After Insectduel provided me with a few links, I took the time to find as many Japanese hacks as the internet can offer. Of them are level hacks like Tower R E, or mod patches like auto scrolling and hammer throwing Mario. I provided mild descriptions for each file and hope the English community appreciates my efforts. If anyone is aware of a worthwhile hack not included, please inform with details.

Download

P.S. I'm going to try to put a few of the mod patches to SMAS as well. I'll share progress as I make it.

Sorry to bother, but you did download the instant kill block type 2 for the NES version right? Just to remind you for all people that actually missed or never saw the type 1 kill patch I made a long ago for SMAS is right here at RHDN. YES, the patch uses the x200 byte header or it will not work and MUST be the US version of Super Mario All-Stars .

Yeah, I was meant to create the type 2 that only allows to use the thorns only in Mushroom levels which is required to use for my SNES afterworld 8 hack I'm going to do in the future after HYD and Megaman.

My computer didn't work back then in 2007 so I can't really make anything.

EDIT: Please ignore the screenshot. I took it by accident after the kill block test while the edits still exists.

Hey. Thank you very much for these hacks. Many of them were very amusing, especially the ones with custom music. Keep up the search, because there's plenty more out there just waiting to be discovered.

And there is one other worthy hack I'd like to mention:.
Kamikaze Mario DX Plus

Congratulations. Your first post was already a three year bump.

Now look what you forced me to do.

Eh, I reckon it's not all that bad given that content was added.

Generally, you should pay attention to when a thread was last posted in to avoid utterly dead topics being necromanced up at the expense of more recent ones.

More on topic, it's indeed rather unusual to see something mostly associated with devoid of quality sprite hacks like a naked protagonist in what seems to be an intricate and high-quality hack. I'll give it a shot later.

Okay, I'll take that advice into consideration for next time so I can avoid bumping "dead" topics.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting Kamikaze Mario DX+ (or if I had mentioned it earlier, it's prequel, Kamikaze Mario Volume 4) to be so controversial due to Mario being naked from the waist down. Both hacks are quite interesting and have decent level design and custom graphics (aside from an abundance of traps and instant-death pits).

One reason why I'm into collecting and playing these Mario hacks (besides just playing them) is to record the custom/edited BGM heard in the hacks. It's part of a series I like to call "Mario Hack Series Recordings", and currently has music ripped from both Kamikaze titles, Extra Mario Bros. (an American hack), Paper Sai, Syugyou, Sakura, and Tower R E. I currently plan to rip the BGM from the below hacks once I'm able to find a download link for each one, obtain them, and get them to work.

*Elegance (雅趣)
*Paint Baggage (ぬるぽ)
*PaperMarioBros (Harder version of Paper Sai, with additional BGM)
*Oh Wait and Ikku (おーとまてぃっく)
*Susie Popai Boss
*Ninja Mario Sky (忍空マリオ)
*Mario Evolution True 2
*Final Total Length Devil/U.N. Owen Was Her (最終鬼畜全部縦)

The translations are rather off.

おーとまてぃっく = "Automatic"
ぬるぽ = "nullpo" (as in NullPointerException)
最終鬼畜全部縦 is more something like "Ultimate Brutal All-Vertical", probably some reference I don't get off the bat

SMB Medley, and the Wonder Mario Series (not complete, there is Wonder Mario 5 out there) are good japanese hacks. I found them while I was at ATA's website looking for Extra Mario Bros.

http://ipsredistributio.run.buttobi.net/ is the site I found them.

Thank you very much for the link. I was able to download a few hacks that were quite worth some time. Though the search still goes on...

I just now went back to find the links of some Japanese SMB hacking websites, so I'll post them here!

I tried the "Tetris Mario" hack, and early on in 1-1 there's a block wall that prevents any further access. Does anyone know if there is there any way to get around it, or if this is just a really short hack?

kinda glad to see this resurrected. I put a lot of work into it to see it die after one post. But I suppose that's the attitude with jSMB.

Does the zip have Extra super mario brothers?

It's one of the best SMB hacks out there IMO.

No, the link to the .zip file doesn't have EMB (Extra Mario Bros. abbrivated) but RHDN (ROMhacking dot net) still hosts the hack. Google Extra Mario Bros. and you'll see it hosted on RHDN.

I knew Mana's SMB1 hacks a long time ago. They aren't that good.
