Hi!

I'm trying to edit Link's graphics with Hyrule Magic and Photoshop, but i don't know how to get in back in the rom without screwing up the colours. Can anyone help me?

Use Zcompress and the graphics editor of your choice.

i know that i have to use zcompress first to edit sprites but read my post. i haven't said that i wanted to edit all sprites - i said that i want to edit especially link's appearance.
the problem is that i don't know how i have to save it. everytime i put it back in hyrule magic the colours are f****d up.

Since you know about zcompress I'll give you benefit of the doubt that you know how to reinsert the graphics.
So then, for clarification, you are using an actual tile editor (YY-CHR, TLP, Tile Molester, etc...) correct? Or are you attempting to copy and paste from photoshop into the tile editor?

In this case i don't need a tile editor! You can copy Link's graphics out of the rom with Hyrule Magic. Then you can paste it in Photoshop, edit it, copy it and paste it back in the rom with HM.

Are you trying to use colors outside the provided palette?

If you're editing the sprites in Photoshop then it's pretty likely that it's just ignoring the palette layout. (Getting photoshop to respect a palettized image is like pulling teeth.) You may not be adding any new colors, but if the palette is in the wrong order when you reinsert the graphics then it will look jumbled in the game.

I recommend using a dedicated sprite editor for this job so it will observe and keep the proper palette. Have you tried the free edition of Graphics Gale?

.... Link's graphics aren't even compressed in the rom.

Depending on what format the exported graphics are saved as, I'd suggest Usenti. It was made to respect palettized images.
