would be the blue floating platforms... they blend in with the sky a little too much. I'd say darken or lighten them a touch, or change to something other than blue altogether.

Regardless, looks like it's really shaping up into something good; keep us updated!

Now this looks really good. It seems you put a lot of thought in this. Proof that you don't need fancy ASM magic to do a good hack. Can't wait to try this out!

PSlugworth, thanks for your opinion, to me everything is always pending to change. Here is a gif of Angry block, I should have add more gifs. Its easier to show the complete work.

I know, It still strange, but when you play it apears to fit a lot in some levels.

DahrkDaiz, thank you for the help with your utilities, and thanks for you are creating Ultimate SMB3 editor, and everymore! I will do my best!

I think it would look better as a spiky ball or something similar.

I watched the videos you posted a few weeks ago and I really liked the level design. I haven't played any SMB3 hack yet, but I'm looking forward for this one. As for the title screen, although it's still a WIP, I think you need to make the "new", "3" and "hack" stand a bit more. Also, what's that "200%" next to "silas" ?

Silas--animated, it does look a lot better.

Hope I didn't come off as negative in my post earlier; your hack really does look cool! The level designs for the most part seem near-professional, and certainly original. I look forward to playing it!

Also, what's that "200%" next to "silas" ?
I thought that was a % at first too, but on closer inspection it's actually an X (like in Mega Man, "The year is 200X" thing).

boingboingsplat, I thought it was one of most compatible enemies in this case, because if you hit it with a koopa shell, or use you tail attack as tanooki mario for example, it turns into a normal block! A spike ball like ones of super mario land 2 or kirby, should be cool, but I already put them to replace the weid spiny cheep cheeps!

messiaen, Thank you so much for your support, I will do everything to don't disapoint you and the other ones which are looking for this hack!

PSlugworth, Nope, You didn't come off as negative, It is very good to see the people care about you are doing!

NightKev, it was 2007 until, later I changed to 2008, today I thought better and decided to put 200X because we never know exactly when it will be ready to release ^^'

This looks super awesome..! My only complaint is that it kind of looks like it reads 'Super New Mario Bros. 3"

Raccoon Sam, He, He... You were not the first one which say me that. I have tried make a title screen, similar at New Super Mario Bros., but there is some title limitations that I only will fix if I have its hexadecimal locations. If I don't get how to solve it, I will try some other title screen models .

Insectduel, Thank you so much! I will make the possible to be fast and efficient! Ah, I am looking for Mega Girl! Keep it up!

When I first saw the title screen, I started at the bottom, and saw the little 'X' in 200X. I was thinking something its design... then moved up and saw the word 'NEW.' Then the whole thing came into view, and for some odd reason, I laughed.

I'm lovin' how this looks. Lookin' forward to the release, as well as all progress ^^

Man, this looks fantastic!
The whole thing looks very nicely done (particularly those overworld pokeys).
I'm definitely looking forward to this release...

Just curious, have you ever released a demo of this? If not, what about releasing a 1 or 2 worlds demo?

This is coming along really good from what I last beta tested. I'm glad you're almost finished with this hack!

Trust me fellas, this SMB3 is hot. His level designs are a force to be reckon with.

I am needing some help here:

The red squares are the airship retreat points, But I don't know why, sometimes when Mario lose a life in the airship level, the airship goes where is the red triangle. I already looked to level map editor and I just do not get what the f*ck is going on.

[Edit] Thanks for everyone's help '¬¬ I already fix it...

Rise from your grave! This time there are no screens, there is just a video showing how the stages which was already showed are now - plus 2 not showed stages. At this case it is more to show the graphical changes.
The game itself is about 90% done. There are more than 90 new stages! I want to use every free space to add more!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzAI6ZfyuLg

Thanks specially to Quickcurly, Jasp, RetroRain, DahrkDaiz, Hukka (of course), Googie and MacBee. When I finish the hack I will make a better and bigger list of thanks.
